Evo 3D 'pro' reviews

wow.

The reviews weren't nearly as good as I was expecting. And they KILLED 1080P :(

Reconsidering now...maybe GSII? Photon? I was really expecting more from HTC...

What they said on battery life for the evo 3d on engadget makes no sense.. They said it got almost 15 hours out of "barely using it," yet it only slept 6 hours. That sounds like medium-heavy use to me. In addition, if you look at their Galaxy S2 review, they appeared to love it and thought the battery life was fantastic, yet looking at the battery chart that they have pictured it was nearly drained in 12 hours. They sum it up to the screen "being so brilliant" or something.

I sense a lot of inconsistencies.

He said he made a 15 minute phone call and then slept for 6 hours. I believe he meant that he slept for 6 hours, not that the phone only slept for 6 hours.

On the defense of the Sensation/E3D, if you take a look at all of his videos the guy is obviously biased towards the SGII.

Perhaps but the browser scores and the screen difference is easy to judge on our own, from the videos.

See is why I never rely on reviews for the simple reason that these are all subjective opinions and nothing more, not to mention that the only thing thats consistent about these reviews is that they are all consistently inconsistent. Like the engadget review for example where they complained about the battery going from a full charge to 60% in a little over an hour but they had all the radios on while taking 3 or 4 videos and 80 freaking pictures with half being in 3d. I mean seriously, what the hell else would you expect from the battery? I can't wait for 6/21 to place my order and when I get it I will then see for my self.

I always sport an anti-glare screen protector on ALL my phones just like I put tint on my cars. Sunlight isn't a factor.

I don't use Bluetooth or ear pieces. I use SkullCandy headsets and they make the difference in hearing.

Lets see wimax drains the battery so does using 3D camera lol.

For the reviews to mean anything they need to have reproducible findings rather than just "oh hey the battery stinks lols" or "the camera takes rubbish pictures, here you can see in this 640x480 picture on our site"

Well the cnet review confirms that only 1gb of the 4gb of internal storage is user accessible. This isn't nearly enough when other phones are coming with 16gb of rom. Unlike the reviews of poor battery life and call quality, this isn't subjective. Looks like I may be holding out for the photon or sg2.

Dude are you being a smartass? Everyone already knows WiMax and 3D will drain your battery. This is old news, especially about WiMax. And the mods will tell you we discussed 3D and battery usage months ago. You are late to this forum.

Well...I don't know about other Mods, but this one would say that you can't tell a user he's too late to discuss it. 3G was a battery killer too if you recall. This topic will be discussed in every 4G capable phone thread until people start complaining about 5G.

My point is that every phone that had 4G will be evaluated partly by how efficient the 4G is. No one is late for that discussion. 4G will always consume more power than 3G but the gap will narrow as the tech matures.

I think I may just wait for the photon to come out and compare, no need to rush into this. I want my phone to be a good phone and if all of these sites are having issues with call quality I'm not going to buy it.

Ouch at all the negative reviews. I think the 2D shots on the phone looks really nice, and I'll be watching reviews to further refine my judgement on the phone.

I've been watching these forums since March and waiting anxiously for the EVO 3D. I was sure this was my next phone, but after reading all the reviews (thisismynext, brg, engadget, wirefly and WSJ), I am having doubts.

Maybe i'll just wait for the next nexus device.

They do say that only 1gb is user accessible but they also say that the included installed apps can be moved to the SD card so that works for me (if you can in fact move them)

What's this crap about looking at 3D on the phone using angles? Reviewers keep trying to do this and their eyes hurt, they get headaches, or they can't view the content at an angle. Well, when I take my depth perception test I have to look "through the rings" in order to see them. I don't think 3D is meant to be viewed at angles. When I was training my eyes for the test back in 2004, I would capture the 3D content off of a paper then try to view it at an angle. That takes practice and you cant view 3D content at an angle for too long unless you train your eyes to do it. The eyes in your head are muscles and you can train them but I suggest just viewing the content straight ahead.

I finally got a chance to read and watch all the new reviews.

I have to say, the only concern I have is call quality. CNET's review actually posted a small audio sample, and I have to say, it doesn't sound very good. This will be something I'll test at the Store for sure.

Curious though: as part of Gingerbread, I thought there's an app called DSPManager that allows you to use an equalizer to tune your audio-out sources: headset, phone speaker, and bluetooth set. I wonder if this can be used to improve the sound quality.

7/10?

Thats really bad. I don't think I will purchase this phone until well after people can give me their outputs, if at all.

Very dissapointed.

It's engadget, what do you expect? If it doesn't have an Apple on it and an 'i' in front of it, they aren't fans. I went back and watched her opening her new iPad and she was obviously a fanboi.

And as far as I'm concerned, this will be a huge upgrade over my Hero.

I was able to play with an Nintendo 3DS, and I know exactly what these reviewers are complaining about. If you look at the screen straight on, the 3D effect appears almost effortlessly. But if you tilt the screen a little, suddenly you see double ghosty images on the screen, and it's disorienting, because your eyes don't know what to focus on. It can cause eye strain.

For video and images, I don't see this as a problem. But for playing games, where it might be natural to tilt the phone to control the game, that could be a problem.

That isn't true about Engadget. They loved the original Evo 4g. One of the author's top gadgets is the Nexus S. There are other sites that shall remain nameless that very obviously lean towards iProducts.

Just curious if you are referring to a site that starts with a "C" and ends with a "NET"? :D
