Help [OFFICIAL SOLUTION] 3G issues on the 3D?

I never paid much attention to that with my Hero. I would probably not have even given it much thought but one of the reasons I upgraded is so when I have downtime waiting in my truck, I can watch HBO and Netflix. The few times I have tried HBO GO it was so bad it would just stop playing stating my connection was to slow. Should I always leave my GPS on for the best 3G signal?

HBO GO on 3g is a NO GO, lol. If the 3g speeds could stay steady over about 700kbs maybe, but they don't. I need 4g for hbo go or wifi.

This morning I'm getting some great speeds. Phone is averaging over 1 mb/s d/l and almost hit 2 mb/s on one of the test.

Mine says 9.80 Mbps download and 0.94Mps upload and 24 ping is that good? I had it on Kbps then changed it to Mbps. I love this phone so much..

My speed test says ping 21ms download 9932kbs and upload 960kbs and that is at home on wifi 3G was off. Is that good? I know you can view kbps mbps and KB/s which is the best setting to keep it on? Does it matter? I only get one bar here sitting at my desk so I doubt I can test it on 3G. No it wont find a server oh well I'll try it outside when I leave for work on 3G.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond to your wifi speed question the other day.

As mentioned, that's very good, and no, reporting in kbps vs. Mbps makes no difference.

It was on wifi I don't get good signal in my house to try 3G. But I just wondered if it was good. Cause my friend downloads these 4 radio shows online and the day we got our phones he was downloading them on my wifi and he said wow there already done if I was home with my EVO it would still be downloading the 1st one. So this phone really does ROCK!

QUOTE=sikclown;2885889]You must be on 4g or WiFi. That is great 4g if that is what you are on, especially the ping![/QUOTE]

I went to take my 3vo in for the RF test yesterday, to check to see if I have the same radio problem EarlyMon has. And the guy just tells me "its a known issue"

"Don't you have some sort of equipment that can verify it is the known issue?"

"It's a known issue"

So I call Sprint tech. But, seeing how I don't have a second phone, he recommends I go to a different repair center, because all repair centers have this equipment. I asked if it was a "known issue" and the guy said he never even heard of the issue. So, apparently, not so known. Hopefully the repair center I go to today will, at least, test the unit. In the meantime, I think I'm going to try to hard reset the unit. Is the best way to hard reset something through the bootloader or through the Factory data reset option in the SD & phone storage menu?

The Sprint rep I worked with insisted that for this problem, the Factory Reset might or might not be adequate, so she advised that I do the ##786# hard reset. Requires MSL code - so you have to call to get that or use CDMA Workshop (link in post 2 of the Streaming media and the Tyranny of the Sprint Proxies thread).

Not sure how that compares to the bootloader reset.

Just tried the bootloader and all it did was give me an exclamation mark. I pushed every button, and nothing brought up any text. On my X, it was the volume rocker.

But dialing that and doing a hard reset seems to be much easier. I already have my MSL :)

novox77 has a how-to guide to get to the bootloader in the Root subforum, fwiw.

But yeah, if you have your MSL, just use that.

I see instructions on how to get into the bootloader, but I do not see how to hard reset via the bootloader. And the hard reset failed to fix the issue :(

I bought my 3d from wirefly (an online store) and apparently i got one of the defective ones because of the horrible 3g speed and it also seemed to get super hot after any use. I went to the sprint store which ended up being worthless considering they had some young kid look at it for a minute tap a few buttons and say it was probably broken and i should send it back which i ended up doing. Heres my question if these clowns send me another defective phone what do i do can i exchange it at a corporate sprint store if i have it tested this time and the rf is defective or do i have to keep getting replacements from the same place?

Welcome to the forums!

I asked the same thing at my Sprint store - they said it comes down to where you bought it, if you're looking to replace within 30 days you have to go to where you bought it, and where you have insured thru thereafter.

So, after 30 days, if you're insured thru Sprint, Sprint will handle it.

From what I've learned today:

Sprint Corporate (repair) stores will test a unit, even if they can't replace it because you purchased it through somewhere else. Non-corporate stores are likely to give you the run-around (I'm 0-2 with non-corporate stores). But, from talking to a manager at a corporate store (unfortunately, not a repair shop), any Sprint repair center will test your phone if you ask them to.

So the saga continues. I'm taking my DX to work with me and running wifi analyzer on both to see if it's my 3vo's wifi antenna, because 3g was working acceptably in the corporate store just a few mins ago. /sigh

thanks i guess ill just see if the next phone they send me is good otherwise i guess im screwed considering im pretty sure i dont have insurance or anything like that for it

FOREHEAD SLAP

That's another thing that hadn't occurred to Mr. Wifi Analyzer! :p :D

My 3vo vs Evo - the 3vo is showing slightly higher wifi sensitivity, by a couple of dBm, but it's there.

It's got a 10 dBm higher sensitivity to one of my neighbor's wifi signals - and unlike the Evo - anything below -90 dBm, it filters out.

AGREED

my wifi is slightly more sensative than my evo was in spots where i was certain they wouldnt change signal for more than a very small time

its benefit though from having better wifi is with the 3g issues being so crappy that on wifi (work , home ) atleast im getting some speed.

any update on a fix with this btw?

theres time where 3g wont turn on period and im just standing there waiting

if this continues im complaining to sprint.. im paying 20 dollars on both my lines extra for these speeds? no give me my money

I have the same 3G speed issues. I'm getting like 20Kbps download speeds. Called Sprint customer service to get the phone hard reset, re-provisioned, etc... To make a long story short, I wasted an hour of my time to be told:
1)There's a bad tower in your area. When I explained that I was having the same issues in a totally different town, the lady told me to hold on and then I got transferred to another tech support rep somehow that I had to explain the whole thing over again.
2) The new rep proceeds to tell me to do the same thing the lady had me do, puts me on hold and comes back and says hes found the issue. He proceeds to tell me that I have a 4G phone and that 4G isn't offered in my area, and that's why its slow, because 3G is 10 times slower than 4G. I then have to explain that, yes I understand that 4G is faster than 3G, BUT my 3G speeds are like almost 100 times slower than what they should be.
3) They give me a e-ticket number and tell me to take it to the sprint store to have tests ran on it.

I should of known I was going to get this when I called. I always get the dumbest tech support reps on the planet!
