PC36IMG.zip - HBoot 0.97 - S/W 3.29 or Below, which is the link under unrooting, which goes to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=108Z9R8Y says the ZIP file is corrupt. Any other mirrors available?
Try this one. Some people have reported that this one doesn't work right, as hboot will see it, but never prompt to update. As such, before you copy it over, open it (don't unzip it, just open it) and delete the entire META-INF folder inside, then copy it over and try. I think that's what's causing the problem.

While familiar with all of this, I kept this guide handy to root my brand new Insurance Replacement HW003 EVO I just received tonight. It only took 10-15mins to receive S-Off.

It's the same, but a little easier. The difference is that you don't need to install any hboot drivers with a Mac. That's only on a PC. Otherwise, it's about the same.
It mentions it in Section 2 of the OPHelp??
i'm stuck on "Waiting for device".. i went through the "Installing Drivers" procedure flawlessly.. i enabled USB debugging.. it's on charge only.. i started the reflash_program then plugged my phone into the mini usb after the "Waiting for device" message appeared.. i even deleted the unrevoked3 file and downloaded it again.. no matter what i do, i never get passed the "Waiting for device"
as i'm typing this i realize i didn't do the download HTC SYNC, run it, delete it step.. could this be hanging me up?

Great walkthrough for using Unrevoked3. But I'm having an issue and not sure what to do now for fear of screwing something up.
In SECTION 2, STEP 6: let the rooting begin, unrevoked3 started and did it's thing and then said "Rebooting into recovery" and my phone rebooted into ClockworkMod Recovery v2.6.0.1
And it's stuck there. Unrevoked3 still says "Rebooting into recovery" and my evo is still in clockworkmod recovery. What am I suposed to do now? I have already clicked "reboot system now" in clockwork and my phone rebooted just fine but the Unrevoked3 on my computer hasn't changed. So I rebooted again back into recovery and still nothing. Am I missing something? Please can anyone help?

do you have s-off? at least you have a recovery. if you have s-off you are fully rooted and congrats!!!!!
I tried figuring that out thinking I could move on if it was off. But following the instructions to do that, I couldn't find "BOOTLOADER" anywhere...
"Move to BOOTLOADER by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button. The device will now boot into Recovery mode.

But I moved on anyways and all seems well. I can NAND backup and load roms, I'm currently using rom manager and running CyanogenMod. So it all seems good I guess. The only weird thing it is doing is when ever I exit out of recovery and reboot my phone, the screen goes all white and has random bars of color going left to right. Kinda like a scrambled tv screen. Then it boots like normal....
Any thoughts?
bootloader is the white screen where you select recovery to get to recovery. if that says s-off your good.
that is normal for recovery to do that when rebooting from recovery.
might i suggest that you not use rom manager. it is buggy and can cause a lot of headaches. i do everything manually from recovery.

My question is, it won't matter what computer I do it on right? Meaning I rooted mine on our home laptop, I can just root hers on that same laptop right? Just to be safe should I uninstall all the drivers and what not and start from scratch or can I just start in the middle of the process (drivers installed, etc) to root?

I recommend switching to Amon Ra. You can flash it in ROM Manager. Many of the devs that do custom ROMs recommend it and it's a much better recovery method (IMO, of course).
The only thing I didn't like about it was that I couldn't name the backup prior to backing, not a big deal because I just go into my nandroid folder via es file explorer and rename them after I make them.

You are good to go like you are. Just start it from the point after you installed the Drivers (as long as everything prior to the Driver installation is done as well) and Root her device.
Yeah that's kind of what I thought. Going to reacquaint myself with the guide again, been awhile since I rooted.
I rooted a while back using unrevoked 3. I needed to unroot because I kept having issues in the market ever since I started screwing around with Titanium Backup, and I tried a lot of other methods and none of them worked. SO I tried unrooting and got lost on Step 8. I did step 7 successfully and got it to finish the flash (where all the white letters are). I tried doing step 8 but it did a normal boot and loaded up to my homescreen. I tried it again by holding vol down + power, went to recovery, saw that S was on, did step 9, tried step 10 and step 11 but couldn't see any way to transfer the pc36img.zip to my SD card...do I have to do that in the normal boot/Sense homescreen?
Edit: I was in the clockwork recovery mod screen v2.5.0.1 and was able to connect my USB and transfer the pc36img.zip to my SD card, but now i don't know how to go back out and "turn off the USB in recovery".
I'm so confused. I think all I did was turn S on but I was never able to get unrooted. Can anyone help me? I am so confused. I will pay you $50 if you help me fix this. I'm so paranoid now, the whole reason I tried to unroot was because I couldn't download updates from the market and it was telling me that i had insufficient storage when I had plenty of storage. I read about how to fix this on many different forums and nothing worked and that's why i tried to unroot. Can someone please help me?
Edit 2: Could I just get the proper S off zip file and put that back on since that is the last thing I did and will that take me back to how I was before??
Edit 3: So as I was laying in bed and unable to sleep I decided to do the vol down + power button because I wanted to check something (don't remember what) and it started updating pc36img.zip. I let everything load and finish up, it asked to apply the update, vol up for yes and vol down for no, i selected yes and pressed vol up. It restarted and now I am seeing Amazon mp3 and all of the other bloatware. So I think that I somehow someway was able to get unrooted. check and see if you have s-off in hboot (power+vol down). also if you go to hboot and select recovery, you should get a red triangle and an exlamtion mark. if you get that you are unrooted.
Did you try to clear the cache/data from the market through TB and then get your updates? That worked for me. You shouldn't have to unroot just to get updates from the market.
Be sure to delete that pc36img.zip off of the root of your sd.

Dude, I tried EVERYTHING. Nothing seemed to work. I also read somewhere that if you sign out of Google Talk app and sign back in it fixes it, however when I tried opening the Talk app, it would close immediately (not force close, just go back to the homescreen). And I will delete the .zips off of my SD card. Thanks for reminding me.

I'd really just like a pure vanilla Android on my EVO, and unrevoked seems to be only a partial root because it still has Sense and the all of the Sprint bloatware apps. And what's the difference between unrevoked 3 and unrevoked forever? I've searched around for an answer on this, but it seems that no one truly knows. They've all just said they think it's this or that. Thanks again for the help you two! Appreciate it

Unrevoked is just the tool that gives you root access. It does give full and permanent root. You will not have to root this phone again. (well, its extremely unlikely, anyway!) You should now be able to flash any of many different roms. Look to the first post in this thread for a list of roms.
