Help List your Evo 3D or qHD Incompatible Apps

NeoteriX

Android Expert
I thought it would be useful to start a list of incompatible apps so that we can drive developers to better support our device.

One particular source of incompatibility is the the new fantastic qHD (560x960) screen is great on the Evo 3D, but it's a non-standard Android 2.3 resolution. For the most part, applications scale well and there are no problems displaying them on the qHD screen, though some apps are more finicky than others.

Two I know of off the bat:

  • Speedtest by Ookla: displays at 800x480 centered in screen with black border)
  • ExitStrategy NYC (displays at a smaller resolution at top of screen)

Also, others are documenting incompatibility arising from monitoring apps' inability to detect/understand the clockspeeds and dual core nature of the Evo 3D.

List your apps and explanations here!

What about 3vo incompatible apps in general?

So far, Spare Parts immediate force quits on the first option and Elixir, SystemPanel and Android System Info (by Electric Sheep) are all confused about actual memory, processor rates - and the fact that this is a dual-core phone.

Your call to keep this here and change title or lose this post compadre, I'm ok either way. :)

I'm ok either way -- perhaps the more broad Evo 3D incompatibility list would be more useful instead of having more than one thread cover app incompatibility.

I can confirm the problem with Radar Now. I have had similar problems with the 4x3 widget on Oakley's Astronomy Photo of the Day app. I contacted both developers and got prompt response from both saying that they were revising their app and my comments would be considered. One asked if I would be a beta tester.

I came to report Radar Now as well, but how sad is it that I just had to open up my speed test app to convince myself that you're crazy, and....you're right! I've run 23 tests total since getting my Evo3D and never once noticed that it had borders on all sides. There's so much black in the app anyway, it just never hit me.

iheartradio !!

Just like the netflix app, I don't see iheartradio available in the Marketplace. Does anyone know if there's a work-around on xda, like what they did for netflix? (I was able to install the blue version of netflix per the instructions without any problems by the way).

Switchpro doesn't work completely. Airplane mode & data connection toggle doesn't work. There's an icon for 4G but unless I'm mistaken, can't add it to the widget. (not sure if it ever worked since I'm coming from the Hero)

For the widget you're looking for try:

Add widget.. scroll all the way down to "Settings"

Select whichever "power widgets" you like.

Not sure if this answers the second part of your question, hope so.

Didn't show up in the Market for me either, but worked fine if I went to http://www.iheartradio.com/droid and downloaded from there.

a lot of the qhd incompatible apps can be fixed by downloading spare parts from the market and unchecking compatibility mode, reboot phone.

Very nice catch!

And I'd not checked for some time - but there are now two versions of Spare Parts.

I was using -

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidapps.spare_parts

And I'm now trying -
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.droidgram.spareparts

The first option on Battery History was force closing the first one - this one is coming back instead with an informative message that the required battery info seems to not be found.

So - I turned off compatibility mode on the second one - rebooted - and Speedtest.net is still smaller with a black window.

I downloaded the first one, and it already showed compatibility mode turned off. On a lark, I used that app to toggle it (with reboots), and - no change to Speedtest.net.

You might want to cross-check my results.

It sounds like you have exactly the right idea - I recall clearly that the reason I got Spare Parts in the first place was to uncheck that exact same feature for my Evo, as there were so many apps not terribly ready for 800x480.

So - I'm totally endorsing your idea, just asking you to cross-check my findings and suggesting that even though it might not work with an app here or there, overall, it's the right way to go.

Highly recommended and recommend the second one linked above, in my opinion.
