Radioshack Price Confirmed (Pre-Order page up 6/5/11)

I have learned to wait until Engadget or Gizmodo pick up on these things before believing them. Or Pocketnow.com on occasion who has picked up on this story

Sprint EVO 3D Priced $199.99, $499.99 At RadioShack

Now I know Engadget and Gizmodo aren't infallible but I will wait until they have something to say about this.
Pocketnow is reporting it, but they aren't confirming it. They are only linking back to the same original source. So I take that as Pocketnow is is basically saying, "According to these guys, Radio Shack pricing is..." It would be different if Pocket Now was saying, "We have confirmed Radio Shack pricing to be..." or even "According to these guys, and we have verified their report as accurate, Radio Shack pricing will be..."

Never said they confirmed it, just that they picked up on it. Also noting that Engadget picked up on it

No not confirmed, just sourcing the original site.

While it may seem stupid to you and me, people have spent a lot more time on even dumber things. Think about all the time spent on creating stupid computer viruses.

Not a party crasher. Just pointing out the high chance it's a a fake. And there are some legitimate reasons to be skeptical:

2: inyofacerecords.com listed on the "ad" is a link farm. Why is it even listed

Just FTR, that link to inyofacerecords is obviously a watermark, so it would make sense that if it was real they would want their name attached knowing the image will get a lot of media coverage.

I kind of agree that it could be a fake, but just to my untrained eyes it's a pretty durn good one if it is.

Another guess would be that it might just be a copy RS made internally for when the Evo3d does get some print marketing, what I mean is that when the ad comes out it could have the same subject matter but totally different design, font, etc..

Does Radio Shack use the same basic upgrade system as Sprint? If I have a full upgrade with Sprint can I go into an RS store and get it for the $199 price? If so I'll probably trade in the EVO to get it down to $99.

My favorite was the idiot blog that said the source of the story was inyofacerecords.com - hilarious that they didn't bother to use the link they cited as their source.

Always, always, always click source links when available. ;)

Just called the local Radio Shack that I pre-ordered through. They have my upgrade in the system and I will be getting the phone for 200 bucks.

Crap. Yeah.

I'm excited! Hopefully they have the Htc kickstand case/backing thingy too. I get a discount on that by doing a foursquare check in. :)

*does happy dance

Did they say it would cost $200, or did they just say they saw your upgrade, leading you to believe it would be $200 based on the info here? I hope this doesn't sound like I'm attacking your or something :-p I just want to know if they are confirming this in some way.

Well I told him that they had just announced the pricing for the Evo 3D and he said "We did?"

lol so I asked him if they had it in their system that I was due for an upgrade (Sprint was really ignorant about it a few moments before when I had called them) and he took down my phone number so he could check their systems. Like five minutes of being on hold later (no biggie) he said I have an upgrade and would pay $200. I double checked with him since the Sprint website calls it a "150 dollars off" and he said that the price is different for upgrading than for buying it outright (makes little sense to me, but I'll take it). So he didn't firmly say that he saw in their system that it was the real price, but in a way he did by his tone of voice. He said it would cost me the 200 bucks, meaning of course $199. I'm convinced personally, but I'm not a very skeptical person.

Ok can somebody help me out? I have evo 4g so only eligible for 75 dollar off (screw that ill save it). My question is what is the 100 dollar rebate through sprint they usually do? Is that just for new contacts or can u get that regardless?

So the full phone price=$500. The discount for new customers or 2-year upgrades is only $-150, but the final price they advertise for those folks is $200. Therefore, there's another $-150 in rebates they don't mention for those 2-year upgrade customers to get up to the same $-300 discount as a new customer.

In the past when I've asked about this, no one but the 2-year upgraders (or main-line Premier Gold 1-year) qualifies for that extra $150 in rebates -- not existing customers, even if you're at 1 year. So unless that's changed, you could potentially trade in your EVO 4G for $100, and/or take your $75 off, but that's it.

inyofacerecords is the black eyed peas' label so it does make sense that its there.

So if you are eligible for $150 from Sprint...does that come off the $499?

So that's 499-150(sprint) - 100(trade-in) = $250 for new 3D. Is my math right here?

My reading is that if you're 2 years (22 months actually) into your contract (or if you're Premiere Gold status at 12 months) and renew for another 2 years, you get the $150 discount. But I believe they also give you some extra rebates to bring it down to the "new customer" price -- in this case, another $150 in rebates.

In other words, if you qualify for the full $150 discount and renew your contract for 2 years, you'll get it for $200, just like a new customer would. And you can trade in an old EVO 4G for an extra $100 off that as well, bringing it down to only $100.

Is it really? I tried to verify that yesterday and was not able to. The Black Eyed Peas website lists Interscope, with no mention of inyoface. And inyofacerecords.com was just a link farm that didn't appear to be affiliated with the Black Eyed Peas at all.

used my full upgrade when i purchased the evo. can i still get the phone at 199.99 if i only have a $75 upgrade? if not how much would i have to pay?

I'm in the same boat. I think our best bet will be to go through Best Buy (likely the lowest retail price on the phone), use the $75 upgrade, and sell the Evo 4G on eBay for hopefully around $200. Which SHOULD make it about $200-$225 or so.

That's the current plan anyway.

Of course, I'm just as confused as you because the $499 - $150 (gold premiere) doesn't add up to $199 for renewing for another 2 years either. And I know that no one at Radio Shack is going to be able to give a good, correct answer on how all of this will work.

BEP are under Interscope. That website, In-Yo-Face Records, has "indie" label written all over it, just based on what they're looking for. And it's even debatable how legit the label is.

If you read the comments below the article, there is still some speculation about the legit nature of the add. One of those commenting is an RS empolyee.

I really think this is getting over analyzed. Using common sense we all know the phone will sell between 199 and 249 when subsidized. This ad true or not isn't earth shattering.

Over analyzing is what us tech nerds like to do.... :D
Heck, we need something to do with the lack of information from Sprint on the 3D......

There are alot of people who are trying to buy the evo3d and only qualify for the silver upgrade $75 bucks.....for the those people if you lost your upgrade because of the change in premier guidelines and would have qualified on 6/4/11 with the old terms...you need to call sprint and ask for an upgrade override...

Back to the topic...I hope Sprint just announces this thing. I have preordered already but I need to schedule a day off to play with it...lol just like a nerd

im assuming alot of people used their full upgrades to purchase the evo at 199.99. so i think its gonna be tough for a lot of people to get this phone at 199.99.......

Not true 100% of the time...Sprint has a process called an upgrade override. Anyone who bought the evo on June 4, 2010 and would have qualified for another upgrade on 6/4/11 but was moved down to the silver tier of Sprint upgrade tier because of the change can upgrade one last time on the one year mark...The way to do this call sprint and ask for an upgrade override....I did it for my sister and 3 friends its easy but reps will not proactively offer it to you.ymmv

I didnt have to do it for myself because I am gold premier due to my 13 year tenture with sprint
