Root how can I put Android 2.3 on LG Optimums V ?

You have spent hours reading about these ROMs, but you wont spend 1/2 hour to try one out for yourself?

Why should we do all the work for you, try it, if you don't like it, get rid of it and try something else. Asking what's so great about something is like asking why some people love liver and the rest of us gag on it.

BTW- aospCM7 is no longer 2.3.3, as of 2011-05-16 it is now 2.3.4 ;)

CAN SOMEONE HELP.

I tried all this confusing instructions on how to upgrade my LG Optimus V to 2.3.
I don't know what I did wrong.
Can someone tell me in plain non-techy language what are the detailed steps to take to upgrade (It is Virgin Mobile).
I did not understood some of the steps.
I am used to PC and MAC operating softwares and not familiar with phones.

If you are not already rooted, download Gingerbreak from the market and root your phone. Once rooted, follow these steps.

Smitty's Guide on getting gingerbread on your Optimus V!

List of working and non working components for rom: LG Optimus V What Works - ROMRepo

How to flash clockworkmod: Flash the ClockworkMod Recovery - ROMRepo

Thread with files: [ROM][WIP][ALPHA] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7+ (Gingerbread) - xda-developers

If your coming from stock: Install from Stock Optimus - ROMRepo

If your coming from another rom: Install from another ROM - ROMRepo

If you need any help feel free to ask!

ok, i'm using the guide for coming from stock. i got to step 10 which says "Select 'Flash Recovery and Drivers'" in ROMTools. but that option doesn't come up. I just get
1.Install drivers, obtain r00t, and flash the recovery
2.Obtain r00t and flash the recovery
3. Flash Recovery
i don't know which to press lol

Option number 1 will do everything, install the needed drivers, root the phone, and install the custom recovery needed to flash a custom rom. Number 2 will root and install the recovery, 3 will just install the recovery (need to be rooted first). If you are completely stock and have not the drivers on your pc yet, choose option number 1.

lol thanks, but earlier i tried all three and neither worked o.O anyways, since then i decided to use the method posted by JerryScript here - http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/348642-help.html#post2779210 but i have run into ANOTHER problem. I've downloaded the file aospCWMod-VM670-20110531.img and placed it in the root of my sd card. then step 6 syas to
6) Open Terminal Emulator and type the following:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /system /system
flash_image recovery /sdcard/aospCWMod-VM670-20110531.img
reboot recovery

after i type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/aospCWMod-VM670-20110531.img"
it says flash_image: not found but i have it downloaded and placed in the root of the sd card

When you type su what do you see after it? If it's a $ your not rooted,if it's a # then you are. Next Question, what method did you use to acquire root. The gingerbreak apk is by far the best for obtaining a permanent root. SuperOneClick should only be used to shell root the Optimus "V" and then add the rest of the files with command prompts. What did the line of code do after you typed it in Did it replicate itself, or did it seem like it did nothing at all? If you used Gingerbreak to root it's only bad point is it does not install a flash_image, which you have to do before you can flash the aospCWMod recovery. Get flash image here flash_image.zip then go to http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/359572-root-optimus-v-without-computer.html read post #31 where it says in line 5 of the code(su counts as one line) /sdcard/xionia_recovery.img(return) just substitute xionia_recovery.img for aospCWMod_recovery.img(or whatever you renamed it to) Hope this helped. If you have any more questions, try to go into as much detail as you can. The more info you give the quicker your problem gets solved....(Remember,I'm not just a member of this forum,"I'm a Nuub")

thanks! yes, i used Gingerbreak, worked WONDERFUL! and yes i see $, then i type in su and it says super user has access or something, and the symbol turns into a #.

when I get to the third line, cat_/sdcard/flash_image_>_/system/bin/flash_image(return), after i type it in, the phone says /sdcard/flash_image: no such file or directory. wait nvm i got past that line. lets see about the next :D

unfortunatly the flashing the aospCMod didnt go so well. got the error "E:can't open /sdcard/aospCMod-VM670-20110601-signed.zip installation aborted.

ok so i can make it back to xionia recovery. aospCMod-VM670-20110601-signed.zip won't install. could that be a file problem. should i try putting a different oine on my sd card?

ok put my sd card into my computer and put a new cmod file on there. i flashed that and gapps and my phone is now turning on ;) you guys just might be done with me ;0

kenta426, That's how you do it. You read, you do, you learn. I messed up my first time flashing too. I didn't give up, I read more and read things over and over and did it over and over till it worked. Congrats and welcome the VM mod!!

Glade yall are happy, if you start to feel like you might want to try some different ROM's look at Harmonia and Bumblebee.

People keep saying this Rom is outstanding in what way, someone should have come up with a truthful pros and cons list, all i hear about it is this does not work but i do not care i do not use it anyway, and i m pretty sure VM will introduce more Android phones,i am more then willing to wait for a new phone which will most likely have 2.3 on it,and everything will work 100%.,i am not knocking anyone who does put custom Roms on their phones, but at least say something other then i can overlock the CPU as a pro.
Have you ever heard "Don't knock it till you try it". You really should install the ROM. Then see what it can and can't do with your own eye's. You might learn something worth talking about from your own experience,as apposed to talking from little or no experience. This would benefit the members of this forum more as you would have hard evidence, and could go into great detail based on actual knowledge of said ROM.

Dear Stephen,

Thank you for emailing LG Electronics Australia and New Zealand Pty Ltd.

LG has not yet released an Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update for any of our Android based phones. We expect this to be released soon, but have no firm date.

I hope this has been of some assistance.

Should you have any further questions regarding your LG product, please do not hesitate to contact us either via email, or alternatively you can call the LG Customer Information Centre on 0800 542 273, which operates 7am

We expect this to be released soon, but have no firm date.

"Soon: "Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. "Soon" shall make no contract or warranty between LG Electronics and the end user. "Soon" will arrive some day, LG Electronics does guarantee that "soon" will be here before the end of time. Maybe. Do not make plans based on "soon" as LG Electronics will not be liable for any misuse, use, or even casual glancing at "soon."

As long as there are the faithful members and Devs of this forum, what do we need an update for. We got killer ROM's that LG and VM can't even begin to touch. And the Gingerbread ROM's are now totally amazing(aside from bluetooth not working). JerryScript and Blarfie are constantly making updates to keep this ROM the best out there for the "V". With ROMTools by mmmark111,you don't even have to have a permanent ROOT to have a custom recovery, custom ROM,and theme.... How will you get Gingerbread on your phone?? Wait forever for the service provider to get around to it or...Use ROMTools and have a Gingerbread ROM that is way better than what LG or VM will come out with EDIT: Bluetooth works,Bluetooth Works. Blarfie and JerryScript have come out with the latest update to the Gingerbread 2.3 based ROM: BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme. I can no longer find anything wrong with this Gingerbread ROM. I have the CPU speed set to 787Hz-480Hz(I benchmark tested CPU speeds and this put out the best overall numbers) Angy Birds is so smooth and snappy you would swear it was being played on an I phone. Downloads from the market sometimes happen at the blink of an eye.Browser speeds on WiFi are sometimes just as good as on my PC. Battery off charge times average with medium usage:22to25 hours(I turn off sync.,WiFi,Data,GPS,No app is updated automatically, I only turn things on when i need to)you would think that the battery and system would get really hot at that CPU speed, quite the contrary it hasn't gotten passed 39c in the heat of the day.and there are so many goodies and tweakes built in it will take me a month to figure most of them out....So will you wait for a so so Gingerbread update from LG/VM or install a ROM that will continue to impress you on a daily basis.
