If I wanted to try the app. Over clockr, would I need to flash a ASOP Rom? I'm currently running Kings unleashed5 I have not flashed a kernel yet.
Thanks

Don't need an aosp rom but you do need a kernel. The stock kernel cannot be over clocked. It can only be under clocked and only then by disabling perflock. You'll need a custom kernel first. Also most of us use set cpu. We would be able to speak to it more. Careful do not check set at boot till you know it's stable or you will boot loop into eternity :). Most phones can't go over 1152 some can go to 1190 higher is pushing it and not worth it

im not familiar with over clockr. is that an app you get in the market? i looked it up and could not find it. i think most of us here on this forum use setcpu. here is a thread that has some good info on it. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/210253-setcpu-guide.html. main thing if you use setcpu is to make sure that you do not select the "set on boot" box. if you set it too high, you could end up in a boot loop. some can be set as high as 1190, but i would not go that high. i usually have it set at 1152.

Thanks for the answers, I am using set CPU, and it seems to work fine, maybe its time for me to flash a kernel. I'm now comfortable flashing Roms now thanks to you two guys. I guess flashing a kernel couldn't be that much different. I guess I would like better speed, my speed test seem so slow. Guess I've got the ROM and kernel bug...lol. what kernel would you recommend with my Kings r5?
Thanks again ;)

Flashing a kernel is the same except only wipe cache and dalvik before you flash it.

I would try netarchy 4.3.4 cfs havs more sbc but thats me. It may not have that exact name just find the one with the same abbreviations :). Link in my sig as usual...

Disclaimer...jury is still out on sbc...may harm battery, I beg to differ, I think the benefits out weigh the risks. But thats up to you...

Speed tests?

When I go to the link for the Kernels

[Kernel]netarchy-toastmod, Stable: 4.3.1 Beta: 4.3.4 (17-Mar-2011) Now With HDMwIn - xda-developers

And I click the link for the specific kernel I get a 404 not Found page. Its been like that for a few days now. Is there another place I can download one of those netarchy kernels?

Thanks in advance.

Yup 404...weird. Looks like the link works for older beta builds also you can also grab some older builds and some great info HERE

By older, the last stable build is in there, the latest are beta anyhow...

Someone could always drop box you one...

OOOH try kernel manager in the market. It has the new net kernels. I wouldnt use it to flash them but you can certainly use it to dl them with the free version.

Yes, we noticed the same error. My daughter used kernel manager to download and flash. I want to do it manually. So I do it like a Rom flash right? I've already got a nandroid back up. All I need to do is wipe what caches? And then flash kernel...right? Thanks
Oh one more thing , 4.3.1 or 4.3.4?

4.3.4 has some updates. The last stable is 4.3.1 but ive havent seen any reason not to use 4.3.4 beta yet. You could always read the changelog...which i will now paste because im a one stop shop :)

Notes for Revision 4.3.4
- HDMwIn support added, you still need to download the free HDMwIn app
from the android market to use HDMI mirroring
- Timer tick set to 1000hz
- Unnecessary extra debugging turned off for public builds, should result in a small speed boost

Notes for Revision 4.3.2
- Wimax code updated, 4g should behave a bit better
- SD card read ahead fixed, higher class SD cards should
have an easier time reaching their potential speeds

So looks like if you like to use your hdmi you may want 4.3.4 also if you use 4g. I dont so it wouldnt matter to me...and i control my sd read ahead myself. But you probably want 4.3.4.

Yup flash like a rom...make sure you have a back up first that is recent enough to not piss you off if you have to go backwards lol :). Except ONLY wipe cache and dalvik cache then flashy.

You guys have taught me better than that. Lol yes, I have a nandroid back up from Saturday. My daughter used kernel manager, I will do it manually. I feel better prepared if there is a problem, because you and evomattnc taught me the right way.;) Thanks again. Lesa
Ahhh, duh, talking to evomattnc. Thought someone else had answered this post. Lol

lol did someone else respond to you and i missed it? or was it just in your head? ;)

sometimes i piss myself off when i restore because i forgot to make a new nandroid to include a change :). If my nandroid was from saturday im sure ive modified at least 10 things since then haha.

Props on doing it manually :)

Lmao, EDit: saw your Edit :)

Lol, yeah I can be a scatter brain. When I go to kernel manager, I don't see an option to just download kernel. It's only option is download + flash kernel. Do I need to buy kernel manager to just download the file? They have an option to flash from SD card only if I buy kernel manager pro. That's what I want correct? Thanks again.;)

never flashed one with it, hang on im being a guinea pig, i'll answer you in a second...

ok it does try to flash after it downloads it but you have a few seconds you can force close it lol :) I did.

Eh just let it try, worst thing it fails and you have to do it manually.

I tried it when it first came out and it never actually successfully flashed one for me, not that i was going to use it anyhow, just testing.

it will create a kernel manager folder on your sd card and the kernel will be in there after it dl's

You want me to try and flash from there? Makes no difference to me. Worked fine for my daughter. All else fails I have a back up.

yeah its up to you lol you can try and let it flash it wont hurt anything, just fail. Or let it dl then force close it before it flashes. Your choice here :).

Normally i wouldnt use the thing but with the netarchy dl site down, kind of in a pinch...

I'm kind of weary about asking the app to dl and flash. How can it wipe before flashing while in the rom??
Any one have a 4.3.4-cfs-havs-less-sbc (Less Aggressive HAVS) link (Mirror)?

This would be my first SBC attempt, and I'm a little hesitant. Anyone care to alleviate my reservations? I really don't mind if it eventually kills the battery, I can get another one, I just don't want it to 'fry' the phone or have it blow up lol...

I do charge via usb and not an outlet if that matters at all, always overnight while I sleep.

Evomattnc, what's the difference between more sbc, less sbc, and no sbc? What is safer, less chance for issues? For that matter what the #ell is sbc? Lol

The more, less and no is for HAVS not sbc
Kernels are either sbc or nosbc
SBC is Superior battery charging I think. It means it will trickle charge the battery to full capacity, so you won't get that dreaded 10% initial drop when first taking the phone off the charger.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. For HAVS definitions, I'll let some one else answer.

To add to m previous post, is there a reason NOT to use USB to charge my phone, either with sbc or without? Its all I use, just curious! Again, always charge overnight while sleeping (8+ hours)

Ok so I'm on my phone now and I could say a lot about sbc but typing in here isn't fun on the phone so I'll say this...i use sbc. It will decrease the lifetime of your battery but I don't keep a phone long enough to care and batteries are cheap. So it is my honest opinion that the benefits outweigh the risk. You will get more time out of a charge and thats what I want. Gxhost is correct except maybe the 100 percent charge part but the explanation is in depth, maybe I'll get on the comp and type a full answer later.

Havs is adaptive voltage meaning it supplies a diff voltage based on cpu usage. The only thing to note with havs is some phones don't like more havs so if you get issues go with less havs.
