Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Same here.

Interestingly, my son has a Viewsonic gTablet running the VEGAn-TAB Gingerbread ROM and the sideloaded Netflix does exactly the same thing.

That, to me, says the Netflix app is not playing well with Gingerbread.
I have CyanogenMod 7 on my Nook Color which is gingerbread and Netflix runs fine.

Battery life news is very very exciting. I am hoping to see an improvement there.

Ok, the new Gingerbread keyboard is cool. The colors are rough looking though. If you go into advanced features, there is a greyed out drop down menu for keyboard layout, and keyboard theme. anyone know why this does not work yet? I am curious about this one.

I believe that the Evo's keyboard is not generated by the Android OS, but by HTC Sense, which was not updated. Therefore, no new keyboard with the Gingerbread update.

How did you get the new keyboard? Is there a setting I need to check? I thought it didn't come with 2.3 only a sense update?

Thanks to the guy who posted that ShootMe isn't working now... that's a huge bummer. Is there any way to go back to Froyo? I wouldn't have updated if I had known Netflix, ShootMe and my Dolphin browser were going to act weird. I usually wait for such things...
ShootMe was never supposed to work on an unrooted Evo -- whatever the reason is that it worked is essentially an open exploit, so for better or worse, it's the right thing that it's closed up now.

I went to HTC Software update, hit the "check now" button and it said "update available." I remebered I didn't have wi-fi on so I exited, turned on wi-fi, came back and hit the 'software update' again and now it keeps telling me 'your phone is up to date, no updates available for your phone"
Did i bork myself?

Did anybody hard reset? Debating whether I should or not and there are some apps that are no longer on the market, but I can't back up because they're on the phone and can't be transfered to the SD.

Netflix is broken, which sucks, but it'll get fixed. Now, if only we can get 2.3.4 to get that awesome video calling in Google Talk.

Yea...Just hope it won't come out right as I get my next upgraded phone in a year! haha.

Do you need to have the previous update installed before you can get Gingerbread? When I try to get the update, I am only being offered with 3.70.651.1, which I didn't want before due to the multiple issues a lot of folks had with it. Has anyone been able to get the new one without having to previously install 3.70? Thanks!

I just got a pm from user i.have.droid stating he got the new keyboard.

So what gives? Did we get the new keybaord? Maybe there is a setting somewhere we overlooked?

As a general troubleshooting tip:

for a particular app that's not behaving properly, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, choose the app, and clear the cache and data for that app. It means you may lose your settings for that app, but manually set them up again and see if that fixes things.

This may or may not resolve your issue, but it's always a good first step in troubleshooting any issue.

@vailpass NO, you didn't bork yourself! You just have to keep trying. I'm guessing it's doing that bec there's a million people trying to download it. But it was doing that to me the first few times I tried to update then I finally got through.

Just a question about the Netflix issue, has anyone tried to uninstall it, and re-install it from the market? Or if that doesn't work, has anyone tried the APK available on the XDA site?

Edit - here is the thread with the Netflix APK's - [APP] NetFlix APK Mirrors - xda-developers

I tried the uninstall/reinstall with the result no-go. Tried the whacked version and it keeps coming up with a message about requiring an update which won't install since the app isn't signed. Haven't spent much time at it though.

Ok, I know you think that my link earlier in the thread did not work, but the keyboard you are using is proof that it did. If you want those extra features, go back to the Market and pay $.99 for the full app rather than the free one you are using. It will appear as Gingerbread keyboard in your input options.

Yes, you have to update the phone sequentially
