Paint the kickstand?

I see on here to some people are complaining of the finish wearing off the kickstand. Mine is very minimal right now and is only in a very small spot. Im not too worried about it. I love the kickstand. I was thinking what it would look like painted. What kind of paint would you use to make it stick to the metal? the extended Seidio case has a seperate kickstand on the case because the stock one is covered up. The kickstand on it is painted black and it looks really really sick. i was thinking the kickstand would look amazing with a black case painted black. Anyone thinking the same thing? Anyone do it?

Fine grit sand paper, a can of krylon fusion, and some painters tape is all you need. While I haven't done my kickstand, I have used that method on metal automotive trim peices many times before.

I dremel'd the kickstand and plan on painting it.

Like SolidOrange said, you'll want to either use a fine grit paper, or a red scuff pad from 3m. If you go the rattle can route, tape the hell out it. My plan is to use some modeling paint with a coat of primer down first.
Ill post pics when im done, right now its just bare metal.

Another option that i saw worked really well was in the other thread and i cant remember who to credit, but he used a plastic mechanical pencil. Pulled off the eraser and used the plastic end. Turned out really well, and still left the 'with google' on there.

Check that out before you go the painting route, might like the results, and much simpler. I wanted something a little darker myself.

So, you mean he just peeled the finish off with the metal where the eraser used to be? That's not a bad idea, actually

I would love to powder coat it if it was easy to get the kickstand off the phone. So many colors to choose and more durable than spray paint

I just got done painting mine satin black, I'll post some pictures once it's dry and I pull all the tape off. So far looks pretty good.

Should of used a textured flat black.

No, just left it, it wasnt chipping on the underside and it would be hard to get an even coat without taking the kickstand off and im not about to attempt that.

I left it uncovered when i sprayed it and it has a nice faded look to it. But realistically how often do you look at the underside of the kickstand, you know.

Oh i know i was just curious. Doing the underside would be an unnecessary pain in the arse. Ur paint job looks good though.

Don't think I was trying to say it looked bad or anything. One of these days I am going to take mine apart and powder coat it at my job.

If you find a good way to get it off without completely disassembling the phone, let me know.

I'd be all about powder coating it. I can already tell it's going to be a semi-ongoing job keeping it looking nice. Paint just isn't hard enough to survive being picked at every time you open the kickstand..

I've worked in a body shop and to do it properly would be more work than I'm willing to put into it. Not to mention I'd be a little worried about the phone while baking the clear coat..
