Root [ROM][WIP] CM6-Ascend (CyanogenMod 6) Current: 04212011 (Cricket/MetroPCS MMS WORKING!)

any savvy cm6 ascend users on? I'm needing the sql file out of /data. I am trying to make a CricKOFF for Playfulmod ;)
 
So I have been running CM6 for about a month. Today it died on me. My phone was running a little slow, so I rebooted it (hadn't done that in probably a week). It wouldn't go past the "CyanogenMod" part of the boot. I tired pulling the battery, booted it into CMW and tried to do a recovery (only to find I didn't have one). So I decided to flash it to CM7 and give that a go.

I had tons of problems beucause I couldn't get my computer to recognise my phone, or the SD card. Eventually I was able to get it all to work using Tokenpokes guide. I downloaded the latest build of CM7 from the wiki.

Since I got it up and running I have had nothing but problems. The 3G data only works occasionally. ADW kept crashing on me, so I dowloaded Go Launcher Pro, and that Frose on me, so I downloaded GO Launcher EX and it keeps rebooting on me.

Market won't stay open. More times than not when I try to open it it starts to for about 5 seconds, then just closes.

At this point I want to clarify - I AM NOT BLAMING THE DEVs. I have enjoyed all their works and think its great. I am assuming I just got a bad download, or did something wrong. I am also assuming that I will have to flash it all over again? Is there anything else I can to do get it more stable? Could I have done something wrong?

Any help with this would be wonderful. As it stands right now my phone is very unreliable. It even hung up on my wife in the middle of a couple calls...
 
Update: after several failed attempts to re-flash to CM7, I finally got a different build of CM6 to run. So far it seems to be running stable on my phone. I have made a recovery file/backup of everything, and hopefully will not have to go through this again.
 
Ok, so today, I installed Cynagenmod 6, on to my Huawei Ascend phone(MetroPCS).. I like how you can customize it, and all that good stuff. But I am having a few problems. It deleted ALL of my contacts, for some reason :/ (thank God I just bought this phone, not even a week ago, so I didnt have a lot of contacts), and for some reason, it doesn't let me get on the Youtube app. When I click on it, it says "Could not launch the requested activity". Anyone knows why thats happening, or how to fix this? Also, I click on the app market icon, and it almost opens the window, but then it shuts back down. I also get a pop up, that says "the process android.process. media has stopped working unexpectedly", and it makes me Force Close. Why do I feel like I regret installing this? If anyone can help, please reply to this. Thanks.

I actually think that I installed the wrong one for some reason.. So I'm going to re try, with the correct one.. Also, my 1x signal, from MetroPCS, has disappeared?? I can't do anything now, if its not through WiFi. It has nothing to do w/ my bill, because its not due til in a week. This is stressing me out :/

UPDATE: Got the 1x back. Just had to remove the battery, for a couple seconds, then put it back on. Now, to worry about the G-apps.

When I go to facebook via the browser, it says at the bottom of the page "download the official facebook app for your Defy".

If you think that's odd,I got a Gmail (this past week) from GOOGLE/SAMSUNG congratulating me on my purchase of a NEXUS S.

I WISH :P
 
I know Isaac used some build info from the Nexus S when he ported CM7, so I'm guessing he used some info from the Defy for CM6.
 
heres my sitch...i really like cm6. i think its the best rom out there and i really wanna use it. but everytime i try to flash it with gapps, the setup wizard never manifests and i go straight to the home screen with 0 google apps. no market, market updater, google talk is missing. wth? does anybody no how to fix this. ive even tried flashing back to stock and re rooting and all that jazz to no avail. suggestions?


p.s. just noticed that the very first line rhymes...unintentional but very nice none the less.

redownload gapps for cm6. It COULD be a bad download? ;)
 
Try flashing the ROM, booting into the OS, then rebooting into CWM and flashing gapps. Make sure you have the proper gapps file for your ROM as well.
 
thanks for the help all. had a bad gapps download. got the right one and now all is well and im on cm6 and lovin it. its official...cm6 is the tits!!!! thanks pip for and awesome port. best one i used by far and ive used every single port or mod for the ascend. this one will be my home from now on.
 
I have a Huawei Ascend with MetroPCS.

I originally put CM6 on it, and while it was blindingly faster than the stock rom, it had some annoying bugs in it. I tried CM7, and that wouldn't even install correctly.

Today, I installed Icarus mod 1.1.
The phone's performance is pretty good, and the rom seems a lot more stable than CM6, however, it lacks a lot of features like speech to text. Is there a good "cooked" rom for 2.2 or 2.3?

Or is there are guide to installing 2,2 or 2.3 stock and optimizing it myself?

PS: The biggest bug with CM6 was an orientation problem. The phone would randomly get stuck in landscape. If there is a known fix for this, I might opt for CM6 again.

All help is greatly appreciated :)
 
To fix the orientation problem, go into settings, and check "lock home in memory" and set autorotation to only 90°… If I remember correctly, both are in CyanogenMod settings. Hope this helps. I haven't had that problem yet but I've read that this will fix it in several threads here.

I will try this if/when I go back to cm6. For now I want to try and get CM7 working.
 
I have been running cm6 with cricket service with zero trouble for quite a while now. But this week I have had the weirdest problem.
I am trying to run the google plus app. It gets to the point where it tries to logon and then tell me I have to try again when I have a working internet connection.
The weird part is that it does this on 3g and wifi. All others apps have no problem accessing internet. Have uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled and same results.

What should I try next?

If you got an invite & accepted,I'm puzzled as to why you can't log-on,all that is required for G+ MOBILE is 2.2,I believe.Any problems w/logging on G+ on your desktop/laptop?
BTW,it works for me on CM7 (build 07012011).
If all else fails,CM7 is an option.

googleplus works fine on regular puter it even works fine through the browser on the phone. it is just the app that fails.

it pops a standard looking alert message with the triangle that says No connection
then in the box underneath "This application requires a working Internet connection. Please enable your wireless connection or try later when you have better network coverage." if I touch the ok at bottom of message it kills the app.

it does this with four bars of 3g or on wifi at my house. no other apps have this problem. facebook, ebay, youtube. the google plus account is the same account i use for google voice and gmail and they all work.

does this app look for internet in some different way than everything else?

I'd send some feedback to GOOGLE on this.They'd appreciate any information you can provide to them to improve upon.
 
Ok, Iv'e got a prob, I had to reinstall cm6, and when I did, adw launcher was a system app. The first couple of times I had to reinstall, which was a couple of months ago, adw uninstalled and didn't interfere with golauncher being the default launcher. I froze it, uninstalled it, trying to get rid of it, but every time I did that, the phone would only go as far as the cyanogen mod screen! I don't want adw, it's inferior to golauncher, how do I put go launcher as a system app, so I can delete adw?
