Setting up CM6

Have you tried reflashing the Rom and then restoring your backup, in the process clear data, cache and davlik then

using RC1 and my phone randomly reboots once a day or so, and boot-loops 3x before finally starting up... much more often than the 2 month old nightly I was running before that. Think I'll install the latest nightly... has anyone else had similar experiences with RC1?

Are there any kernels that anyone swears by? CM6 is nice, but all my ROMs (even CM6!) seem to get slow after a while... how can I avoid this without doing a full wipe?

Also -- last time I tried wiping Davlik Cache I got an error -- "Error: run deldalv via console!". maybe that is why it is slow... Just tried it again, same error message. How can I fix this?

Nope. I could try it. Why would this work? Does clearing the data also clear the cache? When I upgraded to CM6 RC1 from a nightly, It would not let me clear the cache then... so I don't see why it would let me know. But, I did not clear the data then... should have done a clean wipe then ??

If your having issues, I would reflash the ROM and then restore your back up

I never had much luck with the RC1, I would flash a newer nightly;)

I still believe the stock kernel is good, but if you happen to flash one of Deca's kernels, make sure you disable JIT in cyanogenmod settings. If JIT is unchecked, up your VM Heap to 24m. I would also wipe Davlik cache and then reboot phone.

You must be using RA recovery, this error happens and yes you wiped Davlik cache so don't worry about the error message

No need to do a full wipe when flashing a nightly over the RC1. Just make sure you wipe Davlik cache and cache( if you have that option, I believe androidtp said RA does not have the option of wiping cache).

I can't flash davlik cache - due to the error that I said above. But, I still can flash the ROM - .. I'll try making a backup, and flashing nightly, then reverting back to the backup -- and then maybe I will not get the error when flashing davlik, right?

Also, is clockworkmod (this is an RA - right?) worth installing? I have the 1.2 RA.

Okay, I got a quick question. I was just talking to someone about the CyanogenMod 6 ROM, and he told me that the Google Apps that you flash onto includes the stock Email Client app, but that it does not handle email attachments.

Is this true? I use email attachments all the time, so this is important to me. I know there are other email clients out there on the market, but I like using stock things usually. Please let me know.

I don't remember on CM6 but I can tell you I have no issues on AOSP V 0.9.7, if no one answers you I will flash the CM 6 back up I have and test it for to let you know

That guy was smoking something. Of course it can handle attachments! CM6 would not have upwards of 300,000 installs if that were the case.

Haha. Well, to be fair, he was talking about a Nexus One, but I do not see how that would be any different really.

When I heard what he said, my jaw dropped. I mean, attachment downloading is basic functionality that all email clients should have.

Okay, now the guy is saying, it cannot DOWNLOAD all email attachments. So he changed his story a bit.

Basically, he said you could not download 3GP videos or .apk files to your handset through the stock email client. Is this true?

Well again I can do so on my AOSP, have not tried on CM6, if no ones answers this I will restore my CM6 and let you know

Alright, thanks DonB. I appreciate your willingness to help with going to the trouble to flash a ROM if you had to. :D

I was always under the impression you could download anything in an attachment, but you would need a file explorer to run certain things. That includes .apk files.

That is correct I use App installer to install APK files I downloaded from a browser or email

If you are comfortable with what you have, stick with RA(amon does RA and koush does clockworkmod)

Tried what DonB said below. Still getting the same error when trying to wipe cache --

"Error: run deldalv via console!"

Is this a big problem if I can't wipe cache? How can I fix this? Can I still install a custom kernel if I can't wipe the cache?

I told you, when you wipe dalvik cache with RA, you will probably get an error. Don't worry, dalvik cache was wiped.

I know RA does not have the option to wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache before flashing the kernel

Ok. So the error is nothing to worry about at all? thanks.

Really DonB, are you serious?:confused:

145 is the nightly build, surprisingly it was built early today:D:D
