Worth Upgrading From HTC Incredible?

I upgraded from an Incredible, and even when my area was 3G only, it was worth the upgrade. Larger screen, snappier performance. In 3G mode, the standard battery blows away the Incredible's extended battery (almost 2X the life for me, identical usage).

while i am not sure about the anti-aliasing, the pixel density refers to the fact it doesnt have a qHD or retina screen. And some people feel the plastic its made of is kind of cheap.
 
Thats one thing I like about the Incredible; it has a solid feel to it.

Anyone heard about the HTC Vigor?

If you though the incredible was solid, check out the thunderbolt. Actually incredible had the same complaint when it came out about cheap materials, so if the incredible materials are ok for you, samsung should be just fine.
 
Kind of leaning towards the Vigor at this point.

Yeah I was waiting for the dual core LTE phones myself until my incredible died. My wife is due for an upgrade in a year, but I was thinking about getting her a slider for christmas, and just paying out of pocket. So I may just use that upgrade for myself at that point, as there will most certainly be an awesome phone out by that point.
 
As with any upgrade, the longer you wait the "better" phone you will get. It seems like every piece of upcoming technology is lauded over, then it comes out and gets hammered in one way or another. I love the Thunderbolt, and I'm sure in a few months there will be "better" phones with "better" battery life, "nicer" screens and so forth, but I'm not paying $600 for it. I'll use mine until I can upgrade at a discount, then get an even better phone at that point. I had a LG Chocolate Touch before the Thunderbolt, so if you know what a hunk of junk that was then you know how happy I am now!
 
Found out yesterday Verizon only does $50 on the next upgrade and then nothing the next go around.

True, but there are phases that seem to occur that appear to be worth waiting for. For example, the next phase should be where dual core becomes the norm.

I upgraded from an Incredible to Thunderbolt back in April. I bought the Thunderbolt on eBay for $400 & sold the Incredible for $200, so net I only paid $200, same price as getting an upgrade through Verizon. I wasn't due an upgrade till Nov this year, so that was the only way.
Is it worth it? IMHO it is... the 4G alone is worth the upgrade! The 4.3" screen is awesome.
I'm running Das BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4.9 Custom ROM www.teambamf.net so I've got Sense 3.0 & Gingerbread... it's awesome!
I'm overclocked to 1.4ghz, screen on Auto Display Brightness, 4G all day, with moderate use, I get 17-19hrs of use on the stock battery.
The Samsung Galaxy 2 might be worth taking a look at, but the Sense UI is what's got me, I don't know if I'd buy another non HTC phone.

Yes, service is thru Verizon. I believe the Thunderbolt only works on Verizon.

with the custom Das BAMF ROM - you're still using Sense just like your stock phone. The custom ROM just removes all the bloatware Verizon puts on the phone that you can't remove if you're not rooted. It's also optimized for better performance & battery life. For the brave ones that want cutting edge technology/software, you can always test all the new ROMS out there to see which you prefer, however, the Team BAMF ROMs are pretty complete ROMs.

advantage - not locked into a 2 year contract. You can change phones whenever you want & not have to wait for the 2 yrs upgrade. You can always get the latest greatest.

disadvantage - you'll be paying full price typically around $400-$500+, but if you sell your old phone it'll offset the price. You can't take it in to Verizon for warranty if something breaks.
 
i went from an Incredible to a Thunderbolt. My speaker on the incredible blew 7 times, so after 7 replacements in just a few months, i finally just upgraded.

4g is available about 10 miles south of me so i know it won't be long before its here. The speed is incredible. I regularly test 4g at 15-25mb down.
I dont like the size of the Thunderbolt or the battery life, but thats about it.

I looked at the droid charge and the iphone 4 but i dont like samsungs menu layout. I liked the UI of the Incredible so i stuck with it. And the iphone doesnt have 4g so thats a no go.

Tbolt is good but i guess im just an average user. I dont do anything advanced with my phone
 
To be fair, 90% of the things on that list have been resolved by updates or the stabilization of the LTE network.

Doing some research for a pal interested in the TB.

Does any of the power management apps like Greenpower alleviate he battery issues?

I know that my EVO lasts through the entire day with room to spare once I put Greenpower on to check the mail on a schedule vs. push.

My bigger fear is the 4G back to 3G handoff issue which is starting to come out in the media more & more. Any comments there?

I rushed out and upgraded to a Thunderbolt when Verizon started making noise about tiered data. Turns out I could've waited and stuck with my Incredible and not lost my unlimited data. Oh well.

I love the speed of the TB, but otherwise, I kinda prefer the Incredible. I kept it as a wifi device, and I mostly use it still when I'm at home. It runs Netflix way better, battery life is way better, and the screen is easier on my eyes. I will almost certainly trade in my TB for the Vigor when it comes out, but I'm keeping the DInc until it dies. That was a special phone.
 
I have not messed with battery management or task killer tools ever. You can set your mail to update on a time line without that stuff. I have not even been in a 4G area yet, So can't answer the 4G-3G handoff, sorry. With 3G battery life slightly worse than my incredible (to be fair I had Touch Pro 2 battery in Incredible, which is bigger than one in Thunderbolt, plus TB has bigger screen), I imagine 4G battery life is dismal.

I also loved my incredible, and agree, streaming apps (Pandora, Netflix) started up much quicker on my incredible for some reason. That is honestly the one thing I have noticed between the two. As far as the screen, at first I was majorly disappointed with the TB screen, until I took off the crappy Verizon screen protector, and installed a zagg invisibleshield. Turns out the problem was the screen protector, not the screen. Not sure what your setup is untitled, but stay away from the anti-glare crap that verizon sells.
