Root Alpha Froyo from Punk Kaos

If you look close it says v5
True dat. Hmmm well I guess since we do have complete and full functional froyo there's no sense crying about the lack of CM6. As Im sure anyone who wants CM would rather have the 7 anyway. Would love to see Kaosinate v5 debut with most stuff working but likely it wont which is understandable. In all likelihood you wont see me off superclean froyo till something else is fully functional as well

yeah, im perfectly happy on SC froyo. Even happy on DJ05 if I had to be on that still. If anything, I just want to see what'll come out of it. =D

yeah i flashed it...neat for a few minutes but i guess because of all the debug stuff going on it...its not any better performing than one would expect

still nice to see what pk has been able to do :)

Can you speak to what does and doesnt work? The xda thread wasnt too clear

wifi, mms, sensors...wouldnt sync with my google account for contacts...and wasnt particularly fast
Yeah standard fair for an alpha release. But calls and sms alone probably make it a decent choice for a select few. This might be an option for me/us in March after a few revisions.

Would you say in present form its slower than eb01 froyo?

felt like it...but honestly i didnt play around with adw ex or spare parts to tune it....i just wanted to flash it...so i could see it for a bit....but for those with a hankerin for aosp...your still far better off with vanilla 2.2 from jt for awhile id think

Likely so for the time being at least. Does make me wonder, when we'll see a second incarnation of GB. Kaos looks to be the only game in town for awhile for GB

really gb does offer some nice improvements...but id take a mostly stable 2.2 (a few more fixes from jt and i think vanilla can be called that) over a wonky 2.3....i know a lot of people will stay on gb just because they want to say theyre on gb...but meh...not me

Yeah same boat Im in. I do like superclean but once the aosp is totally dialed in Im sure I'll move back. Too much of a BT addict to live without it. But yes 100% 2.2 > 50% 2.3

I really hope JT perseveres with Froyo, if he fixes BT I'm mostly set. Much rather that than two competing GB alphas.

But to be honest at this point JTs isn't any faster than TW imho. I'm running it out of principle :D

i cant speak for omj, (i will of course :o) but he seemed to indicate that in jt's latest commits a lot of debug stuff was removed.....and to me that indicates that the next version would line up to be a good deal faster :)

I suppose the real question is with jt only two fixes away from a stable aosp froyo what's next for the grand master

probably take a well needed break before source drops and he goes kernel crazy (and all the other kernel builders wait for his every commit :))

or he could follow suit on 2.3 as he did on 2.2.....pk delivers a few versions of 2.3 and then jt jumps in with a vanilla

jt = take a break :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm glad you guys are discussing this publicly. I'm really interested in hearing what you guys think about these releases. I'm also very curious what GB offers over Froyo and what JT's vanilla offers over say super clean.

I got 4440ms on sunspider with v5, for whatever that's worth. I'm not sure if sunspider can be "thrown off" the way benchmarks like quadrant can, but there it is. For comparison' sake I get ~5800-6500 on sunspider with various EB01 builds and browsers (voodoo), and I can recall getting ~11000 and ~15000 with superclean DJ05 vooodoo and stock DJ05 nonvoodoo, respectively.

At this point I mainly find v5 a nice resource to compare my WIP GB theme to the "real" thing. I know it's not quite AOSP, but close enough for my purposes. There are some things that you just absolutely cannot find pictures or videos of on the internet (nobody ever test drives the dialer! :p )

Installed v5 on mine, loving it so far. Ya I have all the same issues listed, but my Fascinate is my VZW business line so it's all good. ...I have another phone to fall back on any how. :-P
