Adobe Flash does not work on Ally with 2.2 due to hardware limitation

Adobe Flash is closed source. The only way for us to get flash is if Adobe decides to provide support. Which they WILL NOT do.

Is is however feasible that a port of Gnash (open source alternative) COULD be ported to android, but this is far beyond my means and Gnash doesn't do a very good job.

I mean, the developer of Gnash tried and says it is very much a hassle due to the lack of full C++ support on Android:

Jesus.

The only way we'll see Flash is if Adobe includes support for our processor, which is unlikely at this point. (A) we have a low-end processor, which probably wouldn't run it well, and Adobe doesn't want people thinking there's something wrong with Flash. (B) our processor isn't used in many devices, so the user-base is small enough that Adobe isn't worried about it.

We could get Flash if Adobe decides to support our processor in a future release. Not likely -- see above.

We could get Flash if Adobe releases the source. Not likely -- this is like hoping Microsoft will release the source to Windows. Or Adobe releasing the source to Photoshop. Etc.

Does this mean I can run Vista on an Ally???:D

I understand flash wont work. I understand that. Just wish everybody else would. For those people who dont know, u can download skyfire. Most flash videos still dont work but there are a few sites that do. The two i know of and use is southparkstudios.com and crackle.com. FLASH GAMES WILL NOT WORK. if anybody else knows of flash sites that are compatible please share. The video streaming works good for me on 2.2.1 Never worked well with 2.1 ?aybe we could start a skyfire website compatibility thread. Might ease the no flash 10.1 on android.

Did you test to see if the sites you know of didn't work without skyfire? If this really works when installed, then I'm sure other members would love this info. I would say, if you know that skyfire is what enables flash support on some sites, then you SHOULD start a thread on it. I will give this a try and research some sites. If they work I will post links in your thread.

it is WIDLEY Known that SKyfire enables the viewing of some flash content (They actually take the flash content, send it to their site, convert it to a viewable format)

Thats the whole point of the browser

Now that we're on froyo shouldnt we be able to get flash? How do we get it? I tried downloading it but couldnt get it to go. Any info? Thanks everyone!

<<<<<WARNING THIS IS A JOKE>>>>>

Will there be Adobe Flash for the Ally?

and for the record, i got flash running perfectly on my john deer :)

In all seriousness though, every serious web developer out there right now is taking the mobile app business with serious note and although flash will not be dead for a long long time, almost every new browser is coming out with support for HTML5 and once browsers fully support it, developers will use it. The leading indicator of this is the number of major porn houses that are dropping flash for HTML5. Why? So we can see porn on our mobile devices, but more importantly the Ipad. So let me illustrate why you think flash is so important by posing a few questions:

1. Do you really need to see porn everywhere you go?
2. What websites do you go to that use flash images, or even worse entire sites built in flash that are current with their content? Really entire sites built in flash are just annoying! All of my sites are in the process of being redesigned to support HTML5 and should be ready about the time Firefox 4 is lifted from beta to release.
3. Ok this is one that kinda sucks, as i do go to some sites that use some sort of chat that is based in flash, but do you really need 24/7 chat rooms. If the content developers are smart they will be adapting to the mobile market and dumping flash chat.
4. Flash Games? Ummm ok isnt that what we bought android phones for, so that we would have access to an app market that had 1000s of games?

So everyone please please please for the sake of the developers please stop asking for flash, we need to move on and start developing for a new era. I can remember a time when there was no such thing as an <img> tag, java was something you drank, and css was something you only had a wet dream about and woke up with morning wood as a result. Lets not forget all the other new nifty languages that have come out. Letting go of flash only helps promote new technologies. Instead of badgering the Devs here, LG, Verizon, or even Adobe for not providing our "entry level android phone" with flash, badger the developers of the sites you visit to bring them selves into 2011.

Holy shit I almost sounded like Steve Jobs there, but really JUST STOP ASKING FOR IT!!!

The exact issue here is that adobe builds flash player libs for android only for armv7 (a8 cortex ++) or armv7a (with neon support ex. snapdragon) instruction set. While libs built for armv5 or armv6(ally msm7627 & msm 7k series) will run on armv7 phones they are not backwards compatible. If an armv5 or armv6 or generic armeabi libflashplayer.so were to leak we may be able to rebuild the apk to use it.

Alright peeps, just wanted to remind you of the Site Rules/Guidelines. Please note that we do not discriminate a member that requires help. If you don't want to help, don't and move on to the next thread and let someone else help. If you do, please do so nicely. The main point of AndroidForums is to bring people with the same interest in Android and to help each other out. Searching is great, but for reasons that we might not know, a member might feel it's better to post the question. That's OK, there are no rules against that.

Also while the search feature on forums is great, and hopefully will be utilized - if someone comes here and asks a question, either answer it or don't. If you're going to suggest the search feature, be polite about it. Nothing irks me more than when I go to a forum, (and use the search!), then ask a question because I want some one on one with my problem, and get a simple "Use the search." reply. Suggesting it is encouraged, but don't withhold the answer because they don't.
Yes it gets annoying when there are a dozen threads asking about the same question. All you have to do is hit the !Report button and tell us what's the other thread(s). We will merge the threads if they are all similar or the same.

Update: I've merged a couple of the flash threads into one, if I'm missing any just report it. I've also changed the title and I will do a temporary sticky of this thread.

Cheers,

This might be widely known, but everyone does not know about this browser. Regardless, if you know about it or not, it was good info by fullhouse233.

if u want to watch videos u can use the appt skyfire browser i use it and it works like a champ since u cant use adobe

MSM7627, the same proccessor that palm put on pixi... not reliable to running flash application, even if it supports arm-v7 instructions, very slowwwwwww

The problem is that Flash is written specifically for a certain range of hardware and the Ally's processor isn't in that range of hardware. So it would be like trying to install Flash on a lawn mower. :) It just won't work.

FREAKING LOVE THIS COMMENT lol, flash on a lawn mower... how epic would that be!:D:D
