Can I ask?

Why do people choose networks like orange, t-mobile etc?

Now obviously there are exceptions, but in general O2 / Vodafone signal seems to be much much better.

In terms of speeds, it is clear T-Mobile lags behind due to capping.

And I have personally never found them to be any cheaper than O2 / Vodafone.

Plus 3 and GiffGaff are the new very cheap networks.

Orange UK - Hedingham, Essex

0.04 DOWN & 0.03 UP (My speed is crap)

I went with t-mob as they were the only ones who can get me a signal in certain places where I spend some of my time.

So it's a compromise, an average signal everywhere I go on T-Mob or go with someone else to get a great signal in some places but no signal in others.

4.06 Meg Down
1.57 Meg Up
Ping 106

o2 - Dudley, West Mids

I have to say I think my speeds when I'm using the phone are good, but even though my peak downloads are fast I sometimes get issues where I'm waiting around for pages to start loading. Once they start they load in a snap, but it's the waiting for them to start that lowers the overall speed of the experience.

I don't think download speeds alone can be used to judge QoS.

and 3.9m down and 1.6m up over h/3g

Absolutely agree.

I was having a similar problem recently on 3 network where it was as though the connection became unresponsive for 5 or 10 seconds then suddenly came to life. Once the connection responded it was fast (I get up to 6meg down on speed tests).

Changing the APN from three.co.uk to 3internet fixed the problem here.

The three.co.uk APN goes through their content filtering / transparent proxy server / NAT firewall systems, while the 3internet APN is more or less a direct connection with a public IP address and no filtering.

The 3internet APN is the one used on the 3 mobile broadband.

I don't know if o2 use a different APN for their mobile broadband dongles that may work on your handset but without the lag?

hi,

i like the sound of that :) thanks

Try mobile.o2.co.uk with O2web as user and pass

Wap is the second one for mms

Apn list should be:

CAP201107010703.jpg

See how mms is not selectable?

The mobile one looks like:

CAP201107010705.jpg

Where type is "default, supl" then mms is like:

It all depends where the exceptions are - I live in a Vodafone blackspot (as in Vodafone users lose signal completely when they step through to door), so to me it's irrelevant how good they might be elsewhere.

How do you change the APN to 3internet mate?

If I go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names I only have the one option of three.co.uk?

Got mine through MPD on T Mobile and they capped my speeds I had to ring them and get put on T Mobiles web and walk plus which they don't cap and you get 3gb.

Don't think you'll be able to be put on it now as they changed their terms, unless you pay the extra for W&W+ they're not putting everyone with an Android phone on it as default anymore.

T Mobile

2.3Mbps down
0.34Mbps up

Bedford

Thanks for the reply.

I have never had higher than 367kbps even with the 'H' connection. I have called T-Mobile numerous times and they don't know why, they have tried to reset it but its always the same and because its a massive ordeal trying to get the right department or someone who understands I have just given up.

I think its because I bought the phone from Mobilephonesdirect and not T-Mobile. I pay

I am on orange but I have got a giffgaff SIM i ordered a few weeks ago and as soon as im finished with orange in 6 months im going on GiffGaff. Can you tell me, what is the 3G coverage like on GiffGaff (O2) because I have heard its not good

I've set up another APN with those details (as mine is also wap) but how do you opt to use the APN you set? There was only the WAP entry on my APN list when I went into it, now there's my O2Web one as well, but much like your screenshot, I have no option to select it now that I've created it.

The apn type for mms, needs to be "mms" which makes it unselectable.

The apn type for web should be "default, supl" which should make.it selectable.
