Root Custom MTD

ginga, is there any chance you can try the mountdl script? just to see if it works?
also, what is the system size for miui xj? ive forgotten.
 
The script isnt even essential. But with small cache you cannot download anything on the market thats bigger than the cache. The script just rules out the need for a cache partition - however, I cannot get it to work with cache smaller than 3MB so thats the size.

Seriously, flashing 1 more zip in recovery is not a big deal. If you forget to flash it you get a boot loop. Boot back into recovery and flash the patch and all is fixed. The extra space acquired by not wasting space is phenominal. I have well over 100 apps, I have 170 MB free and NO EXT partition. Its great. Means I can maximise tunes on my SD card. Win/win/win situation, all for the price of flashing a zip that takes 3 seconds after flashing the rom.
 
Well since you put it like that I might give it a go after all. But I wont be doing anything until next week. I have a busy schedule this week but I'll have enough time to read up on stuff to understand it better...
 
Ginga, I just found this for miui over at miuiandroid, worth trying out and it works with 5mb cache.

Unzip a copy of the Rom on your pc. The size of the extracted folder is around the size the Rom is. Maybe add a few MB

i saw that and wanted to abuse him for making it. very dangerous game to be doing it via recovery, that and the added fact the man started panicking cos he doesnt know how to make edify scripts and sign them and refers to it as "cwm3 compatible"
stay well away from those, i will smirk at you if you flash and brick
 
I was looking at it on my phone and assumed it was a script for the cache like mountdl, so I take it that its not?

no its for s-off users to flash hboot via recovery

dunno why people need this when alpharev already supply pb99img which uses the bootloader (stable)
 
I just looked at it.. it has mountdl in the system/init.d file. I dont know if its worth flashing though... My recovery might not play nice with it

Difference is this zip has been tailored made for MIUI plus it has mount.dl that fixes market cache issues...

no, im not referring to that, im refering to the link from suroot

that one for miui is just the 06mountdl script
it says cm7 as its the only way you would get miui to work on cm7 as cm7 table has 5mb cache

Well if I get the chance to play ill flash hboot using a table, then try the mountdl script, if it doesn't work u can restore my redux into the new table and go from there, its just if I get time and if the misses starts nagging!
Anyone else get "your pissing phone is more important than me, blah blah blah" lol.

no cos if she did that to me i would take over the tv and tell her to stfu.
if my mrs complains i dont spend enough time with her i make her aware she doesnt give me reason to "enough" hahahaha. she soon pipes down

Ahhh ok my bad.. Yeah I know I have to fastboot flash old cm7 hboot then flash this mod...

yeah I know its bloody time consuming! I dont want to do it now as Im preparing for a wedding coming up this weekend so I'll probably try it sometime early next week. Let me know how you get on

i dont as they were uploaded by SUroot and alpharev had removed them from their site :/ i dont understand why they didnt update all versions
 
Ive been chatting to some guy on MIUIandroid forum apparantly that mod has been working like a charm for past 2 months.. I feel abit more confident enough in giving this a go now
