Help Droid X camera is AWFUL!!

I fixed the camera portion of it, not sure what I did, a couple of reboots did it, but video is still poor....View My Video

That video almost made me sea sick with the amount of movement. Anyway I believe most of the poor quality we're seeing is a result of the compression and resulting degradation from posting to that website. This is assuming it was taken at 720p. If it was, I bet if you post it to youtube, it would look much sharper.

Your picture wasn't bad. As for the Droid being as good as the X? Not by a long shot. I had a Droid and IMO the X has a much better camera.

You want a whaaaaaaaburger with those wafflecries of yours? You seriously have to be stupid to expect the same kind of quality from lets say a sony hd point n shoot as our phone. Go buy a high tech 400 dollar camera if you need super high quality pictures... QQ <

Personally I see nothing wrong with those two pictures <a couple post above>. Looks fine to me, then again I'm no expert at photography.

this pic sucks as well...

I have yet to see a cell phone that takes great pictures in dim light. I don't know too much about photography but I think it may be due to the tiny lens used not being able to capture as much light as say your standard point and shoot. Also a grainy film photo isn't as obvious as a grainy digital photo. Just the nature of the best. I have a buddy who has a knack for photography and he has taken some very impressive pictures with his 3 mp phone camera, I'm positive that skill level also plays a roll in getting the most out of any camera. Just because it's 8 mp and shoots hd video doesn't automatically mean we will suddenly be able to take fantastic video and pictures. I feel the camera is more than adequate for a cell phone. It already replaces like three of my gadgets in one package I consider it a bonus it also takes pictures that rival my bulky Power shot.

Looking for help on DX video recording. I've read that the DX will record 30fps at D1 resolution. Do I have to change a setting to get this? I've tried at D1 and i'm still getting 24fps.

Thanks

First I would like to say that I also have a DX and my photos in day/night and any lighting situation are at best EXTREMELY grainy and in the worst case TERRIBLE. (BTW, I use to own the HTC Incredible. Much superior camera.)

Second, for any who will dare say that there is no such thing as a phone that can take great pictures has apparently never seen or heard of the Nokia N95. This phone was out a few years ago (before touch screen smart phones were the hot thing.) and it took SPECTACULAR pictures with a 5MP camera and wait for it

It had a real flash, not a LED flash.

Another thing I would like to point out just as an FYI for those who don't know. 2 things that are extremely important for taking good pictures and is almost always overlooked is a good lens aka optics i.e. Carl Ziess lens (most commonly used on Sony cameras, also used on the Nokia N95) and a good digital processor which is capable of processing the photo fast enough. Yes there are other variables which are just as important. But I have noticed that most people have a tendency to overlook these 2 items or just flat out don't realize the importance of them when they see a high MP rating. Personally I would take a 3-5MP camera with a good processor and lens over a 8MP camera with a whatever or poor quality process or and lens any day that ends in the letter y.

Pics on the DX are great in good lighting, but poor in low light. Someone recommended the camera 360 app and there seems to be a big improvement. Camera 360 also has image stabilization where the default camera app doesn't. Makes a big difference. Anyway the low light pictures seem much improved. I just use the lite edition.

yeah, I think Camera360 tweaks some of the brightness/contrast to the photo after it takes it, but don't quote me on that

pictures in low light definitely look better with that app

My pictures and videos are always grainy and blurry. I've tried every setting. Has anyone gone to Verizon and complained, and gotten a new X with better camera? I wonder if mine's defective. Everyone's photos look 10 times better than mine.

Old thread but same answer. The camera needs a LOT of light. In good light pictures are OK. In poor light, very grainy. No fix possible.

This is phone not a camera. The lens is a joke...as it is on every phone. If you want good photos or video buy a camera or video camera. Take a crappy lens, and a someone who does not understand photography and you will end up with bad photos.

When you have a camera with auto iso you are doomed especially since the sensor is so small and the lens cannot let in enough light. The reason flash shots are coming out grainy is that the camera flash is not strong enough to light up the target so it compensates by bumping up the iso. Anything over iso 100 on any phone is pretty much worthless.

The phone would take much better photos if it were only 3mp but people seem to equate mp with photo quality and don't realize when you cram that many pixels on a tiny sensor the result will be poor.
