1) Monitor my logitech home security cameras using Microsoft Silver light (i am almost 100% sure this thing wont have silverlight). - this one I am positive of too because of the full desktop browsing sequence

2) Watch net flix streaming movies (android is still waiting for that).- Yes you can he said its full desktop browsing experience meaning flash which is what netflix uses for desktop streaming.

3)Rip DVDs to the desk top to side load them onto my phone or gtab (no DVD drive)-One word External DVD Drive, I have no cd drive on my netbook yet I have one of those and I can watch dvd's on my netbook

4) Play video games all the way up to the level of Doom3/UT3004/half Life 2/Left for dead. (even tegra II cant tackle those yet).-Maybe not the newest games but dual core 1 ghz can tackle some games.

5)Manage about 80Gs worth of storage for pictures/video and music.-They have already said you can plug in a harddrive and manage it. One of the hands on video the guy says you can plug in a one terabyte harddrive and make it into a true laptop

Silverlight is a specific media plug in. Will not work on adroid devices. Same as for netflix.

I assume you are saying the desktop browser bypasses these lock outs? If so...brilliant. I have never tried to run silver-light outside of explorer (assumed it would not work) Netflix wont even install on my non_pc devices. (Wont install on my android gtab, neither will silverlight (including dolphin, xscope, or vanilla browser).

I agree that we will just to wait and see.

Regarding the last two points you are now inferring one should ALSO carry an external dvd rom and hdd in the name of "convience"? That is a "self-defeating" argument if i have ever seen one. (Ie. No need to even offer a rebuttle, the argument does it for me).

Agreed, 101%. We hit up NYC about 2-3 times a year (just for fun), in fact, we were just talking about our spring trip tonight (it would be the first trip for our little Baby L).

It's one of only two cities we'd consider if we decided to move inland (I realize NYC and DC [our only two considerations] have coasts readily available, but it's not like our beaches).

Maybe so but the ones that come right to my email inbox directly from xbox live...pressing those particular links renders an error message that you do not have silver light....

Of course you can always hunt for something on youtube and do a search and find it.....but that doesnt help me when i get those emails and just want to press the d*m link and watch it already and then go about my day!

Yes Light web browsing..i mentioned that as a CAPABILITY of the laptop doc...not as something it CANT do. (you might have read wrong on that point).






Yes and no..the tablet doc would not be much use to someone who already had a tablet but a good tablet is at minimum $400. Realistically...a good tablet is going to be $650 and up..so.

If your "tablet dock" came in at $150 or less....then yes..i could see that being an attractive option.

This is true, that's why I'm getting rid of my iPad, lack of flash and other features. If I really need something more powerful then I could use the citrix receiver and connect to my windows PC.

What would (will?) be a Big Deal is when the docking station contains Word and Excel. Once that happens, why have a laptop, but until then, I can't see the combination replacing it.

It's not meant to replace your laptop, this has been said many times and by motorola reps at CES. Unless you are going to be doing some serious doc formatting and creation then google docs should be more than sufficient

On that point the dock works. You cant get full windows versions but you can get both full versions of Docs to go or office pro for $14.99 as android apps.

They should work on the laptop doc but if there were no way to utilize full size for viewing and editing id be an angry customer (i assume thats a given).

This will be the issue with some programs, will they optimize them for webtop use. To be honest there won't be many Android apps I'll run from the phone view in webtop but Docs to Go would be cool

Well this can be done with Google Docs although not as Robust as MS Office but I think it will suffice for light editing and creation.
