Root How to install ICARUS 1.1 by Isaacj87

Hmmm, I am in a predicament. I just finished installing and booted up Icarus 1.1. Everything was running smoothly. Until I accessed the app store. It was a little buggy at first, and then it seemed to work. I searched for what I wanted, and then the app store crashed.

Next thing I knew my phone literally went into a powered down state. From that state it immediately (no buttons pressed) went to the android logo and started looping.

What is my course of action in this situation? I just wanna be sure that won't brick my phone.

Worse comes to worse, I think I would just have to reflash Icarus.

My main question is: Is it safe to pop the battery out and try to reboot?

OH WAIT...I know why they should not be lost, and one reason they could be....OK:

**When you "Add New Contact" do you add them to the account so that they are also 'up on the cloud' in your GMail account. That's why people flash or do whatever, the contacts just dump right down to the phone again.

*Other Option, when you "Add New Contact" you select "PHONE" which means your putting the contact on the internal memory of the phone, so when the new system syncs (syncs you gmail, contacts, etc), If you added them all in PHONE, then there is nothing to sync, and lost contacts.

Does this make sense I hope. Now, for a second lets just assume this is the case, which I'm guessing it is, as they would have synced by now.

OH, 1 thing 1st - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SYNC TURNED ON. It's the circle of two arrows going around and around....(PS: I don't mean to sound condesending, I just don't know your level, so better to be safe/overly simple than not understand right)

OK, if sync is on and you still don't have them.....more than likely. Your only good hope at this point is "Did you Back Up Your Contacts?" (on a regular basis preferably)

So to answer your question directly. YES, you can install Icarus and keep all of your personal stuff, with the exception of your chat threads from messaging. I guess it's possible that someone out there has a way to do it, but each time I've done it, I've started over with text messages, that's all.
So if for some reason you have something important in one of those just copy/past it or forward it to an email, prefered to your Gmail (the one used for the phone) so it will also be synced back to the phone.

So, I hope that was a little helpful, although I realize that it wasn't what you really wanted to hear.

But hopefully you have a backup .vcf or something like that....or maybe just need synced.....

Yep you got it pegged i usually always save my contacts to the phone memory only and no worries i understood your explanation fine i just never used gmail for anything other than school related stuff hmm i guess i should move all contacts to gmail Flash then sync and move them back to phone memory ? Can this be done? (I know i might be asking stupid questions but its better safe than sorry)
 
First of all, thank you to everyone. I've been browsing threads and there are many helpful people here. This is my problem-I can't download icarusmod-1. 1-.zip. I've tried but it just isn't happening. Does anybody know of a link other than the one to mediafire?

did you wait for the lil timer to run out and it to download now? Or do you have a paid mf acct?

It's downloading! I found a post in a thread elsewhere that suggested clearing the browser history. I did so and all is well so far-8% complete. SLOW, but I'm excited. Thanks!
 
. HI'be been running Icarus 1.1 for a few days now and I have to say that I'm a convert. I had no problems following the instructions and my device runs much more smoothly.

The only problem I'be rum across is this: my voice dialer, which was working well running stock, seems to be not responding to much input. In other words, the pop-up box stays openindefinitely, flashing "listening," as if the much is turned off .

I've searched the threads but haven't found anything. Has anyone else run across this? Is there a setting I. Haven't run across? Should i just re-flash Icarus?

The link for the icarusmod-1.1-signed.zip isn't working. It lets me get to the site, but I cannot download the file.
 
There is no countdown. The 1.1 option takes me to MediaFire and tells me to click on a link to download the file. When I click on it, it takes me to a page that says it cannot download the file because I have to be signed in, but guess what... I am signed in.

I had the same problem. Try clearing your browser cache and try to re-download. I fought for 2 days and it just kept reloading the page.

As far as voice dialer goes, I removed SD card, rebooted, and it worked!
 
I finally got it. I had to "Add to My Account" then went to "My Files" then clicked on the Download button and it finally started downloading it. It would not let me download it from the window that the link takes me to.
The other files are on MegaUpload. Why couldn't this one be there too? That is a much easier place to download from.
 
Ok--sorry, but another question here: I (stupidly) removed my SD card to backup files without unmounting it. That's when I discovered that my voice dialer worked. Naturally, I lost all apps on the SD card, but when I reinserted it they're still not loading properly. I can explore the files on the card, but when I reboot it doesn't run ADW Launcher, etc, and none of the apps on SD show in the drawer. I've tried booting with / without card, pulled battery, etc. I've backed up with Titanium, should I just restore? Will that work?

this one is prob a simple solution, flashed icarus 1.1 tonight and holy crap is it so much nicer and faster than the stock rom. Thank you to the dev for working on it and continuing to do so. MMS was a fast fix.

I have found my network time in upper right corner is off exactly 4 hours. Its 445am, and I have 845am on my phone. I need to get this correct as my phone = my alarm clock and I do set up notifications at certain times. Having a 4 hour difference constantly is definitely NOT ideal. Like I said, its likely a quick and easy fix, any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW I'm on metro.

I have been running Icarus 1.1 for about a month now and today when I rebooted my phone it would not restart. It stayed on the android title boot screen. I did not do anything at all just did my routine reboot. Has anybody else had this problem yet?

From what i read the processor is already at 600. The icarus mod can't be overclocked because of the kernal...but you can underclock to save battery. Setcpu is good but its not free, but there is a cpuwidget on the market that will do the same and its free.

never had that issue when i was running v1.1
