Root [ROM] GB-CMod7-Beta

I'm at 320. So I guess that's not really true.lol
well I suppose each phone is different. I didnt like scaling the cpu down too far, when I used setcpu to scale down I decided to keep it at 480mhz then I decided not to use it at all. I get damn good battery life out of it. though now it is not being used as I did go with the galaxy prevail on boost for the 3g.
the optimus is my testing phone and right now it has gone 2 days 1 hour and its at 82% battery. granted this is very customized rom and very light use.

your testing phone eh? either y'all's wallets are perpetually empty, or you have a small fortune you can spend in extra phones to play with lol.

lol
lets just say perpetually empty is an understatement.

I love my optimus, I may sell it though. I hate the 1x data rate I do not know how reppard can stand it I didnt have the patience for dialup way back in the day and I dont have it today either.
I bought my prevail on payments, er am buying I should say. My wife likes qvc and she saw they had the prevail for a special value with easy pay.
I thought we would be getting ripped off.. paying extra but in several small payments so I said sure lets do it. However I was pleasantly surprised it came with a samsung wep460 bluetooth ear piece and a car charger, all for $192 after tax and shipping.

I can't stand it :) I am just forced to bare it for the time being. I am supporting a family of for on a single income so internet is expendable at the moment. I was going to get some broadband in the next few weeks but my starter in my car has been acting up. It took me 15 minutes of smacking it with a hammer to get it started so I could leave work. Got it on jackstands in the carport now and just pulled the starter so I can put a new one in tomorrow. 1x data for now. Been getting over time so maybe that will change. I've got my eye on metros 4g phone. I don't like sliders but 4g sounds good to me.

I know exactly how you feel, I have 2 boys myself. older one is autistic, several neat challenges. I do all my own mechanic work as well, though I have a few bigger problems, got a headgasket starting to pressurize the cooling system. fun fun.
I got a great deal on my internet when I moved in, well great is realitive best to be had where I live, cant even get it anymore I was lucky to get it as a promo when I did. $59 for 22mb down 4mb up and bundled with basic cable service, through comcast. and I dislike comcast on principle but what can you do.
I thought about the metro 4g but the extra, $60 per month, plus the price of the phone itself led me to say naa no thank you.

On all the car work, you guys should live more locally. I'm an ASE certified mechanic, I just don't do it for a living anymore lol. As to 4G, the one thing that bugs me is that I figure it'll be like all the other 4Gs out there: it'll drain the battery, and most of the time, you won't find a reliable 4G connection except in the heart of major cities, right?

The one difference is that on everyone else's phones, if 4G isn't around, they have 3G. For us, it'd be toggling between 1x and 4G all the time.

I take solace in living on a campus that has wifi in every single building I'll ever be in, from the dorms to the math building to wherever.

I too, grow tired of being in my group of friends, and every time the opportunity comes to look something up, I get trumped because they have their htc evos and droid X2s that download shit at 100 mph lol.

But I still win paying only $50/month for having all the other features they have pretty much, and unlimited. If you guys didn't know, an actual worthwhile app from Metro for us smartphone users is the visual voicemail deal. part of my plan already includes visual voice mail plus, so I don't have to pay the extra $3/month. Voicemails get downloaded and saved as sound files (you gotta hunt for the directory, but they're *.amr files--playable in VLC), and transcribed automatically into text as well.

Nice ROM liked it a lot. Only thing my headset (apple earphones with mic), didn't work. I am using it a lot, so that's a big deal for me. I could hear the other person but my mic didn't work. So went back to sense ROM.
Thanks anyway!

Don't use visual voice mail if you rely on phone calls to make money. Had someone leave me a message saying they needed something fixed right now, visual voicemail translated it to fix this Thursday. I got screwed. Cool proof of concept, not ready for real world... kinda like speech to text. lol

speech to text seems to actually work okay if I enunciate reasonably clearly and choose a middle-ground between being too far from the mic and being so close as to overwhelm it. Interesting that you had (i'm assuming since you didn't specify) days in between receipt of voicemail and download to the VVM app. At least you still get the regular notification, although the delay between that and seeing it in VVM kinda takes the 'magic' out of it lol.

i dont get any screen lags unless i set my cpu to powersave. i would like my home and back keys to light up though just a pet peeve. oh and usb mass storage and the speaker volume seemed stronger before roming. not sure if its just me but my signal has gone down after roming and updating my roaming area. my phone does freeze up and restarts from time to time a little annoying but i am too looking forward to getting a 4g phone soon, 1x is killing me getting mostly a .06 to .8 service speed -_- thank god for wifi 10-15gs =]

EDIT: fixed signal strength by oc

over clocked at 806. what about you?

I am in jax florida, not sure where you are but from looking at the coverage map 4g should be flooding my area, of course your other points, battery, 4g to 1x etc. ya I get ya.

speaking of violent speed toggling between 4g and 1x without the middleground of 3g, my friend told me one time that he had heard there was some sort of hack to get your phone to use 3g while still using metro--like using 3g from other carriers or something. It sounds incredibly illegal or at least like lawsuit bait, but I couldn't help trying to search on it even though I couldn't find anything at all. have any of you heard about something like that?

Some one asked about that before they thought they could stack 1x or something. actually using another carrier 3g while illegal because you would be using service you are not paying for it would be cool

In other words, voice to text works if you speak like the overly white weatherman from the local news, lol. The visual voicemail prob I had was not timing, it was translation. The person in the message said "I need this done today", visual voicemail showed "I need this done Thursday". Cost me $250. Visual voicemail is WORSE than text to speech because the person leaving the message doesn't know they are using it... at least when I'm using TTS I know and adjust my voice(which is why I don't end up using it ever).

oh you're referring to the text. I do realize the high level of inaccuracy with voicemail to text, I just think it's cool. It's good for a quick idea of what they mean, but I figured you should always listen to the recording that is ready to play right below the text readout.

I been using this ROM for quite some time and love it. Problems I came across:
-Screen lag
-Low in call volume
-Action Keys don't light up
-Extreme battery drain (6 hours at best) Even with SetCPU set low
-Can't send MMS with wifi on
-A Cyanogenmod process crashes upon booting sometimes
-Holding camera key makes phone oddly vibrate till the app starts?
-No mass storage
Some are questionable and could just be a problem on my end. My biggest problem is the battery drain, I charge my phone properly so that's not it. I cleared battery stats after being fully charged? SetCPU seems to not even save a bit of energy. Does anyone have a clue to why this could be?

-When you block a call (number) the phone still rings and you can't decline to call... so you have to wait until it stops rining.
-Bluetooth does not work

I had same issues as you did except mms and mass storage worked but battery sucked! I'm on joneidy sense rom now and it runs smoother and my battery lasts much much longer on the sense rom so I would recommend using that rom after you get tired of the cm7 rom personally. The cm7 rom is awesome my main issue was battery all the minor bugs I didn't mind I just got sick of my phone living on the charger! Lol

I don't think that I can change ROM's now, CM7 grew onto me. c: I'll put up with the battery drain for now. But yes I'll greatly consider this ROM later on when I pass my phone down to my sister. I know this is gonna sound really dumb but is there a kernel that will work with this ROM that allows overclocking? Just for when I'm using intensive apps, I'll probably have to stay on charger when I'm doing so though. Otherwise enjoy my screen caps:
