So does this mean we are good now, or do I need to download and reload 1.5? As I really like it. I downloaded it Saturday.

ok im still not understanding two things after his apology though.... 1 why did it happen to everyone tonight? 2 if it was only supposed to google the liberty 1.5 awesome.... whats with everything else in the script that he didnt explain? 3 why did this only happen to some peoples phones running liberty and not everyones phone running liberty?

glad I am not one of those phones :p

and did every one really happen today?

yeah I didnt see anyone say anything about it happening to them any other time.

as much as I liked liberty (it really is a great and extremely fast rom) I dont think I will be going back to it... im good with apex until I get my Tbolt

It sounds like he is saying it had something to do with an update that he had up for about an hour. He has taken it down now. Check the link i posted and you will read his post.

yeah I just finished reading his explanation... while the explanation is appreciated I still dont see myself going back to liberty... kinda just puts a sour taste in your mouth ya know? kinda like moto changing keys so people couldnt flash back to older versions... and I wont be buying moto anymore... same kinda idea... but thats just my opinion which are like a**holes, they all stink

He was just showing someone how the script could work to call another file or script. it has been removed from the server. it was only up for one hour today. at the top of the script you can see it call for the url http://www.froyoroms.com/files/developers/jrummy/JRummy/testing/kangtest
i am sure this is where the removed file was. this script runs on startup so if the modified file was up when some of you rebooted this is why it happened.

it is fixed now. he apologized and explained what happened.

The other stuff in the libgnakfoorp.so never got exucted today. I hope someone that understands the code can read over loadpreinstalls.sh, test.liberty_script and libgnakfoorp.so to confirm what I'm saying.

loadpreinstall.sh downloaded test.liberty_script that got downloaded for anyone who rebooted within the hour or so that the script was on the server

loadpreinstalls.sh executed test.liberty_script. This was the contents of test.liberty_script:

. /system/lib/libgnakfoorp.so
googleIt Liberty 1.5 Awesome

the first line imports everything from that file. Note that importing it DOES NOT run anything in the script. then googleIt is a function in the script that googled Liberty 1.5 Awesome. libgnakfoorp.so only gets run if a person opens the rom and removes system files to take away credit of who made the rom. No normal user would ever do this or know about it and libgnakfoorp.so never gets run.. It was only used today to show my buddy Jake how things work and was never meant for anyone else. If anyone has any questions I'm free to answer any. I want to be open about anything.

So you used it today to show your friend and it somehow triggered it to happen on other people's devices? I don't get that part...

Thanks for the explanation jrummy. Cheers for coming here to post this. It did not effect my phone but I deleted the file nonetheless.

it affected those who rebooted their phone during the hour the test file was on the server. if i am correct the script runs at startup to check if the rom is genuine. Jrummy tweaked the test file so other were affected unintentionally today.

Ahhhh, I see! Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense. Still pretty scary though!

Just delete the file and you have no worries. jrummy is a standup guy he would not do anything to jeopardize his android relationship or android market relationship. as soon as he caught wind of people being affected he came forward and apologized for his unintentional mistake.

He is right. Jrummy has done so much work like overclock, liberty and some stuff for droid-life that I am sure he is not trying to kill his legacy.

Yeah. I'm actually not even running Liberty, I've just been interested in the whole issue.

I appreciate the response on here. And I don't think anyone else needs to run it or test it. I think people believe you enough to respect your answers. There was just A LOT of unanswered questions. And keljars response of don't know don't care really came off as arrogant. As I said in an earlier post, if he'd just said im busy now but ill look into it" that would have been a different story as well. But that's not YOUR issue or responsibility, that was on him. As I said I appreciate your responses and explanations. Hell, even admitting your mistake and apologizing for it speaks a lot.
Sorry I kinda flipped earlier in the post, I was just really pisses when I lost use of my phone for a while when I really needed it.

this happened to me before on the 2nd X i had in my possession. I was seriously confused and slightly mad after it googled Liberty 1.5 awesome. I actually SBF'd back to stock thinking the flash got messed up. Seriously not funny.

After seeing this thread I almost went to the Comparison I just made and was gonna add a note about malicious intent on the part of the Liberty Team, but thanks to Jrummy and Kejar clearing things up, I don't think it needs to be mentioned.

All I have to say is be careful with flashing, and ALWAYS HAVE BACKUPS
and to the devs, make sure to clean up any messes

let's not forget we install these roms bc we want to not because they told us and always they are not responsible for breaking our phones.

That's how i see it :d

let me get this right;

- a guy who knows a ton about this stuff accidentally sets off a hidden code in one of his roms while showing his buddy about it....as though he had no clue this could possibly occur?

- the other developer could give a rats ass?

- my phone is checking in on boot up to "verify the legitimacy" of open source software?

did i miss anything here?

I was talking to Jake (the dude that has the thread on sysctl.conf stuff in the forum) about scripting and I was showing him different things. I told him that I setup a program within liberty that can install an app or run a script for update purposes and I wanted to show him how it was done. I wrote a script that only gets executed once that googles Liberty 1.5 awesome and was going to ask him to reboot so he can see how it works. I got caught up with something else and forgot that I uploaded the script. The script is now deleted and it won't google liberty 1.5 awesome anymore." - quoted from other thread.
