Has anyone tried to install a new RADIO or a new ROM after updating with the official ROM? I tried a few times to install a new recovery image and a new ROM but was unsuccessful at it.
Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.

Not sure what exactly you are doing, but I have read somewhere that Rogers ROM will replace whatever recovery you have there with their own as soon as you boot to ROM.Has anyone tried to install a new RADIO or a new ROM after updating with the official ROM? Yes... and no dice. This update doesn't work with any of the old methods.
I think the only way we'll be able to install a new ROM is if someone were to make a .NBH file like Rogers/HTC did, and force it to fastboot with it on the SD card.
There's a link around here that shows where to download 2 zips of the official update that can be applied via SD card (good for non XP users or don't want to change your USB driver). But that doesn't help you root afterward. If you've already updated then you're likely out of luck with getting root back for a while. Best for rooters is to stay on 1.6 and then get your data reset.
I don't want to encourage this and I take no responsibility if anybody bricks, but here is what I would do:
I would follow this xda-developers - View Single Post - Rogers, heres your real root with only one difference, I would put all three files on SD card beforehand and once I start I would NOT boot to Rogers ROM again.
So I would root, replace recovery and replace ROM all in one shot.
I can't confirm if this would work, since I'm not willing to apply Rogers "update".
Unfortunately that won't work. Any remote fastboot commands get denied.
With the previous OS (and I'm speaking mostly for the Dream, at the moment, because I was able to root a Magic w/o any troubles.) you needed to install that Flash Recovery app and it would work. (Step 3 of that post you linked to.) It was a KEY step.
I installed it and the recovery flash app didn't work.
However I haggled Rogers into giving me the Magic upgrade even though I wasn't eligible for it. (I threatened to cancel, which btw, I was sooooo ready to do).
I'll have to stay on their backs to make sure it gets delivered to me once they have stock but once I have a backup phone, I'm going to mess around more with this current one. I'm sure someone at xda will beat me to it though!![]()
Took me 3 calls and 3 different reps at Rogers this morning just to finally hear about the data being turned off on a recorded hold message. None of the reps knew what was going on.
Thankfully I've gotten up to speed with the issue from the forums here (not surprisingly more helpful then customer server) as I am at work at can't wait on hold for who-knows-how-long for tech support.
My question is does anyone know of an app I can download to my computer to back up my phone (apps, sms, etc) since I can't access the Android Market with my data turned off?
As far as i know there is not yet a way to do this (unless possibly with a rooted phone). You will have to access the marketplace via WiFi and download G-backup or Astro File Manager.
So much for the whole open software thing, if you don't use Rogers-approved os, you're banned from their network.
Liz from "Rogers' Office of the President" made it very clear that non-Rogers roms would not be able to access the Rogers network. I tried explaining that the 911 bug didn't apply to my phone but she would hear nothing of it, preferring to give be canned responses.
The lesson here is Lie and tell them you have an iPhone, people have been having success with that.
Rogers is roaring its ugly head again!
Just got SMS. It's in French, but what I can see the history is about to repeat itself?
Anybody got it again???
Windows 7 64bit user here,
As we all know Rogers initiated the data cut-off without having any real support or plan for anyone not using old Windows versions or any real Win7 x64 HTC sync support. As we also know, they will send you an SD card through snailmail (I requested mine the first morning they were made available afaik and I have yet to receive it) which you can use to update the OS and re-enable data usage.
However my question is for anyone who has received the SD card or can offer some insight: Does it include HTC Sense UI?
I should hope it does because I have no other desire to update it if solely for that. I obviously vehemently disagree with having my data cut off (as should anyone in their right mind) but I can manage. I will however be incredibly upset if it will just update the OS (wiping my data at the same time) allowing Rogers to re-enable my data, then cause me to have to wait for some actual Windows 7 support and Sense UI to be released online(once again wiping my phone's data installing that). My Conclusions/predictions being based on the self-SD card update posted earlier in this thread, which does NOT contain SenseUI.
The update with no Sense UI is for the Dream the update with Sense UI is for the magic and yes you can update with windows 7 just read back a bit in the forum.
According to the post, the self SD card manner of updating does not include SenseUI for either Dream or Magic. The drivers for 64 bit windows 7 are not readily/officially available and will cause the HTC Sync install to error. I've heard (from when I attempted to root my phone) that the proper ADB drivers can be obtained from the Vista 64 bit files, however windows update will not allow me to install them.
then stop trying to root the phone. not a good time for that. You see, I'm not terribly technologically inclined and nor should I have to be.
That's why you should do the SD method. Get it done and get your data access back. You then will have over the air (OTA) update capability and I'll wager that you'll get the next update with Sense on it. whenever that happens.
oh, then stop trying to root the phone. not a good time for that.
