Root GB miui 2.3.5

I'm going to be away in France next week and want to ensure that data roaming is turned off. What is the best way to turn off data using the MIUI ROM?

Menu>Settings>System>Cellular Network settings and flick the Data Roaming switch to off.
 
Loaded this up the other day but I wasn't too keen on it. I think it was the lack of app drawer and the orange and white theme...

Oh, and the lack of scrollable widgets.

Yet I get the nagging feeling I should give it another go...

Just use a different launcher, the only thing I don't like about MIUI is the launcher, I've used Zeam now for about 10 months, so thats my recommendation, or just put all the apps into a folder, either way MIUI is definitely worth a play with. Oh and the orange and white theme you say? Theming is what MIUI is all about for me, there's themes aplenty, if you need pointers just ask.
 
Hmmm maybe should have looked into it more... could give it another bash with a different Launcher... might be a job for the weekend.
 
How many of you hate having clock on the top right corner of your phone? Well you can do something about it now! there is a zip available on miuiandroid which not only allows you to remove the clock it also gives you an option to turn off battery and USB debugging notification.. Ive been using this for past 2 updates it works like a treat!

Can miui do white on black for contacts, sms etc? How small did you get it in the end.

Also, what cool stuff would you recommend for XJ?

I got it down to just under 100mb now.. Im sure I can strip it down further but I dont know what else to delete :confused:

There are few themes flying around on MIUI based on dark/light themes. Dark theme wil ahve pretty much everything in black on white and light theme white on black. I have dark theme running on mine have a look at my screenshots here:

I dont have a screenhot for sms and contacts on there but they are black aswell.. If you're feeling that theme I can point you in the right direction.

As for cool stuff XJ has an app on his rom wich allows you to update his rom without having to go to recovery and more essentially you dont lose any apps and settings! so you dont need to back up anything I find that very handy! This app is called "System updater" Ive used it for the past 6 updates now.. Other cool thing is having the option to mix and match different themes for example if you look at my statusbar and dailer (screenshots) they are from a different theme. Same applies to lockscreens, fonts, icons, even bootanimations n so on! The reason why its easy to mix and mitch is down to the mtz file MIUI uses instead of zip files so you never have to flash anything. Furthermore you can fiddle around with those mtz files using 7zip and add/remove as you see fit! customisation is endless on MIUI.. See for yourself ;-)
 
Forgot to add you can add external mods from devs on MIUIandroid. One guy made an extended setting mod wich gievs you an option to remove/add clock, battery, usb debug notification and carrier name. Its a pretty cool feature to have! Check my post 231" few posts up its all there!

Best thing of all MIUI gets updated every Friday so we are constantly spoiled! For some updating might seem like a chore but XJ's system updater has changed all that!

BTW are you a fan of overscroll glows? Personally I hated it so much I got rid of it completely on MIUI. 7zips rock!
 
I like glow yeah...

Just got the system folder on the PC down to 83MB or just under. Which should hopefully be the size on the phone once flashed, however thats assuming it boots. Zip is 53MB
 
Did you whittle down the size of XJ MIUI rom or are you refering to redux rom? If MIUI.. how!!?? I got mine down to 99mb but since im not tech savvy in this dept perhaps you could shed some light on what you ommited from the rom??
 
XJ yeah. Lets see if it boots yet....

Got rid of bash, busybox.a2sd, some fonts some media and stuff... But I dont know if it will boot yet so details later
 
Cool.. I did wonder if it was worth removing fonts I dont use? Which basic fonts did you leave behind? I got rid of lockscreen/wallpapers in media ages ago but I forgot to do ringtones and notifications.. I'll do it now...
 
I just took the biggest one out tbh. I tried to remove some fonts on redux and got a bootloop so not sure how much can be removed.

It does boot by the way. I removed everything in bin or xbin that had a2sd or apps2sd in the title.

removed all tts>lang_pico except I created a text file and named it en-GB_ta.bin just as a palce holder. I also did this in system/media/gadget (dont plan on using the gadgets), Photo and wallpaper

Hmm would be interesting to see what you think of MIUI su! Thought it wasn't something you would be interested in :p
 
It's the launcher I'm not interested in but want to try some of the other features. Although had some issues. Home wouldn't work, contacts force closed. Back on redux for now

Huh!!? Impossible! Which version did you download? Y dont you try v1.7.1? I am using that at the moment and its pretty stable!
