"Must have" apps for the Thunderbolt

They need to get NFL Mobile on here ASAP, if I'd known it didn't work I wouldn't have bought this phone. That's a deal killer for me. My Incredible was just fine...

Ok, time for another Android Super-Newb question (sorry). I don't find simultaneous ring & vibrate for calls. I am using K-9 for email and that offers the ring & vibe option. Do I need an app to create better ringer profiles? Or, am I missing something in the phone native? If ringer profiles apps - which are best and why?

I am also just learning this too, so you are not alone! Go to: Menu > Settings > Sound. You'll see the Volume and the Vibrate segments. Just check the Vibrate segment (you toggle back and forth). For the Volume segment, you can move the bar to indicate how much volume yo want. You can also use it for notifications. I know vibrate and the ringtones work simultaneously b/c I programmed it that way on my phone. This is all native. Good luck!

I know I am a total neophyte and have much to learn, but I am totally sold on Amazon MP3 and their handy dandy new cloud.

I frequently buy music from them, since they can be surprisingly cheap. Now you get 5GB of cloud storage and all new purchases are stored free. heck they are even upping it to 20GB for a year if you make a purchase. So far, it's been super easy to work as well.

I know some folks might find the idea distasteful, but I am sold on it.

I am sold also. Been waiting for this since my OG Droid days. A "Dropbox" for my music!! No more Itunes slowing down my laptop!

Not sure if this is an app but Amazon cloud storage for Music should be high on your list. You get 5gb of free storeage but if you buy one MP3 album you get upgraded to 20gb for free. The best part is anything you buy from Amazon MP3 does not go against your 20gb of storage, it's automatically uploaded for free and you can get it starting today. Just saw this on Twitter.

Sorry for repeating from above, I guess we were typing these close together.

Very True I was up for Launcher pro all the time and I actually was in the market yesterday and gave go launcher a shot, told myself what the hell? I give other apps a try all the time why not do it for one that almost has 5 stars.

I am love with this launcher, I mean it feels like a whole new os. the swipe effects are smooth as butter. I got Go sms, Go weather(just damn Beautiful) and go launcher ex to all go along.

I might be second one to be hated, lol, but this launcher hands down beats any launcher on market right now. I am paid member of launcher pro bandwagon but I am not going back anytime soon.
I'm with you guys. Go Launcher is mega-sweet. The tabbed app drawer alone is killer.

Any good barcode reading apps? And by "good" I mean that don't lock up your phone?

Shopsavy has been working great for me. Haven't had it lock up my TB and I went through Safeway pretty much scanning all visible bar codes.

we need arrow keys on our keyboards because there's no other way to move back and forth, pointing doesn't work that well

Just FYI, you can press and hold on most editable text fields and you will get a little magnifying glass that zooms in on the text and shows you where the cursor is.

While I still find a need for the arrow keys as well, this feature does come in handy for me quite a bit.

Have you tried Shopper by Google or Shopsavy? Those seem to work nice.

Just downloaded Shopsavvy and it's just what I was looking for. Thanks for the heads up! I'll check out shopper by Google if ShopSavvy ever fails me, but thus far it's worked like a charm and it's good to see the items I have laying around the house with a barcode show the lowest prices where I purchased the items.

FWIW - I loaded this the other day and tried it and it worked great. Then, yesterday, I tried accessing app history to re-poll the internet pricing on items I had previously scanned. Got a popup saying could not access their servers and I should try turning off wifi and using my cellular internet connection. Only problem was that I have Wifi turned off. I tried several times with same results. I restarted the phone this morning and the app works again. I have no idea why this happened but I am an Android newb. Perhaps one of the Android vets will chime in and advise how to avoid this problem or how to fix if it happens again. Otherwise, app seems awesome.

I'm still an android newbie so thought I would share this with other newbies to the Thunderbolt and android world.

Tonight I was searching for a good radio app so I can listen to my favorite local FM and AM radio stations. I know most stick with MP3's, Pandora and many of the other music apps but I still like to listen to local radio. Especially AM sport talk and news.

Anyways, downloaded TuneIn Radio and its awesome. Gives me all of the local FM and AM stations I was looking for. And the best part is the reception is perfect. Not to mention showing the logo's from each station as well, nice touch.

So, forget about rigging the headphone jack to get the stock FM Radio to play on the Bolts speaker. No need for that or that stock FM Radio app.

Now I'll have to see how the battery does with this app running...

Amazon just added Cloud Music to Amazon MP3. Free 5gb of online storage. So far streaming works great, now I can get back about 3.5gb of space on my SD card.

Not only that but when you buy an MP3 they upgrade you to 20gb of storage for one year. At the end of the year you can choose to buy the 20gb plan (20.00 per year), or simply not do anything that let it expire.

Looks like the storage plans are running 1.00 per GB per year, and they offer up to 1,000gb plans (for 1,000.00 a year O.O), however if you need 1,000gb of cloud storage that doesn't seem to be too much to pay.

Pretty sure I will be keeping the 20gb plan, when it comes up next year. :)
