Release date ? (BBY Xoom page active as of 2/20)

Well it isn't like it's $200 dollars or something. I doubt that most stores will get more than a handful (5 or so maybe as many as 10) and I doubt they will run out in the first week. I remember reading that Motorola only ordered 800,000 units, when spread out across the whole country they go fast. I do think that the $800 price tag will keep a lot of would be buyers in the lurch, waiting on another Honeycomb tablet to come out, maybe the Lg G-Slate or the Toshiba Tab, or for a wifi only Xoom. You know what though, having the pre-order slip in my pocket makes me happy and damn the cost, it's already said and done, can't turn back now and you know what, I wouldn't even if I could. I'll just have to stay home the next couple of weeks till me bank account can cool off a bit and before you know it, I'm good to go again! I saw a picture of the box they come in, pretty lame but still gets my blood pumping!! :D

Yeah that G-Slate box is pretty weak as well. I don't know I just expected something cooler for the wrapper of the most awesome device ever created by human kind. I have CD's that have cooler covers than the Xoom. Oh well, it's not like I'm gonna be looking at the box very long, unlike that blue schmock wearing jack ass who maybe able to handle my xoom first but I'll get to open the box!! So help me god if I find fingerprints on it when I open it, I'll burn that Best Buy to the ground!!:mad:

You guys think moto will release launch numbers on units sold on the 24? Id really love to know how many they sell on launch day.

I see two outcomes for that: 1. They don't sell very many and don't tell any how little they actually moved, or 2. They sell a crapload of them, like to backorder status and that's all we'll hear for the next three weeks!
 
Got a call from Best Buy a few minutes ago to get my Xoom. I was #3 on the list, but he told me they have more preorders than units available. I dont know the exact number, but i know I will be getting mine Thursday! They also said they will have the accessories there to purchase.
 
Good to know. They haven't called me yet, but, I was 2nd on the list at my store so hopefully I won't have a problem, either. Interesting to hear that they have more pre-orders than available units. Those that didn't pre-order are probably out of luck at some of these stores.
 
I beleive pre orders get filled and then they also get "normal" stock on the product to sell on launch at first come first serve basis.
 
You could be right, but, what happens in the case when they don't have enough to fulfill all the pre-orders? Do they take some of the "normal" stock to cover them or do they make them wait?
 
My guess is no they dont. They will fill pre orders on next shipment probably. Since they already recived shipment it kinda messes up the whole pre order process. Typically pre orders are taken well in advance so that proper shipment can be met on both pre orders and general stock.
 
Yea, that does seem a little screwy. If they had already received shipment for the pre-orders, why sell more of them than they had? Seems like poor planning and a great way to p*ss off your customers.

I think I was second on the list at my BB, if they don't call me by Thursday morning I'll be sure to call them, if they don't have any I'll cancel the pre-order and go to a verizon store.

If I dojn't get a call tomorrow I'm going to be very unhappy. They wanted to schedule us before the store opens on Thursday if possible. And that'd work for me as I'd grab it on the way into work. (It's 3 miles from my office :D).
 
this is true. thats how i obtained the evo on launch day. was the first NOT on the list to get a regular stock evo. they had 3...

That's why I got there fairly early on Sunday to get a pre-order. I was a few minutes late getting there but with the price of the xoom I wasn't expecting them to go fast. I'm curious as to how many my store sold. I'll ask when I go in Thursday.

there was one guy in front of me, i got there about 20 mins after the store opened, i know we were the first two because the guy at bb mobile had no idea what we were talking about.

It was funny when I went. I got there about 10 minutes after they opened, stood in line at the mobile center. A bunch of people getting phones, fixing mifi devices, etc. No one there for the Xoom. Finally about 15 minutes later it was my turn and I asked the manager about the Xoom. He took me back to the Magnolia room to do the pre-order and he said that the person that had already been done that morning (uh, what??) was waiting at the door when the store opened and rushed in to get their pre-order. LOL! At least they knew what I was talking about there and didn't have any problems. I just hope we're able to go get them Thursday morning before they open.
 
i was the first as i was at the door when they opened up. bby employees were behind me.

also i know i was the first preorder because the bby rep had to get the key to the super secret cabinet that stored the pre order sheets and the secret recipe to coke. plus there was no one else behind me..

When i went the guy didnt even have the sheets, he had to go photocopy a whole bunch of them
