A key reason why iPhone, is so popular. It just works without issues. I would not buy an iPhone, but I do not mind messing with a device, either.

I prefer the relative freedom, since appreciate the extra function. Most consumers could care less- they just want the device to work well and last a day. iPhone does that- hate em' or not.

Thing is, what do folks expect with the TB?

4.3" LCD (nice one too)
4G with no 3G toggle
1ghz cpu
Whatever folks have running on the device

How does a 1400mah battery stand a chance???

about 25% loss per hour and some of it is because i use it... i get that, but isnt that what we bought these bad boys for, use?!?

i want to love this thing, but we started off on the wrong foot

Mine should be here in an hour and I will test it for 2 days or so until I know what is up. If it is too hard on the battery and if it has the same tin can sound and lousy reception the Inspire 4G I had on AT&T had I will send it back instead of my iPhone 4.

25% and hour seems really bad even for HTC, I don't think you are a noob but did you go through all of your settings and adjust them? Like I said when I get mine I will scope things out. You may actually have a defective device and or battery with those numbers. :eek:
 
The way I see it, we all want a smart phone with all the capabilities of a laptop and all the battery life of a feature phone. Last I checked, my laptop battery only gives me about 3-6 hours of juice (depending on what I am doing). If I'm asking my phone to do the same, why should I expect any different?

Having said that, I'm still watching to see how the battery life plays out for early adopters because I would really like to upgrade as well. Thanks for being my guinea pig(s)! ;)
 
I'm just saying make the battery bigger put a 1950 in there and if the phone is a little fatter who cares just make it last I don't want to think about oh do i need my charger while I'm out today that's all im saying goes for all android devices
 
other than looking at the battery percentage indicator, can people comment on how long the battery last until 15% battery? also, including how long the screen is on during that time will be great.

it is hard to judge true battery life by just looking at the first couple of percentages from 100%. lithium ion/lithium polymer batteries have quite a flat discharge curve. a 1 cell lithium ion battery has a nominal voltage of 3.7v. maximum voltage is 4.2v. that will decrease immediately to around 4.15-4.10v as soon as you take it off the charger. it will have a relatively sharp drop off to 4.0v which is about 85%. after that the battery voltage curve will be relatively flat until around the point it goes below 3.67v (about 14%) which will then have another steep drop all the way to 0%.

this relatively flat discharge curve of lithium chemistry batteries is why it is so hard to gauge real battery life without looking at the entire time the phone is off the charger.
 
I am at 25%, charged it full at 10 last night, unplugged, woke up at 84% at 7am, using on wifi most of the day, its 2:20 here now.

No not kidding if you checked out any of the reviews battery life was said to be bad in all of them. You cant expect with HTC to have good battery life with the stock battery I mean come on HTC phones always have terrible battery life. If it is unusable then return it and wait for another LTE phone that may have decent battery life.
 
redraider1 - thanks for the sound advice.... i shouldnt have to read snot. Verizon is the best for my dollar. this is their best phone (arguably). why should i have to pay $200-$300 and 1-2 years for a phone that lasts half a day??

get real bud. obviously i read that it wasnt good battery life, but as i stated, THIS BAD?!?

it was delayed a year or so (felt like) and i thought that this may have been corrected.

please refrain from commenting if your only solution is "you should have read more" "take it back" typa things.

perhaps you can be helpful???
 
I came over to this forum to see what Verizon has done pricing-wise for 4G, but after seeing this thread and so many of my OG Droid's fallen brethren, I had to comment. How on Earth did anyone with a low tolerance for battery life get this phone? I mean, come on. I've got two Incredibles on my plan, which I affectionately call the Droid Terribles. They're great phones, but man, the battery life is straight shyte.

So they took the DInc, beefed up some hardware, made the screen bigger, and gave it the soul-sucking power of LTE, but the truly innovative move, kept the same crap battery. Brilliant!

On the real, I'm sure it's a great phone and I bet it flies. I just wanted to troll some of my fellow OG Droid peoples who have moved on. I expect to be doing the same when the Bionic releases. May we meet again when the Droid 5 drops. "How many bloody Gs are there?"
 
Come on people...This isn't a thread to debate whether or not you want the phone, want to return the phone, etc.

OP looking for some advice relative to his less than stellar battery life.

Got Solutions? Got Suggestions? Having the same problems?...great, please comment. But HTC isn't looking at this thread to hire one of you as their next battery engineer...so we can end the "you should've read more", or "you should have expected this from HTC" comments.

On topic...

I'm at 79% battery life...been on wi-fi all day with only light usage of my phone (work sucks LOL). Been off the charger since 7am.

4G that hungry that it makes that big of a difference?

i am an OG D1 guy and will always be tinkering wif it! but that also means i am not an OG DInc. i had 0 clue the DInc had this problem and JUST learned what "bump charging" is...

Remember when Ben5 kept saying they addressed the battery life problem? I would like to know exactly what they addressed! Obviously not much.:confused:
 
reminds me of Radio Controlled cars. RTR kits come with a battery, but you never use the stock batteries. You buy aftermarket ones that 100% better. Didnt know this would happen in the phone world but it certainly looks like it.
 
Do you guys think that Gingerbread will improve battery life? I don't know a lot about Android devices, just what I've learned in the last few weeks from this forum. (which is probably a lot more than the average user)

you sure? title to op's thread is "About to return". doesn't seem like he's looking for advice. sound like he's made up his mind in less than 1 full day of use or asking for support. what kind of response should he expect? :\

biggest pieces of advice...use wifi when available and reduce sync frequency of any non-essential app. check battery status log for what's eating up battery.

op started the thread in a ready-shoot-aim manner of blaming the phone for bad battery life. i had an og droid and an incredible. in both cases battery life started off so-so and then improved due to learning how to manage app/syncing and also using wifi. getting a slim extended battery for my incredible also got me the last two hours of juice i needed.
 
Don't act like you don't miss your 256mb of RAM.

As it's already been rooted, it won't be long before they release the process for everyone. It's about the only thing that saved the DIncs on my plan. Underclocking the phone with the screen off is it's only saving grace until they create a 3G/4G toggle (which reminds me, doesn't the EVO have that?).

One other piece of advise that has always helped me with the Droid was keeping a close eye on which apps/widgets were running. For anyone that doesn't know press on Menu > Settings > Applications > Running Apps. Apps tend to start themselves unless you turn them off in their individual settings.
