Eris to v2.x, when?

I heard later this week for 2.x.. Reliability of the source? 60%, and only THAT high because he has an Eris and works in tech support.

My speculation arose when the moto droid did not have the feature standard. Is this not the case for htc, a different phone company who decided to have pinch and zoom for their phones, given the fact they will share the same new os?

Eris has pinch zoom native because of sense, that is a htc product, they are tailoring sense for 2.0, so when we get it, it will retain pinch zoom

I'm somehow doubtful this phone is getting 2.0 seeing that they are practically giving these phones away. Doesn't add up.

Verizon and HTC have already said the Eris is getting an update to either 2.0 or 2.1 in the first quarter of 2010. There is really nothing to be doubtful about.

We might see something at the end of the month, but I would venture to guess more like February. They have to get this little MR2 update out to all of the handsets before they can start thinking about sending out the large 2.1 update.

Verizon also said it would deploy and support apps for the LG Dare and they delivered NONE and simply turned thier head from anyone who complained. I am not expecting Android 2.x for the Eris, verizon has a track record of empty promises and lies.

Wow, you seem to really annoy me and I don't get annoyed very easily. I am confident in Verizon and HTC and that they will deliver for us and we will get a 2.XX update.

I agree that Verizon has had a bad track record in the past. But, since they have changed their tune in regards to smartphones and now not always crippling the software on their phones I am trusting them more and more. Since about the beginning of the fourth quarter last year, I think Verizon has really turned a corner. I think they finally woke up and realized they were missing a very large chunk of business. They have finally started getting some really great phones, making sure that the software from the manufacturer is untouched, and leaving all of the features of the phone untouched. Because of this change I am confident they will supply the software updates that HTC provides.

They have already supplied two updates from HTC in the two months that the phone has been out. This is a drastic change from the old Verizon, in my opinion.

I'm kinda confused. The Verizon statement(below) doesn't actually say "upgrade to 2.X" it just says the phone will be upgraded. Could this be hype and we'll only get, for instance, 1.8? Or does an 'upgrade' technically have to be from say, 1.X to 2.X?

there is no 1.8. the only versions actually released to the public after 1.5 were 1.6, 2.0 and 2.1 i think. but based on everything i have read they will definitely not stick us with 1.6. i believe even HTC has said that they will release at least 2.0 for the Eris. but probably 2.1.

Regardless of what happens we wont lost pinch zoom cause that is a sense thing. And I would think the tweaks sense needs between 20 & 21 would he minimal and we will get 21

Well, that statement clarifies that the upgrade will be either 2.0 or 2.1 since those are the only ones where Google Maps Navigation works...

Actually, Google released Google Maps Navigation for 1.6, so that's not necessarily true. That said, HTC obviously has a lot of experience making a phone with Android 2.1. If they are going to work on porting Sense to any Android version, I can't believe that it would be 1.6 rather than 2.0 or 2.1.

It would only make sense to upgrade to 2.1, while the "nexus one needs to be special" argument also seems valid, htc will win regardless of which model will is purchased, now, since sprint has declared both Hero and Moment will be upgraded straight to 2.1 HTC/VSW needs to/only makes sense to stay competitive and give both droid and droid eris users 2.1

I don't care so much about animated wallpapers just because my screens are mainly covered in apps and widgets anyway, but I am really looking forward to 2.X.

I'm sure we are going to get the update in due time. It's got to be out before the end of March according to what they've said so far so just have to be patient. It's already the middle of January after all.
