Root [ROM] GB-CMod7-Beta

I wasn't trying to be a dick, but if someone isn't willing to read but is willing to offer advise that is what they get.

If they just read my post and used a little comprehension they would have realized my question was beyond their scope of expertise.

The alternate perspective you might consider is this: While they may not have been able to answer your question, they also saw an opportunity to learn based on what you said, so they had their own question. Generally it's advisable on these forums to not lash out at people unless it's so very obviously needed (i.e., if someone else starts the lashing and you're reminding them such things are unacceptable). He showed no disrespect or aggression toward you. An alternate answer that would have avoided unnecessary conflict might have been something like this:

"Sleep mode is, according to this site (Android Sleep/Standby Mode - Stack Overflow), when the CPU and other ancillary radios such as WiFi or GPS shut off. That link also clarifies how the screen turning off does not equate sleep mode, although the phone may go into sleep mode shortly after the screen turns off. My screen timeout settings are <whatever they are>."

Such an answer would have been far more amicable toward a person who was only trying to help, and anyone else who thought they had information to offer would have still replied to you. Plus, the tidbit about sleep mode would have answered a question that probably many were unwilling to ask, out of fear of the very kind of response you provided.

I don't have a direct answer to your question, but hunting around to learn what sleep mode was made me curious, so I downloaded CPU spy. Is that what you used to determine that your phone never sleeps?

Yes. I made a nand backup and flashed over to sense rom. Cpu spends 99% of it's time in deep sleep with sense rom, I believe it did with CM7 at first too, that's why I got decent battery life. Then something happened and it wouldn't use sleep any more. I uninstalled all the most recent programs, made all the programs that stayed installed not be able to auto-run and still no sleep mode. Even switched to a different cpu clocking program to no avail.

I think whatever is causing this is why some people are having bad batt life with CM7 and others like reppard don't notice a difference.

I tried the three mods I found on here.. Jeremy's was good, TeamChicken was ok, Cyanogen is AMAZING! I mean this is EXACTLY what I wanted, and talk about amazing customization! THANK YOU! Few TINY issues but otherwise amazing. I have a few questions though, the intro screen with the android was AMAZING, but after I wiped all my data and installed the MMS fix it's gone? :( Is there any way to restore that?

Thanks all :D
Ash

Have you tried going into adb shell and running a "dumpsys power" command? Toward the bottom of the output it'll have "mLocks.size = #", where # is how many wakelocks there are. Below that, it'll specify what they are. It'll say 0 of course if there are none. I've also found you can run that report repeatedly and witness intermittent wakelocks.

*wakelock = system or app setting that prevents the phone from going into sleep mode.

Hey guys, okay so twice now after installing cyanogen my phone refuses to start WHEN I RESTORE my system data using Titanuim Backup. Soooo... I am wondering how I can go about restoring my contacts ONLY since that is all I really care about right? I mean it's a brand new phone for me, is there anything else I need?

Thanks,
Ash

It seems like it's still on but the screen wont react when I hit the power button again.. Also it seems like it does the same thing when I let the phone fall asleep by itself :( Help?

did you make a nand backup of the stock rom with all your contacts on it?
If you did, restore it, download Go Contacts, back up all your contacts to the SD card, flash the CM ROM and use the app to restore them.

This is what I did.

I just used Titanium to only restore the contacts and wiped the rest of the backup and make a whole new backup.. hopefully this will work.

Just for future reference, Contacts are stored serverside by Google. Once you login to your phone, they are automatically downloaded back onto the phone. There is no need to restore system data for this purpose. There are some safe-to-restore elements though, just not all of them as a whole.

Your screen issue might stem from not turning off the animations settings. I don't have the ROM so I can't direct you, but it's in there somewhere. Otherwise if you got a new screen protector, make sure it has a hole cut out for the proximity sensor on the face.

I turned off the animation settings :( And also don't have a cover

Oh, so I don't know what was going on but sometimes it takes up to thirty seconds or so for my screen to popup.. I think it's lagging hardcore for some reason. idk. Either way I still love it.

I could be wrong on this one since we're talking CM7 (which I've barely messed with) and not a modified stock rom, but typically non-stock boot animations are stored in the form of an uncompressed zip file named "bootanimation.zip", and stored in /system/media or /data/local. Check those two locations in root explorer or whichever file manager you're using and see if such a file is present. If not, it probably got zapped on your wipe. However, you don't even need to flash something like that. Just go into the zipped copy of the CM7 ROM that you have and go to either of the same locations, and it should be there. Copy the bootanimation.zip that you find and paste it back into the same directory on your phone that you found it in in the ROM zip.

Then again, I could be wrong, but that's how it's worked for me on other roms.

Turns out I replaced the animation setting when I use Titanbackup to restore all system data/apps. Fixed now, everyone warned about backing up but I didn't think there would be dangers in restoring too >.<

Thank you for the excellent rom. This is my first android phone and coming from Maemo it's better than I expected. Only two things I hope for next release: no auto screen rotation and working VPN. Not sure if its just me but I can't get any type of vpn to work.

Due to finding this forum and too excited in flashing the rom I forgot to make a nand flash, so probably can't return this phone and will endure another month of metro pcs 56k data speed. Though it's a good phone so I'll keep it.

The only dangers in restoring come from using a restoration that has older data--i.e., the real danger was in the fact that you didn't backup the newest data. lol. No worries, pretty sure we've all done it.

I hope for next release: no auto screen rotation

You can turn that off if you don't like it. From your home screen, press Menu, choose Settings, and then on the Settings menu, tap Display. On the Display menu, you'll see an option for Auto-rotate screen, and you'll see that you can uncheck it or check it depending on your preference. Turning it off will make everything stay in its default orientation, which is typically vertical.

Oh drat, I keep talking from outside the context of CM7. Well, try it anyway and see what happens lol.

I'm using CM7 and all of a sudden I go into app2sd try to move an app that can be moved to SD natively, and it says there's no space left. Mg SD card has 740 MB free. Tried multiple apps.

Have you gotten any errors from the Market or AppStore trying to install apps that install to SD by default?

Also if you do want to go back to a 2.2.1 rom you can flash stock rom just like you did the cm7 just choose which you want I like the teamchickeneater myself, a very stock like rom I would guess if you did take it back the store would think it was stock only a very knowledgeable person looking very closely through the files would find its not. Other then being rooted of course.

This hasn't been mentioned before but did anyone else notice that car home doesn't work. I think it is because of the gps issue.

you have to tap the screen once, I thought this was a problem too, but press any hard button, then tap the screen and it'll turn on.

Damn, I actually loved CyanoGen but reflashed to the TeamChicken mod or whatever because of the screen issue.. It was driving me nuts. Is there any way to change that if I go back to Cyano? Also I don't know about other peoples phones but my phone was kinda laggy :( Kept taking like 2-3 seconds to respond to some things.. I don't know why.
