That video is awesome. One thing I've been thinking but I haven't seen mentioned is how will Froyo handle 1GB of RAM? I know that the Captivate has 512MB of RAM but with Eclair you can only use 256MB. Will we be able to use all the RAM that the Atrix has?
2.2/2.3 can't use dual core, but Moto, LG etc are using modified versions of Android to enable it. Such is the benefit of an open source OS. I assume Moto would not put 1GB of RAM in this without ensuring it will work.

I'm waiting to see if they have GPU hardware acceleration. This thing NEEDS to be as smooth as iOS on an iPhone 4 for it to become one of my personal phones.
The video looks awesome and I love the webtop app.![]()
One thing about the video that struck me...he didn't do anything with that lap top dock that i couldn't already do with my 3gs for the last two years. I mean, no offense but i have been able to look up and send restaurant info WHILE on the phone with the person for AGES...why the extra step of docking it for that?
No the real luxury of that dock would be for the extended battery life and watching movies from a larger screen while traveling and being able to use the key board to type in a forum (such as this) or send an email etc. Then again, if you already have a lap top or table with you......(someone help me here)...whats the point?
Nice being able to use that media doc to watch movies on a flat screen..that would come in REAL handy with netflix.....but then....android doesn't HAVE netflix...(doh..groan).
Ok then games....the tegra II is amazing for games (i should know..i have had one in my gtab now since the mid-december)....its very fast even on android 2.2 NOT optimized for tegra. But then they hamstring you in that area with the tiny 4inch display....
I just cant really figure this device out to tell the truth.
Will the lap top dock have mouse/ game controller hook ups for some psx emulation?
Then there is blur combined with the earlier posted comments about the locked bootloader.
I posted on XDA forums asking who might be getting this device as we LOVE the tegra II and was immediately shot to pieces with "not me/nope/not with a locked boot loader/ill wait/pass/no thanks" type remarks.. (back when i was so excited about the atrix).
That's what I mean im on XDA and its all the same response as you stated
I think you missed the point that the laptop dock is meant to be a replacement for like netbooks. It's a 11" screen so it fits into that category. It can replace a mobile laptop if you just do web surfing, note taking, and so forth. For example... it could replace my Macbook Air for school. I need to figure out everything that the laptop dock can do first before I decide to sell the MBA.

Ok the laptop dock can do things that a normal smartphone cant do. Like allow you to use full Firefox and still access all of the software features of your phone.
You have a point if you have a laptop with you this could be moot, but the idea is that you wouldn't need to carry a laptop with you any more, you could just grab the dock and be all set to go.
Android is getting Nextflix, I can't guarantee 100% that the Atrix will get it, since it's not out yet.
Ok, so you have had a Tergra2 chip in your tablet since December, that was only a month ago. Also yes the Atrix does only have a 4" screen, which isn't bad for something that is supposed to go in your pocket. But as you mentioned earlier, it plugs into a TV or an 11" netbook with a keyboard and trackpad, now you have something bigger to enjoy the Tegra 2 graphics on.
Actually even without a dock you can already use a Bluetooth mouse or a Wii-mote with Android.
You are absolutely right, the locked bootloader sucks, it sucks hardcore. But, the phone isn't out yet so we aren't positive the bootloader is going to be locked. Plus "locked" I'm sure is only temporary.
Good point. How is it going to be a better web browser than a fully functioning netbook again though?
Agreed but with a smiliar foot print and weight...why would you carry something...LESS functional then that netbook???
Cant wait! Hopefully it will just be an app to dl that would work on any android (with iphones its just an app).
My point was not that i have had it a long time. My point was that i can vouch for its speed. Agreed it might make for some fun light gaming that way.
Great news..coming from iphone you are pretty well walled off from this kind of thing (one of the reasons im leaving iphone).
This has NOT been the sentiment over at XDA, the sentiment has been that lots of the developers are passing on this and waiting for something more open to work with. Dont kill the messenger.
I was trying to envision how i might use this thing with the lap top port and the way i would use it has NOT even been mentioned yet.
Basically i would use it to work with video/music and email and other types of content that i would want to TAKE WITH ME on the phone..without the hassel of doing a synch/sideload/transfer to a PC..this is where i think the potential lies. Being able to surf the web with a larger screen seems kind of a non-point as if you wanted to CARRY the port with you..it would STILL have about the same foot print as just taking the netbook with you (no advantage here AT ALL). Even less advantage when you consider taking a tablet with you is 1) lighter b) a very nice web browsing experience indeed.

Wow! A critical post that isn't trolling or flaming? I must be on the wrong internet
Allenfx raises some very valid questions. While there's a huge "cool" factor to the notebook dock, I don't think it will appeal to most consumers. But I don't think it was intended to. I suspect that Motorola originally had a vision of the Atrix being a business phone. You see hints of that in the Airport security commercial, but for whatever reason, they've not yet really focused their marketing in that direction.
To really understand the point of the webtop+dock, note that in the CES presentation they showed how Firefox in the webtop could use Citrix to provide access to a full Windows desktop experience. Current server virtualization trends favor companies replacing desktops with nettops that provide little more than a web browser. To CIOs who currently need to provide employees with a phone and a PC/laptop that is only used to gain web access to the virtual corporate computing resources, Atrix plus dock could provide a lower cost solution. While this consolidation only slightly reduces acquisition cost (nettops/netbooks are dirt cheap), it cuts maintenance costs in half because IT only has to support one device instead of two.
But I'm not a CIO, so the Atrix has me really conflicted. While I love the idea of the docks, I can't see it replacing my Thinkpad, or my desktop, or my home theatre PC. And as a "pure" smartphone, I'm not sure how it will stack up.
