Setting up CM6

I just installed cm6. it is my first rom. just rooted yesterday. it was so easy with the help on here, thanks everyone. is there a way to put the apps I had downloaded from my stock phone onto this rom, or do I have to download them all from the market? I am also wondering if I try out new roms, will I have to download the apps on it again
thank you in advance.

You need to do Titanium Backup - before you root and Flash.
See DonB sig for Titanium Backup Video

Thanks for the link. What does each nightly do? Do you just flash and hope for the best or are the implemented changes? Please explain.

Thanks!

Like mcat said, updates and tweaks, some nightlies have bugs so be aware of that. Sounds like right now, there are significant changes going on with CM6. There's been some bugs out there, so be aware;)

So I'm going to install this for the first time today, using ROM Manager. My question is do I need to wipe the davlik and data before installing it with ROM Manager, or does that take care of it?

If you 'use' the rom manager application, I am not sure if it does wipe davlik cache or not. It will wipe data though. Just make sure you have the gapps.

I would recommend flashing a rom the manual way.

Press 'Reboot into Recovery'
Wipe data, wipe cache, go to advanced, press it, wipe davlik cache
Press the back button
Press 'Install zip sd card'
Go to the folder where the CM6 rom and the gapps are and install zip
Press and install CM6
'Install from sd card' find the gapps
Press and install gapps
Reboot phone

this is an apps to SD question. whenever I move and app to my SD, it's like its been uninstalled. so, can I only move apps that allow that option? and how do I know if it is allowed?

Which way are you moving them to the SD? I noticed a few different ways to do it and not sure which one works best.. as I've noticed problems as well.

Make sure settings are as follows:
CyanogenMod Settings- Application Settings-
Allow Application Moving- Checked
Install Location- External

First
Settings-Applications-Manage Applications-Select App and Move to SD Card

Second
Titanium Backup-Batch-Run Move user apps to SD card-Select App and Run the batch operation

When I do it as the first option the app still works but I loose my Widget and can't add them back to my home screen. Have to uninstall and reinstall. When I install an app they appear to be on the internal memory and not the SD Card. Anyone know where we are going wrong.

The second option just hangs and never completes.

I know that widgets are supposed to stay on the phone so you can still use them. I haven't tried using titanium, maybe that's an option. I've done it through the settings menu, but that's where my problems is. when I move the app, it's like it isn't even there anymore.

There is an App called SDMove on the market - It tells you the apps that can be moved and then moves them for you.

Is anybody else having problems with the lag of this ROM? I love this ROM when is not laggy or freezing up, but usually this only happens when I'm listening to music! I'm getting frustrated, cuz I can't listen to my music! >.<

But beware not too can be moved over, most do not allow

Try wiping davlik cache in recovery, should help

does anyone know how many downloads or installs of cm6 of all varieties and flavors there have been? I heard 250,000 a month ago...

I gave up on this ROM. I ended up uninstalling it because everytime I would play music on my phone, it would freeze up or get so freaking slow! :(. Now I'm using cSrOm 2.1.7 xD even though it's not Froyo anymore, but it's a lot faster! xD

The rom is not slow by any means, did you ever wipe davlik in recovery? Did you try setcpu or oc widget? Also, another piece of advice, try getting a solid gps lock with the places application. But if you already moved on, that's ok too:)

Yeah, I tried all that and it was overall smooth until I would turn play music on my phone, and yes, I moved on! xD. Btw, this might not be the right post to ask this question, but when you do a nandroid back up, does eveything in the phone gets back up, including what's in the external memory, or just the internal memory?

No biggie, seems all phones are different;)

Everything will be backed up using Clockworkmod recovery, internal and external. But since you are on 2.1 now, there isn't native apps 2 sd like the froyo roms have. You will have to set up apps 2 sd on your phone with the rom you have now;)

look here for apps 2 sd http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116

Andy,

I think you answered my question re: kernels in another thread, but I have another for you (or whoever). If the CM6 mod already has a kernel that can be overclocked, will it/can it go past 691? Also, what is the difference between 'CFS' and BFS'? I live in the Texas so anytime I see CFS I think of chicken fried steak. ;) LOL!

Depends on the phone, only way to know it to try it
