Root This Forum hasn't got much attention

With my other phones it seemed that there was plenty of people on here and plenty of discussions going on about different topics. Since I have got the Nexus S it doesn't seem to be that big on here. I have found myself going to XDA a lot more with this phone.

So who has this phone? Rooted or not? ROM?

Personally, I rooted the day I got it and I am on the CM7 nightlies :D
 
I have been trying to root my phone for a little while but I'm having trouble with my drivers.


I believe I know how to fix it, but I'm to lazy to do it right now. I have been looking into the 1.2 ghz teamwhiskey rom. I definitely want to overclock. But I'm pretty happy with stock.

Are the cm7 nightlies very stable? I really want to find some good roms for the nexus s.
 
I have been loving the nightlies. My wife won't let me root her phone so hers is stock. Honestly my phone on the nightlies is more stable than hers. I have nothing but good things to say about nightlies, other than updating every day I have to delete the same system apps (adw, news and weather, email, etc) every day. That really isn't a big deal for the improvements every day.
 
Yeah I used to have a lot of posts and discussions everyday, but that has slowed down to almost nothing since I got the Nexus S. I thought with it being the new developer phone that the forums would be loaded!
 
For me it's because rooting is still a bit of a bugger... I simply don't have time to sit down with all the different files and whatnot. Had a go last week and downloaded the large SDK, had to update Java to something else, still couldn't run that command line utility, winged about some dll missing.

Once upon a time I would have *loved* all that messing. Right now I just want an app that roots my phone with one finger press and a single reboot. Any idea when we might see something like this?

Saying that my main drive for rooting is to install the Ad Block app so that Angry Birds is once again playable! Alternative distros are only mildly interesting to me, very very rarely interesting enough for me to spend the time loading them on.

If I'm going to spend time rooting and imaging it will be to the fix the barely usable SGS I used to own that I've now (unfairly) given to the wife... man it blows. So tempted to just junk it and grab an iPhone for her.

I'm betting a one click root will come around soon enough. I mean they already have superboot for the Nexus S.

And just like you it took me a while to root it but I finally took the plunge.

I'm currently running the newest version of the Bionix ns rom with the 1.2 ghz trinity kernel. And let me say my phone is flying even more than before. Although after flashing this rom I finally got my first reboot.

there are unlock/root scripts out there, but lets not hope for one click root apps again, they just emphasize really nasty security leaks that a more malicious app could really really take advantage of. it would be better if those holes don't exist anymore. rooting should always involve active participation by the user.

I think the reason this forum is neglected is that the Nexus S is a Dev phone, and not heavily marketed to others as such the major users tend to BE dev's and stick to the more dev oriented forums (XDA for instance) just my theory.

Yeah I find lots of useful information on XDA (ROMs, kernels, themes, etc), just wish there was more on here as I miss posting so much on here.
 
when are they simply going to start selling handsets which are already "rooted"? Carrier and phone manufacture control over these devices is beyond ridiculous.

I am happy with my un-rooted "S" It has all the features I need, its fast, runs stable. I dont need to overclock my processor, improve battery or anything else... but It would be nice to have access to do these things out of the box without having to go through the hoops of rooting

Koush tweeted the other day that the new geeksphone is coming rooted with CWM already installed.

Specs are pretty low end, but when they have a good phone I will be really looking at this company's phones
