The BIG 2.1 Thread

yeah it's format DATA: format CACHE: format SYSTEM: should be quite obvious to linux geeks that format: isn't a system command.

Yeah I know but I was trying what CRPercodani and fadelight told me. Since I did it format DATA: then I guess the problem with lag lies somewhere else. Well I guess I'll keep messing with it and see if I can find anything.

just installed 2.1 on my droid.it is very fast and everything works.the live backgrounds are really cool. it is worth trying out .if you dont like it then you can go back to 2.0.1

yes it is available.go to www. droidforums.net it is under droid hacks.it will tell you step by step how to do it and all the downloads.

2.1 coming to droid in late january correct? ill wait for it. first i need to get the damn phone and stop worrying about whats gonna be hitting shelves in january :[

Is is weird that I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas when waiting for a software update for my Droid? And all you rooters have snooped the presents? I guess we'll see how Santa treats you next year eh? :)

My bad on that, I could have sworn it was format: DATA when I did it, oh well. Anyway are you using release 4 or 1? I think 1 is much more stable, you just have to add in the bug fixes manually. I have r1 posted back on page 7 I think.

Hey fellas. I've been reading a bit on 2.1, and I think I want to put it on my Droid. From what I've seen though, I haven't really been able to tell if you can use a Mac to root and flash to get to 2.1. Any help? I'd love to show the other employees at my Verizon store the new Android Hotness, lol.

I would also like to know this. Also, what is the fix for the keyboard backlight that CRPercodani mentioned?

I put 2.1 on my phone last night and am loving it so far. The only thing that I am having a problem with (or the biggest thing that I am having an issue with) is better cut. I saw that Fadelight has it working on 2.1 but I cannot change my icons. When I open better cut and click edit shortcut I get a message that it is "Unable to edit shortcuts for Android Home..." and then proceeds to talk about Open Home. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application but it is still not working.

Does anyone else have this issue and know a fix?

There is a fix for the keyboard backlight, Fadelight gave some really awesome instructions a few pages back on how to do it. I know this can all be done on a mac but I don't personally know how to, I have seen some people on alldroid.org mention it though, check there.

You don't click Edit Shortcut, you click New Shortcut, then choose activity if you want to select a App, after you choose one then click Change Icon and select From IconPack if you have one downloaded, then Create.

In short, fadelight and alldroid.com is the place to go for real information. CRPercodani is good for NUTHIN!!! :D

Yea cuz alldroid.com is the place to go hahaha. Joe, you got so excited at a chance to burn me you messed up, it's ok though I still respect you.

Fadelight and alldroid are the same information. Here is the breakdown:

Fadelight reads about it at alldroid.

Fadelight tries it.

Fadelight pees his pants from the excitement.

Fadelight posts here.

I don't care when it's coming, I just want to know if Jan. 22nd is FOR SURE 2.1! Tired of guessing!

I still doubt it VERY seriously. No doubt it will be on our phones by the end of the first half of 2010, but like I've said a hundred times before... 2.1 is one of their big selling points to the N1, which has a release date of Jan 5th.

If you look at their track record with phones and new operating systems, you will see that our phone was released nearly two months ago. One of its big selling points was Android 2.0, and those who were still running 1.6 are waiting for the "Big" upgrade to 2.0 still. What's more is the rumor that maybe they will be getting 2.1 instead, and the 2.0 update will never come to them.

Now, apply that same logic to us. Sure, it would be an amazing thing... but the release of 2.1 as an update less than 3 weeks after the N1 is released? See what I am saying?

And as an added cookie for the day... Root Explorer v2.5 is now available in the market. :D I couldn't be much more happy right now. I never realized how much I used that app until I couldn't anymore.

I need somebody with the 2.1 update installed on their DROID/Milestone to send me a PM. I need somebody to do a test.

A test? What kind of test? I can put one hand over my eye and stand on one leg for 30 seconds. :D

shoot me a PM. Although... if it would be beneficial to the community, I think it should stay right here in the thread. Just my two cents.

hmm... If it is "a penny for your thoughts", then why do I have to give my two cents anyway? I only gave one thought. Inflation.

PM sent.

I forgot to mention the fact that the current root exploit won't work when they do push the new update in late January whether it be 2.1 or just something minor. If anyone was following the old "possible root exploit" thread then you know they hadn't found any other way to root yet so it will most likely be a long wait before they do. If you never plan on rooting or don't want to flash custom ROM's then don't worry about it, but if you need root access for ANYTHING or want custom ROM's then I highly recommend rooting now and AT LEAST renaming otacerts.zip to otacerts.bak so you won't be forced to update and possibly lose root. Then you can wait for the official release of 2.1 and apply the update.zip like we did with 2.0.1.

I hadn't planned on rooting, but you make good point... this noob should probably be looking into this!
