Root Another Root Loop problem.

I figured I would start my own thread, because the one I hijacked (only had 1 original post in it from months ago) wasn't getting any responses despite a few hundred views.

I rooted my DX last Tuesday and everything was going fine, I used the APEX 1.4.1 ROM, and overclocked it. I didn't care for the messaging system (lost my universal inbox) and couldn't go to my contact list from the text message screen. I downloaded HandCent this last Monday and liked it. Yesterday, my DX shut off while at work. I had to pull the battery to get it to star back up. I checked the weather on the way home and after that it shutdown again. I pulled the battery again and wouldn't do anything.

Now my Droid X won't do anything unless I have it on the charger (had 60% battery power when it shut off). However, even when I do have it on the charger, it goes straight to clockwork (which I think it is suppose to do). Sometimes when I select reboot, it will make it all the way up to the Apex start up but shuts off halfway through. That's as far as I can make it.

I did everything while rooting by RoOoLeR's guide and evben with some one on one help from him, so I do have the backups. I tried my most recent backup from clockwork and it gets a "MD5 mismatch." I tried the only other backup on there, and it went through the backup process but got to the APEX start up again and turned off again.

I've downloaded the Windows 32 bit Motorola Driver, RSD Lite 4.8 (wasn't sure if that's the one I needed but it downloaded instantly) and Android 2.2.1 System Version 2.3.340 Full (again not sure if that is the one I needed but I figured the full version was the best bet). I don't know if I need to SBF or not, and my battery only shows 60%, it's warns you not to try SBF if you have less than 80% battery power. I do have my original battery that I charged before putting it away.

What do I do guys/gals? I'll be going to work for about 3 hours in 15 minutes but will be free to hopefully to tackle this when I get back.

Sorry this is so long.

I would do as suggested above and stick the original battery in and see if that works although I doubt that's the issue ....try to take out your sd card and reboot as that may help if your sd card is corrupt ....also did you rename your backups? I ask because if you did and included a space in your rename it will cause a md5 mismatch error as the one your getting when you try to restore .....your md5 error leads me to believe a corrpt sd card as well .....what I would do is try to switch batt and take out sd and try ....if that does not work go into stock recovery and wipe data/ cache and see if that works or if you still can access clockworkmod recovery while plugged in just wipe data from there ....if none of the above work I would sbf before your battery drains .....they say to sbf around 80% to be safe and I suggest this as well but I have sbf on 40% and been fine although I don't recommend doing that lol ....another option for you in the event you have to sbf is you could download maderstcok zip on your computer ...then if you can access clockwork and your files while plugged in on your computer just drag and drop the zip on your x sd and go into clockworkmod and flash it

Did you rename your backups? If so make sure there are no spaces or"()" in the names. I was getting checksum erors also until I fixed the names.

Opps... sorry gmen didn't read all the way through your response.

OK, I tried the original battery and it got me almost through the APEX start up but then just started looping that, APEX after APEX coming up. I also took the sd card out but it still did the same thing. So it's still looping just at a different spot. As far as the renaming the backups, I did do that but I saw the part about spaces and made sure not to out those on the name.

I just wiped my data from clockwork. I have the little Jedi Android that comes up and cuts the apple in half with the lightsaber, after it shows that, the screen just does nothing, it's just blank. So after the data wipe, APEX doesn't even come up.

Ok I am sorry that none of those options worked,,,best bet would be to sbf,,,I'm sorry I'm in class and can't walk you through it but here are links to a guide and the sbf,,,,in the sbf link download from the mirror since the original link is dead
Sbf link:
Full 2.3.340 Official sbf

RSDlite is the installer for the SBF. Is doesn't get on your phone. Open RSDlite on your computer click on the browse button "..." and search for the sbf file. You need to connect your phone to your computer via USB cable. Boot your phone into Bootloader by holding down the volume down button, camera button and power button at the same time. Once in bootloader your RSDLite should find your phone. From there hit start and let it fly.

OK, is Bootloader the same thing as Clockwork Recover, because anytime I connect my phone to my computer, Clockwork comes up automatically, and my phone won't cut off unless I pull the battery. I can reboot and the screen goes blank but it's still on because I can see that it's backlit. So if Bootloader is Clockwork, then I'm good.

I can't do the holding down the volume down button, camera button and power button at the same time because my phone was already turned on automatically when I connected it with the USB.

No CWM and bootlaoder are different. I had the same problem. Try this: After you connect to the computer and the phone boots into CWM hold down the power button until it shuts off then immediately hold down the three appropriate buttons. you will get a flash on the screen, then let go of the buttons. It should say bootloader on thr screen. Little tricky.

No bootloader mode is different,,,,,before you connect your x go into boot loader mode by power x off then turn on by holding the volume down, power and home button ,,,,,youbshould see a black screen with white numbers and says boot loader numbers etc
Then hook your x up and proceed

gmen is it power, volume down and home button or power, volume down and camera button? I haven't SBF in so long I can't remember

OK, that worked, mostly, it didn't turn off but I'm in bootloader now.:o
I'm in the process, apparently, my situation was a little different than most because my phone won't power off if it was on the charger or connected to the computer.

Good be patient. Don't disconnect till you get success on your RSDLite program.

OK, that's really easy. It's just my phone wouldn't turn off at all if I had the cable hooked to anything. I was looking at Roooler's instructions too and I think the way they are set up (the look) was confusing to me. I'm setting my google account back up again.

So am I back with the factory ROM?
Should I go ahead and root now or are there other steps I should do first?

Anyway to know why my phone went into loop anyway?

You are on a stock rom ,back to out of the box, open the market and allow your apps to reinstall through the cloud( wifi on if possible)
Reroot and install bootstrap

Erase all backups on sd
Create a new one
Then flash your rom
As far as why this happened to be honest no clue ,,,that's why I had you go through my suggested steps earlier so I might troubleshoot it but the way your x was acting proved me wrong and to be honest I'm stumped but weird things happen from time to time

What is cloud, I saw that when I rooted but didn't make much sense then. I turned on wifi and go to the market, Piggly Wiggly or Food Lion? Just kidding. I went to the app market but it's just the market, ok, it's working when I select my apps, is that cloud, the my apps section?

Nice job gmen. another satidfied customer.
Satisfied with the help from you guys, not satisfied that my phone just pooped on me for whatever reason. I see why they call them smart phones, because if they screwed up on you, you better be smart in the IT department.

Wow, my contacts are gone.

So those backups I did when I rooted are of no use now. Is there a way I can get my contacts back?

Ok in short the cloud is a "place" that your user info through apps downloaded and stuff from the android market are stored ,,,,imagine a hardrive in space and you can't see it but you can access the info on it ,,,,I hope I'm clear in my explanation lol ,,,,there are a lot of other cloud based services out there like drop box ,,etc,,,google cloud storage for further understanding .....your apps should auto reinstall after you open the market the first time after a reset like you did,,,if they don't and your list is there in my apps just install them yourself but they should auto reinstall
