Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

Hi again YouTu,

I just realised I made a mistake - camera + power on puts it into fastboot mode, where it just goes blank and sits there.

The restore key sequence is home + power on. Sorry about that.

Good Luck, Robert

I am running 2.3 and have just installed setCPU. It does not seem to successfully obtain root. The error message says that there may be problems with the permissions on the file system. Has anyone had this type problem?

Thanks, Robert

i have reflashed the phone again, and make sure i installed the clokwork mod, and still nothing comes up, how long does it take to show the recovery mode?

and just make sure im using the right combination of buttons, it's camera+power on, or camera+volume down+power on?

No, camera + power on puts the phone in fastboot mode, which will display a blank screen. To get to recovery mode you have to hold the 'Home' button on power up

Thanks for your support with this thread. I just updated from 2.2 to 2.3 and am very happy with the setup. On my phone the camera button now works properly (it did not work in 2.2), but a couple of apps do not work in 2.3.

I found the instructions very clear but suggest you clarify the procedure around step3x. After the phone has rebooted you need to reinsert the SD card.

I found that step 3x a, b and c did not work for me. I got a message after each adb command that the device was not found. I assume it was a driver thing? The phone was offering me to become a mass storage device, so I just used windows explorer to copy the 3 files onto the sdcard.

step 3xi worked ok.

I had a very slight proble on my phone with step 3xii. I found I could not paste the file into the system directory the first time. My phone complained that the directory was mounted as read only. I needed to press the button to mount the directory as R/W before I pressed the paste button. Not a big problem, but I wanted to write it here in case it helps someone install the patches for the camera, mic and I expect keyboard bugs, etc.

I found a note in the readme file that explained that the android native wifi tether did not work and suggested that "wireless tether" should be used from the market. I have downloaded "wireless tether for root" and find that it works really well.

I am yet to use setcpu.

I have a couple of questions:

I was attracted to 2.3 because of the good things I read about the navigation software. Now I am not sure what I need to download to get it running. Can someone please make a suggestion?

Also, skype seems to not be working? Has anyone noticed that? I used "Mybackup for root" and have not gone back to the market for the app.

Thanks again for all the support. I am another really happy user.

Bye for now, Robert

Step 3x says to put the phone into debugging mode by going to Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging did you do that, then do the adb commands?

To get the navigation software just download Google Maps from the Market.

Not sure about Skype, I don't really use it on my phone..

No problem! :D

Hmm, I haven't had this problem.. Is Superuser installed on the phone?

Well i give up, it won't do anything, it just vibrates and nothing comes up. Btw, why there's. No logos at all?

dudeman, after kdz updatin, my 540 stucked on android logo. thats it!
ANDROID,ANDROID,ANDROID................

If you take out the battery and switch it off, put the phone in fastboot mode; hold camera whilst switching on, and it should go into fastboot mode (display a blank screen after the LG logo for a few seconds) then flash CM :D

Heh, i already flashed the phone 2 times and the logos never showed up ,ocasionally the cyanogen logo appears, but no LG or Android logo.

Oh, that's really weird :p the Android logo won't show up anymore, that's been replaced with the CM logo, but the LG logo should show :S

yes, i have , but i don't know about using swap, to me it didn't improve performance at all, and it degrades the sd card life and since our phone is low on RAM , it will be swapping too much

even when swapper2 says it can't create the swap file , it is using it, this can be checked in setcpu

doesn't swap help to play games like dungeon defenders and such?

Hi guys,

Ok i've updated my phone to 2.3 and it works brilliantly, but when updating my brothers it installs fine but when you boot it, it takes like five minutes for the lights to come on the buttons and the it just has a bright screen for a couple minutes and then the phone is up and running but no lg logo or boot animation in between also it wont boot in to recovery jus a black screen im really lost with this please help.

cheers Lee

has anyone gotten swap working?

Yesu just haveto folow the instructions on Dudeman Post,i tried to makeit as clear as possible, been using swap for 2 months now, in the begginning i didnt really know if i had to create a dif partition on sd and put the swap in there, then i figured with CY 6 release i didnt need partitions, altho now that u dont need ur sd with 3 dif partitions, ur sd life its not so short anymore, as i said i been using it for 3 months, been ableto play some hd games and others not hd but that require 512 ram

but yes create sd backups on ur computer, in case u have to format it

been using mine for 2 months now without having to format it

I watched the YouTube video that shows how you did it, but still setcpu, doesn't show the swap being used
