[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

At one point someone from Verizon told me that they were going to have to open very box and reflash them. If this isvthevcase they couldvsimply add a different battery atvthat time.
I remember when Samsung put both a regular and an extended life battery in the box with the i760. I don't think HTC or Verizon is going to do this with the Bolt, but it was a interesting that Samsung did this. Samsung did a lot of things right with that phone, really well thought out from an ergonomic point of view.

With their claim of 500k new Verizon iPhone users and then the spike that will hit for the Bolt - I think they'd be doing you a favor NOT making this an OTA update - or maybe themselves. Can't see how that wouldn't be a bandwidth hog at the beginning, plus the unhappy few with the inevitable bad updates they'd have to face - or the confused who'd refuse the update and then complain anyway.

Seems like avoiding an initial OTA would be a cost-saver all around. Maybe.

Bandwidth required for OTA updates is a non-issue. OTA updates are rolled out in phases, never all at once.

@Magnus
Except if the phone needed to have one to sell it. If you had every one try to update on release day it could drag the network down.

@robrecht
I did not mean there would be two batteries in the box I meant they would swap the original for a stronger one.

I am hoping the new features include an official free hot spot (like the pre), ability to make phone calls while using 3g data (already mostly confirmed), and a slew of 4g/ltd markets enabled (especially my city). If the lte in salt lake is a go, i will happily forget all this release drama!

Hope they announce tomorrow and start presales. If not then we are looking into the fruit and ipad2 overshadowing things. Its bad enough they have that stupid thunderbolt tag o ther device that will confuse enough novices already.

I know. But it's a good idea to have two batteries. Most of the time, the smaller one is fine and it makes the phone easier to carry and use. But when you need more long-lasting power, you also have the extended life battery. I usually travel with 3 batteries. Have done so with my last 4 phones.

Im telling you guys I think its a copyright issue with the name and Apple's branding of the light peak port on their new macs.

But panda did say there were power management issues I believe.

It would be a trademark issue, not a copyright, and I even though I haven't seen the trademarks I can't see there being an overlap in the goods or services they cover.

I think the new specs are a bigger battery and GingerBread... :)

I say Gingerbread and Netflix.

Bigger battery would require repackaging and that costs $$. Wirefly had their unboxing of the TB in what looked like retail packaging and it was a 1400mAh battery. I don't think they're going to recall all the shipped units to replace the battery.

Unless they had no other choice.

WTH does Verizon also release phones on Thursdays? Whats so magical about a Thursday?

I say they release the thing ASAP and not wait for a mystical magical wonderful Thursday. If its a Tuesday are the heavens going to open and the Earth be flooded because the deeds of Verizon were evil?

Or they could just ship out additional batteries and give them to whoever buys a TB.

Let's run with that idea for a minute. Seido has a 1600mAh battery for sale. Let's assume that's the highest capacity battery you can get and not change the form factor. That's only a 14% increase in capacity. Let's also say that the rumors were true and the TB was draining a battery in 3 hours. With the increase in battery size, that would give you a whopping 25 extra minutes of usage over a 1400mAh battery. 3.5 hours is still not acceptable and when factoring in with the cost of a recall .... it just seems very unlikely.

That might be ... sign up for a TB, fill out this web form and we'll send you a new battery.

I'm not sure if that would hurt sales or not though. Some people might be scared off by the perception of "you need to carry around a second battery in order to get the phone to last all day".

Good point. They also could (doubt it) replace battery cover.

From what little information I have been bestowed with, the bigger battery theory is the most logical one. But I'm not confirming it ;)

So are you saying it's physicaly possible to put a larger battery with the same size deminsions, or ruin the looks of the device by adding a large protruding battery door? I would rather mintain the slimest look possible since the phone is already a little porky.

I meant ship out a larger capacity battery to stores and give them to customers at the point of purchase. I should've clarified a bit more, sorry.

Well they could just invert their marketing and include the 2750mah battery with the phone + extended cover then separately sell the small one with the slim cover as the lightweight package.

Has anyone heard any more unicorn fart references from bmx? I'm wondering what the next big release will be. I'm ready to heart a new unreleased phone.

Just carry an extra battery with you. Takes all of 15 seconds to swap batts.
Been doing that with every HTC phone I ever had. The devs at xda will have new roms and kernels to help batt function in no time.
