3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

FWIW - I didn't go with other roms or launchers for this reason, and went with one of netarchy's faster kernels, pre-30-fps fix for HTC - not one that undervolts or messes with the clock on the 8650. From there, I cut out all babbly-io apps, including a few of the Sense ones.

I have no complaints, experience no jerkiness and no lag in _Sense_.

Mind sharing your config if you have it documented? I'd love to try it.

I think the netarchy I had the best experience with was somewhere around version 4.1.7 - 4.1.9. Forget which one.

Yes, please do - basics are in my device listing to the left - 3.26 stock rooted rom, kernel is 4.1.0 - I'll have to get back to you on the bloatware and don't-careware I removed.

Amazon MP3 Store, all Sprint stuff, Qik, Peep come to mind immediately.

I was so happy with the combo that as things updated, I simply didn't.

Right. So then wouldn't we still benefit from hardware accelerated GUI regardless of whether Sense is already hardware accelerated or not? Not trying to sound confrontational (though I seem to be succeeding), just trying to understand is all. :)

Yes - but what does it mean: GUI?

If screen interface elements that devs call by including some higher-level GUI API provided by Google, then I'm at a loss as to how all of the various SoC/GPU combinations - past, present, and upcoming - would be accommodated.

Seems if I were asked to manage that project, I'd tell you I'd get right back to you - and then wait until all new processors ran so fast users no longer complained, and just draw a paycheck for long lunches in the meantime. ;)

I can't wait for Google to come out with 2.4 (still Gingerbread) to truly support dual core processor!!! Disappointing result for the Sensation aka Pyramid...

*Edit*
Google to release 2.4 in April and it's May!!! I guess no leaks yet...but really excited!

I would expect 2.4 (which I'm hearing to be Ice Cream Sandwich) to be announced at Google I/O next week.

If I read correctly novox77, 2.3 wasn't capable of the dual core support, so google released 2.4 but it's still Gingerbread!

just found this:

Google employee outs next Android OS as Ice Cream Sandwich | News | TechRadar UK

So even though we have confirmation of "Ice Cream Sandwich" as the official codename from an insider, we still don't have the association of that name to a version number. So it looks like a lot of people are just assuming 2.4 is ICS. But it might not be. At any rate, I don't really care about what name matches what version. I'd rather want to know when Ice Cream Sandwich is going to be released.

Since there IS a precedent for 2 version numbers having the same code name, probably because Eclair was meant for all of 2.x, it makes sense that going forward everyone should just reference Android versions with the code names. Especially since Google is not making distinction between code name and major vs minor versions.

Looks like the Kingdom may be coming to Sprint, and could be essentially a mini 3D (sans 3D)

New HTC Kindgdom Image leaks; headed to Sprint, not the EVO 3D

As you can see, the phone looks like the EVO 3D, and it's headed to Sprint. But the buttons are in different locations on the sides. In addition, we've learned the phone will have CDMA world phone support, a Qualcomm MSM7630 processor, an Adreno 205 CPU. It'll pack 768MB RAM, a 4-inch qHD display, 720p video recording at 30FPS, dual microphones, WiFi, WiMax, Bluetooth and FM Receive and Transmit, which will allow users to wireless play music over their car radio.

I know a lot of times BT/FM radio are the same chip (or on the same anyway). Any chance that the 3D could also have something like FM Transmit (don't know if it requires extra hardware or not)?

We were just chatting about that at - http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all-things-root/328992-xda-cracks-early-rom-code-named-kingdom.html (and don't believe that world phone stuff, not just yet)

As for FM, I'd be way surprised if it didn't have it. (Hmm - just checked HTC site for Sprint version - no FM listed...)

I checked it too, and no answer, however, Sprint's site for the Evo 3D mentions built in FM...so yes, I'd be surprised if it wasn't included as well. However, what I'm hoping for is the ability to transmit on FM too...would be nice in the car.

Sprint- All Together Now

Has anybody heard or seen this sense 3.0 go into landscape. I thought that sense 2.? did and I haven't seen a thing about it for 3.0. I just loaded xxxvirusxxx Kingdom rom with 3.0 on my EVO and was really impressed, but it doesn't go into landscape. I was really looking forward to that being a feature as I usually put my EVO into a holder in the car and hate the fact that everything is sideways. I went to LP and that fixed the issue but I really like sense.......Just wondering.

I don't think the carousel goes into landscape mode... some of the Sense apps do... Saw the Sense music player rotate.

I know I and many others dont want to believe it but I really really think we are looking at a July release.

There have been too many things right now going against it for a June release.

- No training in the stores yet
- No solid leads on a release date. Just all rumors.
- No big event planned for Sprint like they did last year right before it was released
- The biggest thing that I didnt like was that, I was reading on another board from someone who got to play with one at I/O and the phone kept rebooting and freezing. This leads me to believe they are not even close yet on finalizing the software.

I really think that with the Iphone being pushed to September Sprint will be taking their time now on releasing this.

The problem is if they wait until July they will lose sales to those people who are willing to wait the extra 2 months to see and possible choose the iPhone over the EVO 3D. I'm one of those people, I love Android but if I'm going to have to wait that long (another 2 months under this scenario) for EVO 3D then I'll wait a little longer to see what the iPhone 5 bring.

I agree with this. If the release date is pushed to July, not only would the I5 be on the horizon, but the SG2 would most likely be hitting Sprint and USA carriers in the same time frame.

I really think a June, and early June at that, release would be in the best interest of Sprint and HTC.
