3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

The Evo 4G has a solid LED on while it's charging? Ick. I hope you guys had some mods to change that.

Like it was pointed out above other companies have done it. Samsung has. They dont have to be the exact same phone but variations for each carrier. Why wouldn't HTC try it? After all Samsung had pretty good success with it and is doing it again. Why not HTC?

If its an iPhone oh well. I wont be buying it. It's not for me. I have an iPod touch and hate iOS and it's basically and iPhone 4 without the phone stuff and slightly smaller.

But, I guess that's just me. I don't mean to dismiss what you're saying as anything insignificant. I probably sounded that way. If so, I apologize. I'm just really skeptical. If you can wait until September for your next phone, more power to you! Hope it does work out for you and turns out to be worth the wait. I also hope they give more details in a better succession than what they did for the E3D so far.

Edit: Actually, I hope you're right. It would be nice if HTC made a phone and released it on all carriers. I hope that's a coming trend. That way people can pick their carrier instead of having to balance what carrier they want to be on versus the device they want.

BlackDynamite I agree with your initial thought that it will be the Samsung SG2. I read that they are shooting for a third Quarter Release (July to September?)on all carriers and the specs on it are pretty big. Also I think that the picture that was on BGR was revealed to be a fake.

Hmm.. never thought about this, but the Atrix does this as well. I guess it comes down to preference, as I find blinking lights to be annoying and compulsively checks the phone just to make it go away. That tends to work well for email/txt/missed call notifications, but not so well for a phone that takes 6 hours to charge :p
 
This was me from a week ago in the miscellany topic. It went un-answered and got kinda buried.

Quick preface:
For those un-aware, The Evo 4G had an extra LED notification light hiding under the speaker grille. It was allegedly left in the hardware build having something to do with Wi-max but went unused in the final software. A developer found it and coded a non-root app for it to blink for SMS notifications that worked with the stock SMS application.

There are other ways to make the regular LED blink while charging. Like using an alternate SMS applications like handcent. Or a ROM creator can add it as a feature to their build. Or HTC could add it to Sense for us! It probably isn't that hard to add an extra option for it under Settings -> Display.

But there is another little something to the left of the speaker opposite the front facing camera. I don't recall any videos pointing it out but I have a bad memory. Is that the ambient light/proximity sensor? Or could it be another notification LED of some kind? (see photo; shrubby's photo from the previous page)

Maybe it is just wishful thinking, but I really liked the fact that the Evo 4G had 2 LED's for notification. Even if it was a convenient 'mistake'. The notification duration lasted much longer and was more customizable on the unused LED. I doubt they will leave another extra present behind the speaker grille for us. Maybe they should add more options to the stock notification LED if there is not a second one somewhere.

Edit: Just found an app on the market called Light Flow that might work for the Evo 3D if we have no other choices

my guess is that the proximity sensor is where it is on the OG Evo (under the glass between top bezel and top of screen (where the HTC and Sprint logos are). It's IR, and I've noticed on the Evo that there is an IR-passthru filter over it (like the dark reddish/purple covers you see over the IR transmitter for remote controls). So given how blurry that photo is, I would think the proximity sensor is near invisible.

That whitish thingy on the left inside the speaker grille indentation is.... maybe a notification light, but why wouldn't it be under the grille like the green one shown in your pic above? That would at least be consistent with OG Evo.

Yeah, not sure, but I'm leaning toward there being two LEDs just like the Evo.

Also, the movie tie in of the Green Hornet couldn't be any type of hint at the date because that movie has been out for awhile (since 5/3) on DVD now.

That was kind of the point. Outside of wishing there was no real evidence to point towards a first week of June release. Yet everyone was sure it would be the first week of June.

The movie tie - in is not about The Green Hornet but the summer movie weekend on the July 4th holiday. A cell phone that has 3d and a movie weekend that is going to be big in 3d..well the marketing angle is obvious. Though it could be argued they could have done this anyway.
 
Hope this date (24th) is true.. i got a week off starting the 25th. I will pick up the EVO 3D on my way home on the 24th... and have a great "stay-cation." :)

I don't really feel like waiting til the 24th, but I'll survive. I don't work that day until 3pm, so I'll be there at opening.
 
Sorry, Im sure this is posted elsewhere, but I cant pinpoint it... Can I get someone to verify that the $125 service credit promotion for switching to sprint ends on 6/23 (aka the day before we now thing the 3d will drop)?

If so, dirty poker. I was looking forward to that

but apparently they have been extending it multiple times.

and if they don't just do what i'm going to do, buy a different phone a couple days before then swap it for the the 3d

Port In Credit

That is why I believe Sprint will be selling the phone before the other retailers get it on the 24th.
 
Plan on June 24th.
If you want the port in credit then buy a phone a few days prior then just return it and get the 3VO.

That's exactly what I would recommend. Buy a different phone on the 23rd, then just swap it when the evo 3d is released.
 
I took my friend into the Sprint store last month she was thinking of switching from AT&T and they said the port in credit was at the Sprint store only.
