Root Annoying update keeps returning?

The VZE update or whatever it's called keeps returning for me. I've done the whole "download, let it reboot, let it fail at recovery" thing and I thought that would end it for good, but every few days (or maybe even every day lately) I'm getting the system update in my notification bar and having to try to make it go away again. Is this normal, or should it have disappeared for good after failing to install?
 
It keeps returning, the only two choices you have for now is to live with it popping up every few days or downgrade to stock 2.2.2
This should change with Velocity 1.2
 
Yeah my GF's phone is doing the same thing, except hers gets to the point where it is supposed to reboot and then it never does. Oh well. Velocity 1.2 .. woohoo! :)

Try This

Okay so here is a step by step of what I did.

1. Using root explorer find build.prop and long press. 2. Choose edit text. 3. Change value of ro.build.version.sdk to a value of 8. 4. Reboot. 5. Go to settings-about phone-system updates 6. Initiate update. 7. Click to reboot. 8. When it doesn't reboot hold power to reboot manually. 9. Update won't reappear!

This is how I got it done for two Ally's.

Sounds good but I am havin trouble Bro.
I just bought Root Explorer for this.
I found Build.Prop and choose open in Text editor.... Then it says Warning you cannot edit this file because the file system is read only.

Any Ideas man?
Just so you know I am of course rooted and hacked up to the wazoo just like everyone else on the site. LOL
So that shouldnt be the issue.

Appreciate any help!!

Nevermind I got it to work.... Trying it now. (Rebooting)

Did you mount as read/write?
 
Anyway to do this without buying root explorer? I know I should have it, but I don't and don't want to buy it right now. I imagine this could be done with some adb commands??? Thanks for the tip.

Navigate to tools in sdk. initiate Adb. Remove file. Make sure phone is in recovery and connected by USB of course.
 
This should work the adb way

adb pull system/build.prop

then edit the build.prop file with notepad++ or something then

adb push build.prop system/

adb reboot

Im pretty sure the notepad that comes with windows WONT work because it will reformat it. Just puttin that out there in case. But i may be mistaken, dont think i am though.

You may be able to do it from terminal emulator on the phone, copy to sdcard, edit, replace and reboot.
 
I did it in a terminal window using vi. Of course I'm one of those weird old linux guys ...

If pico or some other more user-friendly text editor is available, it should be pretty easy to do in terminal.
 
I liked the solution of editing build.prop and changing the value of ro.build.version.sdk to 8 However, my build prop file already reports this value as 8 and I still get the update notification every few days.

Any ideas?

This was never a solution to stop the update notification; this is a method to make the upgrade app (and others) re-appear in Market. Going through with the update process and letting it fail is really all you can do at the moment to remove the notification, even if only for a few days.
