Optimus V Appreciation

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input on the LG Optimus V. I've been scrolling through the forum and finding out new things I didn't even know my Optimus could do. I absolutely love this phone. Coming from a Motorola Droid Pro, the onscreen keyboard took a little while getting used to but I'd honestly say the Optimus is better than the Droid Pro. Blur stinks. LOL. :)

I switched to this from the Incredible - a $500 phone - and honestly feel it is 90% as good. Only drawback is the small amount of internal phone storage and the lack of Flash in websites.

Neither one really bugs me much when I am paying $25 a month.

Rolling down the highway with Vlingo In-Car reading me texts, Google Nav showing/telling me where to go, Pandora streaming tunes and one or two other apps running with no lag a tall, I'm a very happy camper :)

I returned the Optimus V today and moved on to Tmobile and there LG G2x with 4G and I am not looking back. Tired of the 3G issues and bad customer service. My V is sitting in Radio Shack with no internet. It died 3 days ago for the zillionth time and VM didnt help...ever. Bye Bye VM you can keep my 20 days left from my 60 bucks and shove it up your !#@$%#!

Overall, I am l morethan impressed with the v.

Since the 3g upgrade last month,98% of the time I try to use it, it works. phone itself runs fast, has good battery life and the size is perfect for me. $25/month makes the v an incredible deal.

I love this phone and have no complaints. It has its little querks but I don't mind. $25 a month and a sweet android phone makes me a happy camper lol

I hope everyone learn a lesson here. Rooting your phone to 2.3 and if it's SOL don't expect to get service from VM. Hey ashton4life, are you going to root that new LG G2x too?

Thanks starsandsky and lizm! I never thought this phone is better than Droid or almost as good as HTC Incredible. This is my first smartphone and I LUV it!! :)

Not sure what lesson you mean. I've been a very happy 2.3 user for a month and a half now. Ashton4life seems to have had issues with the coverage area, or with a particular phone. The first step should have been to try to resolve the issue with the stock phone's ROM and VM customer service. You should never attempt to fix a problem with a phone by installing a new ROM, the problem should be fixed first, then attempt a custom ROM if you want to.

If you root, you do void the warranty. However, customer service from VM is not covered by the warranty, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I love my Optimus V! I had it for 3 wks with no problems. It runs fast with almost no lag and the plan is only $25 a month so i am a keeper. The only problem is it doesn't run flash but i really don't need it.

My V works great. It's the best phone they offer at the moment. I came from $80+ ATT who bends you over for 2 years. The V is the closest I have found to my old iphone 3gs. I have no complaints. I just wonder how long this is going to last. You know the saying "all good things must come to an end". I'm riding the wave till that time though.

I'm sorry, but it's really attitudes as these ("If it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, it's gotta be a temporary gimmick") that has allowed corporations to rip off American consumers. Cellphone service is much more affordable in much of Europe, where consumers happily flock to low-cost providers in large numbers, which forces even the big players (which, BTW, are the exact same companies that rip off Americans) to follow suit.

Well you can say it's "an attitude". However, I'm speaking truth and history. Any time anything good comes along such as UNLIMITED DATA.....it eventually goes away. All the networks have slowly went to trimming unlimited to placing caps. This includes Virgin Mobile with their mifi.

Like I said I'll ride the wave till they phase it out and if that never happens then fine. But history is not on our side.

I most likely will not root it. Why? Because it is so blazing fast that it needs no tweaking. 1gz dual core cpu with Nvidia graphics. Also, the Gingerbread update will be availible any day now. Once I update I will leave it alone and enjoy the phone. Check out the reviews on it!

Jerryscript, my problem was not 2.3 or 2.2, my 3G had been giving me problems from the start. I returned my first V because the battery died in 8 hours. Then the second phone has been giving me problems on and off up until now that the 3G stopped working completely for 3 days straight. I flashed it back to my original back up froyo and still problems. I had no problem returning it since I flashed everything back. Dont get me wrong I loved the phone but now that I have compaired it to the G2x there is no comparison, its like compairing a pentium 4 and a pentium 1, big difference. The gaming alone is estonishing. LG makes great products, the problem for me was VM service. For all of you that can live with the $25 with 300 anytime minutes that is great for you but for me I went through the 300 minutes in 5 days. I check my minutes the first month and racked 2000 almost due to my work. For me, Tmobiles 80 per month for unlimited all and 4G is great and tethering flys!! Thanks all!

Just remember T-mobile has a 2GB a month cap on Data.for unlimited.

I am yet another happy camper with a rooted OCed V running 2.3.3. when i first got my phone like every other day 3G was down. now i havent had an issue for like a month, and to be honest, GB is alot faster, smother, and i get better service. and the battery life is alot better. dont blame everything on rooting and custom roms. phones are phone they have hardware which usually at some point in time malfunction

That's the point I was trying to make to the poster I quoted, that it wasn't using a 2.3.x ROM that caused you troubles, but other issues.

I wasn't trying to say anything about you, or your decision to leave your Optimus V and VirginMobile behind, that's a personal choice I respect.

Good luck with your new phone, hope to see you around!

Attitudes aside, whether positive or negative, Virgin and Boost are cheap for the same reason Sprint is cheap. It has by far the least coverage of all of the "big 4" carriers - at least with Sprint you can have some roaming. Virgin and Boost clearly outsource some of their customer service as well.

So while this "good thing" might never come to an end, in the big picture, you're not really getting as much as you would with another carrier - if only due to coverage and customer service.

Depends where you live and travel. I took my kids from Verizon to VM because Verizon has no coverage at their school, VM does. They're teenagers and do a ton of after school sports and activities..not being able to call me from there is a real issue.

So far, in driving around from the fairly rural area where i live to a couple of nearby cities and all around the region for my kids' travel sports, I've gotten pretty much the same coverage at I had with Verizon. One remote area I had no coverage when VZ did, in another area I had it when VZ did not.

You're exactly right... sorry, I wasn't real clear. I meant, overall coverage, nationwide, Sprint/VM/Boost have by far the least. There are definitely patches where the "big ones" don't cover, but overall they have a lot more.

I do a lot of traveling for various conventions throughout the year as well as personal travel and have yet to not have service anywhere I went.

VM has better coverage than T-Mobile did for me. I always had shitty service coverage with T-Mobile. Now I have VM and its a lot better in the city and rural areas.

Good point. I guess when you look closely at the map, it covers most major metropolitan areas, as well as most major Interstates. It's the real rural areas where there's nothing. But from a population standpoint, I guess that's a pretty small percentage.
