Root [ROM] [04.30.11] das BAMF 1.6

Trident

Android Expert
The das BAMF team is comprised of Trident, ThatDudeButch, and Adrynalyne. Thats not to minimize how many folks actually contribute to this project. We thank you ALL.

Please bear with us through some growing pains, as this is a major release and the different versions have to be created for it (remix). We are making a new thread because there is so much information to give out.

Presenting... das BAMF 1.6!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Features

  • 1.13.605.7 base
  • Debloated, which includes vzw framework, apps, games, libs, and permissions.
  • Tweaked filesystem and minfree.
  • Zipaligned (just once, not every boot, sorry), and deodexed. Odex and deodex perform the same after the first boot, when deodex roms get....odexed. This is merely to save space in /system and make tweaking easier.
  • Added Google Car Home, removed HTC car app.
  • HTC Hub and htcsense.com are partially working.
  • Removed Stocks widget, and app. Google has better apps for this anyway.
  • Superuser is fixed with rmk40's version, woot woot!
  • Our own busybox, version 1.19
  • Profile added to system/bin to help prevent certain malware.
  • Kernel has init.d support, as well as adb root, and usb debugging enabled on every boot (even from a wipe). Many optmizations, tun, cifs, nfs support. Overclocks to 1.5ghz. Undervolted from 1ghz and down. Stock voltage at 1.19, slightly overvolted past that.
  • Kernel will boot at 1036mhz! You must use setcpu to overclock, the kernel will not do it for you automatically.
  • Dusk theme from HTC Skin - "Dusk" Sense 2.5 (Z based ROMs) - xda-developers
  • No location indicator, thanks Bgill55!
  • No recent apps on notification bar. Inspired by http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1004975, using 1.12.605.9 framework, which appears to have quite a few fixes, at least in xml.
  • Transparent pulldown and location reticle deleted
  • Accurate battery and custom super quick transition animations, credit ThatDudeButch
  • Latest maps
  • Settings toggles, credit to sk806 and JSChiSurf
  • Settings toggles control app, credit to sk806 and JSChiSurf
  • 6 bar signal mod, credit sk806
  • gps enhancement, credit to ziggy471
  • Custom Das BAMF skin, credit to gadget!
  • Custom Boot animation, credit to dsb9938
  • Some minor build.prop tweaks
  • Rebot options, including hot restart, credit to aiccucs
  • Battery charging enhancements.
  • Teeter
  • HTC livewallpaper that rotates images
  • Modded email app, credit to Rsotbiemrptson ([MOD] Stock Mail.apk with the exchange policy removed - xda-developers)
  • BAMF toolkit credit to Trident
  • Two way calling recording credit to avs333, skvalex
  • Volume keys wake phone
  • Automatic brightness fixed
  • Google Docs app instead of Quick Office app
  • Tweaked carrier text, and banner credit to gadget!
  • New shell scripts and updater script credit to Trident

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Highlights of the BAMF toolkit by Trident:

  • Includes Spare Parts
  • Cpu Settings can be changed: min/max frequency, governor
  • Built in terminal emulator
  • LTE settings, turn on/off 4G, etc
  • Mount system rw, event at boot.
  • Block ads
  • Disable boot sound
  • Disable boot animation
  • Disable sense lockscreen
  • Disable status bar clock
  • Change i/o scheduler
  • Clear cache
  • Clear dalvik-cache
  • Clear battery stats
  • Change dalvik heap size
  • Enable uber quadrant (fun script, requires quadrant)
  • Change application install location
  • Remove system apps

There are three flavors. This list above applies particularly to the nte, non themed edition.

Differences between versions:

Debloat: Very few extra features from stock. Contains filesystem, and memory tweaks, as well as my kernel.
NTE: Full featured, but does not contain very many theme elements, and very little modification to Rosie, aka the launcher.
Remix: Full featured, plus additional theme elements and graphical tweaks.

Put it on sdcard, reboot to hboot and flash.
Note: This radio is re-released to include the LTE modem as well (mah bad). Check your MD5s! If it doesn't match, downlaod this until it does, and flash.

I also recommend a data wipe with this version.

Final notes:

-Having issues with Gmail crashing? Please clear data and cache under settings > manage applications, gmail properties.

-Unexpected closing of browser is usually due to missing Flash.

-Call recording app will record continuously, every call, unless you turn it off in the call recording options.

-If call recording app does not start, uncheck call recording box, then recheck it.

-It may be ilegal in some states to record both sides of the conversation. Please observ local, and state laws.

-Debloat edition is probably even more basic than it was before, due to the tight integration of framework mods. This means no toolbox, no reboot options. Sorry:(

-Please don't ask me if you need to wipe. You do not need to wipe, unless you have problems. Thats my story and I am sticking to it. :D Do i recommend it? Yes. Do I require it? No.

i think mainly the new kernel (which he has now posted onkernel manager) the tool box (thanks to our very own Trident) its also supposed to be much snappier. there is an updater script in this one as well.

im downloading it now so i cant comment on the snappier part as of yet. however that is the general consensus at xda.

Wow! This is fast! I don't believe in quadrant scores just real life experiences. Easily beats 1.5 in terms of smoothness. I tried the new kernel on 1.5 before flashing 1.6 for comparison purposes and this version clearly surpasses it. I'm not sure about battery life yet as I haven't had time to really try it out. I will report on this issue later. I only wish it had the five column app drawer found in liquid's Rom.

Fingers crossed no reboot as of yet. The new radio caused me to have them often on 1.5.

This looks awesome and with the addition of Trident, this team is awesome. Can't wait until the Butchdude releases the Remix later tonight, because I want to flash it, lol.

If you flash the Remix when it releases sometime tonight, he has the 5 columb app drawer in it.:D

1.6 is very nice and fast. I loaded it for a bout 20 minutes. I went back the 1.5 remix until tonight when i will load the 1.6 remix. Cant wait!

i very much liked 1.5,but my battery life went into the toilet with the combo of that and the new radio  i wasnt sure what caused it,so i went to cm7 for a few days, then to tesal 1.7. battery was crappy with cm7(its early im not complaining :D) and is back to what i experienced on tesla 1.5,even with the new radio on 1.7.

having said all that, das is a great rom,so i will undoubtedly try 1.6 remix in the next couple days  maybe the battery will be better than it was for me in 1.5

Remix / desense is the only rom that gives me consistently great battery. But it's probably just my phone, you know how that goes. This is truly a great collaboration by some great devs. Nandroid and load 1.6. But you must give it a few days for battery and cache to settle in. As for me, this is looking awesome and it has great support.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, digdug1.

I hope everyone is enjoying Das BAMF 1.6!!! :D

Certainly am, but Remix of course. Awesome work you've added to the team so far dude, just making the team much better. Can't wait to see whats ahead yet.

Had to flash this on Saturday, gonna flash some remix love today sometime. Glad to see you are on board Trident, love the toolkit! :)

Is a new radio flashed in this new 1.6 ROM or do I have to install the radio separately?

How is the new radio working for all? I am looking for better GPS locking.

You have to flash the radio separately. The new radio is supposed to improve the GPS lock. Just a heads up it has been known to cause random reboots for some, though

I'm sorry if I sound stupid... but, what?

Could I get a little more elaborate of a description?

Debloat is obviously going to debloat the "stock" ROM. How many "features" contained in this ROM are missing? There is a pretty big feature list. What is missing from that?

NTE is obviously not themed, but it says full featured. Aren't some of the features technically themes?

Remix is the whole nine, plus some extra stuff. What is the extra stuff? Is this the one that is de-Sensed? Is there a different version of this that is de-Sensed? I see a lot of people talking about running De-Sensed Remix.

I've used ROMs and kernels from adrynylyn in the past and I liked them, but the break down of these versions on this one are just confusing me. Maybe I need things a little more concise, I'm sorry.

back on bamf remix for me :) will report after work how it went. if i could get the rosie remap to set the right button to mms id actually use the sense launcehr and see how it goes. instead of got it setup in my usual fasion with adw.

I tried looking around in the BAMF thread over at XDA but didn't find anything regarding what exactly to so with the patch. I'm currently on Das BAMF 1.6 and want to do the patch for 1.6.2- I know I flash right over (no data wipe), but should I wipe dalvik or cache first? Also, do patches have to be done in sequence? 1.6.1-->1.6.2 or can I skip the first one? And I know it's always good practice to make backups before flashing new ROMS and kernels, does the same go for patches? Thanks in advance for any help!

You pretty much summed it up. Debloat is basically just the stock rom with a different kernal and no specific BAMF features besides the removal and addition of certain apps. NTE is the stock look, but with certain features, such as the new toolbox, as well as a few cosmetic tweaks. Remix features everything. Both the cosmetic, as well as functionality of the rom is customized.

I ended up going with NTE. I don't need or want a lot of weird themed stuff, though I'd love the choice to do it later on (fingers crossed). Debloat seemed too minimal, especially if it didn't come with any real features (the toolkit is pretty awesome). I am pretty pleased, but I still wish I had a ROM more in line with Virtuous for the Incredible. Very light, mostly stock feeling, but themeable pretty easily.

since no one else has answered this...

i couldnt find a real answer, either, but i get the impression you need to flash both. while you prolly could flash them both together,id personally flash the first, reboot, then flash the second, wiping cache and dalvik both times. i had flashed 1.6.1 allready, and finally got around to flashing 1.6.2 yesterday.

the safest option is to make a backup before flashing anything, just in case. if there were errors in the file,or if its a bad download,or for some other wierd reason your phone didnt like it you could end up with quirks from FCs to bootloops

that said i flashed it without making a backup and it went fine. i have no idea what it did ;) but it flashed and rebooted fine. if you choose not to backup just be aware you will have to reflash the rom and reset it up if something goes wrong. just because its a small update file doesnt mean it has any less potential to cause prollems :)

1.6.3 includes all the patches.

No remix version last I checked, but I'm sure it's coming..

Otherwise, I believe 1.6.2 patch included everything 1.6.1 did, with a couple tweaks so no need to flash 1 before 2..

WOW. This is GREAT! I have been using Virus since it came out and was hesitating on a change. But I got sick of my Video having nearly no sound. So I flashed this and all I can say is. THANK YOU! You guys are talented, Thats for sure. I love using this phone. ( The glass still sucks! ) waiting for a Rom to fix that!
