What features do you want on the Evo 2?

IMO this is a big thing that Apple does right. 12 month hardware upgrades seem to be the sweet spot. Sprint also allows for 12 month hardware upgrades, so it would be silly for them to release a direct successor to their EVO less than 12 months after the original was launched. I am less bummed that there is no new EVO, and more bummed at what a giant flop this supposedly exciting event turned out to be. I was hoping (but not expecting) for an EVO2 announcement. Instead what we got is a whole lot of nothing IMO.

Well, it is a kinda cool concept:

And it has a charger that houses a second battery that can either be used with the device or you can swap out the secondary battery

Sprint and Kyocera Announce Echo Dual Screen Smartphone for Spring | PhoneNews.com

Not enough for me to drop the EVO, but cool concept.

CTIA is another month and a half away (March 20something). So hopefully Sprint will announce the next EVO type device then.

I'm just wondering if I can wait three or four months of not having an Android and be okay with that. Don't want to lock in to a 2 year contract when really good new stuff should be on the way out.

The Evo Shift was a big disappointment, IMO, but we can't always get everything we want in life. :D

BTW, I'm really hoping that the Evo 2 is being secretly developed or something and that it's a little, not too much, smaller, but with better hardware. And hopefully, if they do make an Evo 2, a lot of good developers will get it, too.

I hope not, making the Evo smaller would be a step backwards, I am looking forward to a 4.5-5" screen!

I'd disagree on that one. The Shift is what it is. A speedy 3.6" slider for those that don't want to carry something the size of the Evo or Epic. Gotta have choice and the Shift is a nice little phone. A bit chunky for my tastes, but it's solid, runs quick, has a nice keyboard, and that's about it (well for me).

you might want to take a look.. at some info i learned to day about LTE and data control:

http://androidforums.com/sprint/272829-lte-vs-wimax-charges-control-data.html

LTE is a carrier's wet dream!
User's nightmare.
Ugh. I don't like that at all. My problem with Wimax though is that I can't really use it at all since I'm rarely outside and it doesn't work indoors for the most part. Maybe if they find some way around that I'd be happy to stick around but otherwise Wimax is useless to me.

well.. I totally agree.

but the next will be WiMax2... and I hope it might answer the penetration of buildings.

We just need the FCC, or Congress would be even better, to implement real net neutrality. Then we can start using the better technology without worrying about data filtering.

well.. I personally prefer that gov stay as much out of business as possible. and the market demand control what is successful.
of course the problem is public knowledge of what is real and what is hype.

it would be bad if the public buys into the big speed of LTE... and is stupid to the extra costly handcuffs that come with it!

The government can't stay out of the wireless industry. Without the government licensing certain spectrum to certain companies, there is no wireless industry.

Think of it like this- the government will prevent me from putting up a home made cell tower that totally interferes with Verizon's operation. In return, Verizon has to accept whatever regulation comes with that. They knew the rules before they started playing the game.

Besides, if the public decided LTE was a failure, then Verizon and AT&T would just buy Sprint and T-Mobile and there would be no other alternative to LTE.

i said.."stay as much out of business as possible"

and if they did try to buy out number 3 and 4 carriers... I think the GOV rules of monopoly would come back to play and stop them.. yes I do believe that are situations that the gov should get involved.

??? I have never had a problem using 4G indoors, at least in areas where it is available. Plus we have Clear for our office internet in a concrete tilt-wall building, both that and Sprint run just fine.

Wimax is fully rolled out in Baltimore and there is a tower right behind my house. Whenever I'm in Baltimore City it works great outside but is gone once I go indoors. At my house I can get a signal indoors but just barely.

Also I spent some time in DC where it was partially rolled out at the time and had the same problem. I don't think it's just me.

I see on the net talk about a new Evo. My upgrade came up on 2-1-11 and I desperately want an Evo. Anyone have a clue as to when and if there will be a new Evo2!!

most accurate: between beginning of year and end of year

most closer: between March and August.

best guess: june

What Dan said above is about right. I wouldn't use your upgrade until you see what is announced at MWC which is in March (I think?)
