Me too - now I can finally root this thing![]()

To anyone who has done the update:
Is it faster now, working better?
Can you tell a difference?
hmm, I received the notification text on Friday, but nothing yet saying that I have an update waiting.
Is there a way to force the update or do I need to wait for them to push it to me?
If I go in to system updates - update android, it say's my phone is up to date.
Oh no! What if I miss the message and it never is resent and I can never update.

Because I only had the phone since December and I did not think there was a clear concensus that rooting the phone would not be an issue with the 2.2.2 update. Why can you root it now as opposed to when it was 2.1?

Is it easy to root this phone? I don't see a rooting guide here, and from what I was reading it didn't seem like there was a "pure" root if that makes any sense. I've manually rooted my Nexus One before (not unlocking the bootloader.) Is there a tutorial or app you can recommend on this?Because I only had the phone since December and I did not think there was a clear concensus that rooting the phone would not be an issue with the 2.2.2 update.
Also, the phone is like a different device. Big improvement in speed and snappiness. I moved a bunch of apps to SD and now have 50 megs of free space and dozens of apps loaded. Form the hour or so I have played around I have:
Moved many apps to SD
New menu-bar - now states "3G" not "EVDO"
Deleted LauncherPro - the stock launcher is now just as fast
Noticed a "News/Weather " app that I had not seen before - I like it.
New access to MUTE from the lock screen (slider)
Contacts are now finger-friendly (nice and big)
Market app is very nice - deleted AppBrain, no longer needed
Virtual buttons seem fixed - though not 100% sure as its early testing
...and much more.
This is a big update - awesome for $25 a month. Thanks VM![]()

I will wait a week or so until other, more knowledgeable, people root the VM 2.2.2 OS and follow what they did. Look over on XDA dev, Im sure something will pop up in the next few days.Is it easy to root this phone? Ahhh... so THAT'S how we get those Update.zip files...
Anyone, who will receive notification going forward, could you also please kindly do the following before running the update?
Install any free Logcat App from Android Market and install on your phone this weekend prior to 4/11/2011.
Run Logcat App first. Then, only download the update and choose option to install it later.
Check the log file created by Logcat and send the output to sdx-developers Forum. Especially, cut and paste the Google/VM/Sprint server names where Update is coming from and any user id and password (if there are any at all).
Also, please check whether your SD card shows update.zip in root folder of SD card.
If yes, please copy that file from your SD card root folder to your PC and post it to sdx-developers Forum.
This will help all rooted Samsung Intercept users on Virgin Mobile to get Update.zip of official Froyo Release.

Reading more of that thread it looks like someone may have a copy of the Update.zip file. They're trying to coach a user through getting the file off their phone and throwing it to a file share. May be worth monitoring. Please check nice post Froyo Android 2.2 update screen shots from user Travis Kline:
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: S:M910.05.EC07

Just downloaded it... What needs to be done to get this on our phones?
