Root Opinion - 595 Leaked or Wait for Official?

khumprp

Newbie
So I removed a previous GB leak (I dont remember which), and I really liked it too. I SBF'd back to 240 so I could get the official update... But now I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it.

Honestly, I didn't do anything special with root access. Didn't even really uninstall bloat ware. Just wanted Gingerbread.

So, would you go up to 595, or wait for the official?

the official is .596 and it looks like it's not rolling out. I'd go to the .595

Yah, I didn't think it'd really release today. Friday seems like an odd day to do that, given if there were major errors, that'd make for a crappy weekend for the CSR's...

I'm thinking of giving it a couple more days though. Also, I heard some people were having probs with .595?

here is my suggestion...

if you're comfortable with the rooting/flashing/SBFing process....then i would say YES run .595 and here is why...

While i can almost certainly guarantee that the OTA will be rooted...its not a sure thing...while you may not take full advantage of rooting, having the option is nice...and certainly once the OTA hits team black hat will quickly have a rooted version available for those of us who do not take the OTA...so you will still be able to update...it just wont be done "officially"

So basically, I put 595 on, and if the OTA is better, there will likely be a rooted version, or I can SBF back to 240 and get the official OTA?

Yah, now that I think about it, this should be a no brainer...

- Yes...i would say with 99.999% certainty that there will be a rooted version within a few days of the launch...at first it may be one of those "3 part" jobs like one of the earlier leaks was...but it will absolutely happen...

- Or...Yes, like you said if you would like you can always SBF back and then get the OTA...remember however that you WILL lose root by doing this...

also...if the info we have gotten from our sources is correct...the "official" version is going to be version .596...

we started with .573....went to .588...then to .591...and now .595...

each leak has gotten better...but not DRASTICALLY better...minor tweaks mostly...and that is going from .573 to .595....the changes from .595 to .596 SHOULD barely be noticeable...i mean we're talking about a .001 jump in version number here...

not to mention...even .573 made Froyo (.340) look like dog poo...

rooting on froyo was just kind of a neat thing to have, but I don't think I could live without rooting on GB. I'm underclocked/undervolted, still running faster than froyo, and my battery life is incredible. On the stock battery I'm getting 24+ hours with HEAVY use. We're talking running games /w the music player running for hours on end. And especially with Netflix out now, I'm gonna need that extra battery life.

edit: I give my gf grief all the time for it. She's on a stock droid 2, and I love telling her "Hey babe, can I borrow your charger? Oh wait, nevermind, I've still got 50% battery life so I won't need to charge for like A WEEK."
