"I HAVE MINE..." Thread...

Well, I got it activated and needless to say....I am overwhelmed :(

I guess that could be a smily as well...It's just going to take a couple of days to learn this OS! I am so ingrained with Windows Mobile its not even funny!

So far so good! I do wish there was better coverage at my house though:rolleyes:

airrave requires you have a home broadband internet service.
one more device in your home to use electricity 24/7
make sure you get it for free and free service

How do you get it for free? I am in desperate need of one. Wifi works well though:)

i totally understand.. windows to android..been there done that..

1 advice for you... forget about trying to free up memory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i know in windows.. you got to keep the memory free so the OS can work better. android is different, it wants to use up as much as it can!!!! there are going to be tons of apps running.. for no reason! really, it is normal!

just forget about things that are running in the background. it really is OK. NO, you cant find how to "exit" most apps. just hit "back" or "home"; and forget it is running.

do not use task killer to free mem!!! you will be happier.. your phone will be happier! keep away from task killers till you really need one for bad behaving apps.

That's good to know because I had to do that CONSTANTLY with WM.

The last time I had to learn a new OS was in statistics at college. Mac, what rubbish! ;)

here is what i have read how it is done.

you need to make sure you are in a good "coverage" area.. not in some distant corner that sprint cant help, and knows you will leave them anyways.

call sprint care.. explain your issue with signal strength.
they will attempt to fix.. with their normal things. let them! be nice.

call in again. make sure the note your account.

do this 3 times... or more. be nice..;)

then ask to be canceled do to their in ability to help you get good signal out of your home. and the cancellation waived. this is not your fault.. they did not meet their part of the contract.. to provide you service!

now.. they will offer you an airrave.. and should be free. no service charge. you must have a home broadband internet service for it to work.

Oh man, that's a little too risky for my blood. I'm on Sero Premium (was Sero) and I would just die if I lost it. I would rather deal with it than to come a hair close of losing it. Thank you though! They did try to sell it to me though. ;)

well.. you can just keep calling in.. and letting them know your issue..

with a record of calls... about your signal... and you long tenure with sprint.

maybe you might get lucky .. a good cs might offer it to you.

or
you can ask them for one.. but you have to have a history of complaints.

but since you are on a very cheap plan.. they may not want to offer it.. till you push them.

its your call.

Yeah I will seriously contemplate it because it would be nice.

Noob question #1

If I turn off "Mobile Network" and have "Wi-Fi" on that means everything I do will be going through my home internet connection only right? I just dont want huge roaming data off the bat.

Thanks in advance for not making fun of me.:o

Got mine from RS. Had to take the first one back. It had two dots of light shining though the black part of the menu key area. The RS gave me 158.13 for my EVO4G with charger/battery. I kept the 8GB card. The MGR said that because sprint was giving $150 trade in value they would up it a bit. He said he would give $148.13 with out the charger.

Made the phone 110.xx with Otterbox impact case (after trade and tax). Not feeling the case. I bought a TPU case from amazon but the power/sleep button did not line up in the case so it was hard to get the phone to wake up.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but turning off "Mobile Network" only disables 3G.

You might want to put it on "Airplane" mode to channel everything thru wifi only!

I believe that Airplane mode disables wifi as well.

No worries - if the notification bar shows the wifi icon, the 3G radio is effective shut down - as in not used. Switching back and forth and on/off really isn't needed.

Also - if you're on one of the popular unlimited plans - you don't have to care about data roaming charges.

We were all new at one time or another and it's always ok to have questions - users helping users, that's our whole trip right there. :)

That turns everything off. I am getting really good speeds with having the Mobile Network off and Wi-Fi on. My signal is pretty bad here (same as before) so I'm figuring that it is going through Wi-Fi

If you see an icon similar to this near the upper right of your display, it means you're on wifi:

wifi.png

If you see a 3G with little arrows or a 4G instead - then you're using the Sprint network.

If they are are "on" at once, only one is happening, the others are really in standby and doing nothing. (Well, ok, they do radio management stuff - nothing that costs you.)

The bars display is really just CDMA radio - meaning you're still able to make/receive calls and SMS.

Great!

Thanks for the visual:)

I was figuring that it was doing data on Wi-Fi becuase of it's speed.

Still overwhelmed but loving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am off of work this Sunday and will be doing a WM to Droid review then!

So just at home on your wifi there is no need to turn off 3G also? I turn it off at work but that is cause I'm in a basement with a bad signal.

Well, I have a confession....I currently reside in a basement:o I split house rent with a friend. It's nicely finished though!!:p

I live on the outskirts of 3g and being in a basement doesn

I live on the outskirts of 3g and being in a basement doesn’t help in the slightest.

Believe it or not I’m doing fine with WiFi only (for now) I do have a question though...

What "band" is texting on? 3g? lesser?

Not sure about Sprint as I will be a new customer officially on Monday but on AT&T all u needed was 1 bar whether it was 3g edge or gprs u could text. I'm thinking Sprint works the same.

Just went to the Sprint store to get my EVO 3D. Spent almost nothing on it. Traded in my EVO 4G, got $150 for it. Used my $75 early upgrade. Got a price override from the $549.99 down to the $199.99 price with my Sprint Premier one year upgrade before they stopped allowing it.. Added my wife onto my plan. Got her an LG Optimus with a new line ported over from Verizon with a $125 credit to be added on a later bill. No activation fee. Pulse a 13% credit with my job. Also got two accessories for a total of $48.74 with a 25% discount.

Spent a whopping $140.89.. minus the future credit of $125..

For two brand new Android devices and two accessories with an upgrade to a 1500 minute unlimited date family share plan from the single line of 450 minutes unlimited date..

I spent a grand total of.....

$15.89

I'm jealous lol. Since I'm switching to Sprint I had to pay just about everything. Luckily I got activation waived thru the site online and the $50 credit per line discount plus the $125 credit per line for 2 lines. I spent over $400 for everything with tax, free ship. Have a $350 credit waiting for me upon activation and 20% of my monthly bill thru my company. Heard being a member of my bank can maybe get me 23%. Will look into that next week. So in the end it looks like I spent $50 for being a new customer with the credit. Not too shabby eh :-).

Ok good. I do get at least 1 bar in my subterranean dwelling ;)
