Still hasn't happened, and my screen is set to lock 30 seconds. I've unlocked now hundreds of times.
I guess some people just aren't that careful. I have a swipe pattern that directs my finger away from the call button, and I just pay a little bit of attention when swiping.
I have nothing to apologize for. I'm sorry if others are finding it too easy, but from what I see, it's not hard to avoid doing if you're just a little diligent.

So yes, in my case it was/is due to not paying total attention to the task of unlocking my phone (but, in the past I've never had to be totally attentive to this otherwise trivial task).
Edit: Lol.. as for the previous post.. I DID hit that when unlocking. Also I have hit it when just walking around, etc.

This sounds like a phone defect, where it dials 911 without you hitting the required "End" and "Menu" buttons. Either that or you're accidentally bumping the end buttom and then somehow your leg / skin is touching/rubbing the menu button area and then the 911 area. Each time I put my phone in my pocket, I press End to lock the screen, and then grasp it with my index finger and thumb on the sides and slide it into my pocket with the screen facing my leg. When I grab the phone, I use my index finger and thumb on the sides of the phone and pull it straight out without touching the screen. Twice I have pulled the phone out of my pocket (not touching the screen), and it was in the middle of dialing 911.
It's not a case of people not being careful. No one is accidently pressing the emergency call button when swiping the unlock pattern.
I do swipe the bottom row, but in a way that the finger doesn't end up going towards the 911 call area.Of course you don't really have to apologize (should have put a wink or smile in the post). It's interesting that you haven't hit the emergency button yet. Maybe you have tiny appendages?
One thing that has helped me is to change my unlock pattern. I no longer swipe on the bottom row at all. It's been a week since I made that change and no 911 calls.
With my old unlock pattern I'd hit the emergency button while checking my emails immediately after waking up, or when multi-tasking. So yes, in my case it was/is due to not paying total attention to the task of unlocking my phone (but, in the past I've never had to be totally attentive to this otherwise trivial task).

So, I just found something for those of us who are having issues with this.
It may be a bit drastic, and definitely (and I mean definitely) not for everyone. Also one major caveat, I have only found a way to do it on the droid which has 2.0 (we have 1.5). There has to be a way to do this on the moment, I
You should change your method so the screen faces away from your leg. Since it is a capacitive screen, your leg through the pocket material can activate the screen. The more I think about this, the more likely that it is you're accidentally activating the phone by carrying it this way.
The fact that you have to actually depress the red "end" call button to even bring the screen back awake is what floors me. How is that getting clicked while in your pants? Or in any other form?
, I think I'm ok with not locking it.It will happen and.. when it does (if it hasn

I just got off the phone after a 30 minute conversation with my sister, and I had a huge text message that I had created with my face! Most of the time the screen locks when I'm talking on it due to the proximity sensor...weird! Maybe I do have a defective phone after all...

Dialing 911 with the emergency button should require a gesture, like having to slide the button up/down/left/right or maybe making a circle. Would stop the pocket dials.
After a few seconds, I responded yes. She chuckled & told me to try "to keep my phone from panicking for no reason"

Geesh, i went ahead and tried the screen lock and you all must have freaky huge fingers in order to hit that. Its at LEAST 1/2" away from the menu button. Not only that, its dumb to have to do that much work to use the phone. But then i guess im the only person who never loses his phone, or has to worry about anyone other than my wife having access to my phone....?
