Setting up CM6

Some have said that the stats are wiped anyways after flashing a new rom anyways, whether a full wipe or just a dalvik cache and cache wipe.

Really? Seems like I'm getting worse battery life after doing the full wipe. Should I do a full charge/wipe/then drop to zero?

About 1/10 times that I wake my phone up, the screen is very dim. I have to wake it a second time in order to bring it to its current brightness setting (45%). Im using the current stable. Is this a well known bug? Is this something that can be fixed? I'm thinking its a cm6 issue because its happened before without OCing or flashing separate kernels. And its never happened before flashing cm6.

This isn't exactly a life or death issue, just a very annoying one.

This happens every once in a while, hit the end button again to turn off then hit it again and turn the phone on again. Not much else you can do, lol;)

1. Do I need to flash a radio? Which is the safest and best to use with Sprint Hero?

2. If I want voicemail for my Sprint phone number, I have to use Sprint voicemail, right?

3. The gapps file in the first post contains a lot of apps, some of which I don't want. I assume flashing gapps mean all those apps will be installed.
Instead of doing that, can I just flash the market file, then launch market, download appbrain (which I use), and have appbrain restore all my apps, including the google apps? Or do I need to sign into google before restoring all these other apps?

Thanks! I flashed Fresh several months back, and in the meantime I forgot how to do all this stuff!

No, you don't need to flash the radio but it's pretty simple. Just flash from recovery. The radio is on the first page.

No, you don't have to use Sprint voicemail for your voicemail. You can also use google voice or you can try youmail.

So why do people flash the radio? What's the point?

Can I use google voice with my sprint phone number? I already use a google voice number with gvoice app on the phone.

Please see my prior post for question about gapps, thanks.

If your radio or baseband version ends in .27 then flashing the new radio to .29 should give you a better signal. I know have;)

I do not use a google voice phone number, I only use google voicemail. You will have to set up GV on the computer side of things.

If you flash the new market gapps, that's pretty much all the gapps have. Access to sign into your google account and access to the market. Everything else will need to be downloaded from the market, maps, gmail.... But you will need to flash the gapps to get access to the market and google account

I think I'll stick to sprint voicemail for my sprint phone number. Like I said, I already use a GV number with gvoice app, and I don't know if I can use multiple #s with the gvoice app.

OK, so New Market Gapps is the bare minimum. Gapps is the full google apps package, which is optional? So if I do New Market Gapps, sign into my google account, launch market, download appbrain, I should be able to install all the apps I used to have, correct?

I am not familiar with app brain as I use TB to backup my apps but to answer your question, yes. Flash the 'new market gapps', sign into google account, then you will have access to the android market

Since I'm going to switch to CM6, does it make sense to update the recovery rom? I think I'm on recovery 1.5.2.

The latest I can recall is 1.6.2, but that was months ago.

Either is fine but again, I've only used clockwork and I've never had any trouble, so.... if your not having any trouble with the recovery you have now, why change?

I was thinking CM6.1.0-RC1. Unless you think there is a more recent and equally suitable for daily use version?

I never had much luck with the stable/RC builds, they always seemed to have more bugs than the nightlies, imo;)

Since Cyanogen is now working on CM7, the nightly builds have stopped being built. IMO, JayBob's CM6.2 builds are more up to date with the latest merges for the Heroc. They also have the latest kernel from Deca in the rom. Look here [ROM] (31-DEC) FroYo 2.2 - CM6.2.0 Extremely Blue, BlackMod, Red, Purple, Vanilla - xda-developers If you are looking for the most up to date CM6 build, go with one of his.

But if you decide to flash the CM6.1 stable, flash Deca's kernel along with the rom and gapps;) Nandroid>wipe everything>Flash rom>Flash new market gapps>flash Deca's kernel> reboot

Here are Deca's kernels:
768 Kernel

691 Kernel

If your phone can't handle the 768 kernel, go with the 691 kernel

Ok I went from aosp 9.9.2 I believe. I loved it, decided to try CM6 well I have been using it for about a week now finally bugged enough about a few things found the thread biggest problem was performance well I downloaded setcpu seems better already but still one thing don't know if its all I'm my head or what, but I swear my battery takes longer to charge anyone else our am I just cracked? Btw this and the setting up aosp rom should be stickied for all the people new to roms and the like and maybe add a little section about kernels just my .00
