Anyone else not ROOTING on purpose?

My last phone, Droid Eris, I rooted that sucker pretty soon after ROOT was available. My reason for it was performance and wanted to lose all the bugs the stock ROM's had.

Now with the TB, I don't feel the need to really root. For me, everything works as it should and I definitly don't need to ROOT for a performance gain like I did for the Eris. The TB is plenty fast right now for my taste.

I will hold off on ROOT until maybe summer or towards fall when I get bored and feel the phone is "Older". Then I will want to install the latest Android OS and start messing with it in that way.

Anyone else with me on this? Or am I all alone here? :o

The only thing that would cause me to ROOT sooner is if the 2.3 update ROM HTC completely ruins this phone (More Bugs that it has now)
 
I won't be rooting, either. I'm please with the phone as is (other than the battery issues).

I loved my OG Droid, and I loved trying out different ROMs, but my TB is great the way it is, and from what I hear, htc is pretty good about updating.
 
The only reason I want to root right now is to remove all the preinstalled apps (bloatware). I'm really impressed with this phone so far.
 
I'm with you. I'll wait to root until there are good, stable ROMs out there - like xtrSense. If zachxtr cooks up a ROM... I'm all over it.
 
I am waiting for a simpler way to root. I just don't have the time to screw around with the SDK and abw etc etc/... It's running good the way it is with the exception of bluetooth not working in my truck
 
My primary reason for rooting will be to use wireless tethering. Since the hotspot is free until May 15th, Il'l probably wait until then to root.
 
I will root after my free hot spot ends, I use it for my galaxy tablet. I really love this phone as is but need my hot sspot.
 
I use the phone for personal use and also to connect to my company's mail and calendaring system and the company specifically restricts rooting. Besides it works great so far for me. So I probably won't. This is my first droid phone.

Assuming I root it, is there a way for the admins in the company to find out ?
 
This is my first android and I dont have any dying urge to root it immediately, but i do plan on rooting it eventually.

I'll probably wait another month or so to root so I can get an idea on what I'll actually be using on the phone and what I wont.

The simple desire to not have crapware on the phone is enough that I'll root sooner or later.

This is me. I'm perfectly happy with my TB as is. With the different launchers and skins, it's keeping my customization side happy. Now, when I start to get bored, that's another story. :)
 
I am a former Eris user too. Rooting was definitely necessary with that device because stock it was SUPER laggy, plus the community for that phone ruled and at the end of my run with it I was running giingerbread and it was super stable. With the TB however, I have no major complaints and it's super snappy, yea there's all that bloatware but theres so much memory on board that they amount to be nothing more than an eyesore. I'm with the OP, I'll root it probably in a few months when I get bored and wanna see what stable ROMs are cooked up
 
+5 for wanting to remove bloatware. Until a good, stable 1 click is ready. Just waiting it out for now.

I rooted as soon as I got home from Verizon with the phone. Got rid of golf, blockbuster, etc. and I couldn't be happier :)
 
Im fine with it as it is right now. with LP+ I just hide the bloatware and it feels like it doesnt exist..most apps are on SD though, so no real hit to storage...
 
I rooted my Eris not long after I got it, and installed xtrROM_5.0, and it stayed that way until I got the Thunderbolt, then I flashed it back to stock and unrooted.

But I see absolutely no reason to even consider rooting my Thunderbolt until after Gingerbread is pushed. And even then only if Gingerbread sux, will I consider flashing something else. This thing is a powerhouse, unlike the Eris.

I would like to point out to you (and others) that Root is not just about bloatware. Customizing your phone is a big part, as is having the ability to back it up. I could transition to any android phone I want, and within the hour all of the apps would be just how I want them, with login credentials and all. That being said, root is not for everyone--you just do not need to accost people about their decision.

Also, the gold game is ~130MB. I do not know if it is originally that big or if it downloads most of it, but that is huge.

I agree with offanairplane... if you're just rooting to get rid of the bloatware... it really doesn't do anything other than free up some space. Once the devs are able to create stable custom ROMs that will take full advantage of optimizing the phone... and SetCPU is working, I'll root.

But right now? What else does root give you at this point? Yes it's been oc'd... but I don't want to be that guinea pig. Wireless tether isn't really a big deal until May 15th rolls around.

The ADB for dummies and Easyroot + S-off method is pretty much stupid proof. lol I dont see it getting simpler than that without just looking at your phone and its rooted. May want to check that out. The link is all over the place and plenty of help if you need it.
 
The current method is a data wipe. Based on the fact that we're copying images, I suspect it's going to be that way for awhile. If there is just not going to be a way for an in-place root method that does not wipe the data partition, then I'll deal with the impact of wiped data.

Those rooting for bloatware, when you remove it does it actually increase accessible storage in the read/write partition, or just create empty space in the read only partition?

I used an alt launcher (GO) able to create folders to gather all the bloatware into out of sight out of mind goodness.

Normally I root for setcpu, and not so much to overclock but to underclock when idle. SystemPanel with monitoring on tells me I don't need to root for dynamic underclocking.

I'm not really compelled to root. Most of the in your face parts of Sense replaced by Go, bloatware hidden, performance great, underclocking in the box, about all that leaves is rooting because I can.

How are you "hiding" the bloatware? Is there something I'm missing? i'd love to hide some of that crap, too.
