Root Hot spot questions....

Dumped my hero for an evo last week...wow what a difference..
My hot spot works when I turn it on...I connected my computer and iPad to it and it works 100% ...is sprint going to catch on and bill me the $30 ?
I was looking into rooting and tether with wireless tether app but then i just tried to turn it on first and it was not blocked or anything, no warnings saying like if you turn this on and use it yo will get billed, etc....anyone elses just work? Get billed? I guess I can use it, check the bill, then argue it or keep using depending on the billing outcome..?
What are the pros and cons of the root/tether option? Can it be unrooted just as easy ?
Thanks!

Out of curiousity I tried it on mine ( I am rooted but use Wifi Tether.. never occurred to me to try the Sprint hotspot) and it did activate and I have an Internet connection on my laptop. Hmmm. I don't know if they would be able to tell or not but now I'd like to know too!

If you're phone is getting data via wifi, it can wifi tether just fine. But that's kinda silly since you could just have the tethered computer get on that same wifi network the phone is on.

I recall that you could tether on 4G on 2.1 but not 2.2? I never really paid attention, so not sure. But tether might be open in a 4G connection.

3G tethering should not work with the Sprint Mobile Hotspot app.... unless you're running a ROM that included the hacked version of the apk that disables the authentication with Sprint servers...

I typed the wrong name... it is actually called Wifi Hotspot. Works the same as Sprint's hotspot.

Anyone else opn a non rooted phone have a working sprint hot spot? I'm curious to find out of they catch on without signing up for the plan...I'm using it right now on my ipad

Is your phone's data on wifi or 4G when you claim to be tethering for free?

Where did you purchase your evo? if it wasnt a new one from sprint there is a chance it is still rooted, or has at least the rom rooted...

OP should post some screenshots showing:

1) tethering in progress while on 3G
2) Settings > About Phone > Software information page

I think you might get a month free or something. When I first got mine I could hotspot and USB tether fine, but then all of the sudden it stopped one day.

Check your Sprint account either on your phone (Sprint app) or online, could it be possible that they sold you the mobile hotspot without you knowing it? I would be inclined to call their customer service and let them know just in case - you wouldn't want a surprise on your first bill!
