They sent me the same reply from US HTC today. when I told them this would keep me from buying another HTC phone they replied "we're sorry.... we understand"..... screw 'em.

One of the e-mails from a "HTC" rep today seemed to originate in the US, and was more detailed in the phones that would get the update.

OK, here is the response I got to my letter to HTC today. Seems much more in tune with reality and not some sort of troll fake, meaning that it says nothing.... Guess we are at square one again!

Dear MolBasser,

I understand the importance of having the latest software for your HTC Incredible. At this time, we do not have any information on if or when the HTC Incredible will be receiving the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update. Please keep in touch with our social media at www.facebook.com/htc and www.twitter.com/htc. I do apologize for any inconvenience.

To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number Blahetceteranumberhere.

Sincerely,

Jeffery

My response (fruitless, I know.....)

Thank you for responding to my mail. I understand that you may be under contractual obligations to send a mail that says essentially nothing, but I cannot help but be disappointed by this response.

It is a very simple question that HTC obviously knows the answer to at this point. Either the phone will get the upgrade, or it won't.

I do not understand why HTC would treat their customers this way, as it makes them (me) far more reluctant to purchase another HTC product if I cannot get a simple answer to a simple question.

The answer is not the issue. If the answer is no, the Incredible will not get the update, that is fine. I can get on with my life. If the answer is yes, at some point it will get the update, that is fine, as I can stop further speculation and just wait for it.

At any rate, I know it is not the fault of the representative charged with the duty of sending out fluff form letter responses to serious consumer concerns. I only wish that you would relay to your superiors that this is a very poor way of doing business. Thank you for your time.

Yeah, that part was especially annoying.

Update or not HTC is rapidly losing a customer. I still have over a year on my Dinc contract, but my wife is due an upgrade to a smart phone in a couple of months. HTC is gonna really have to kiss my ass to make me buy one of their products, they aren't all that better than the competition, and my wife is like a billionth of the geek that I am, so she will be satisfied with a shiny case and big screen..... (Just kidding, but she isn't a geek and so will take a "lesser" phone and not notice the difference).

MolBasser

And to the posters saying that we don't have a right to demand an update....

1. Correct we bought a product. We got a product.
2. Product support buys a company loyalty.
3. Loyalty sells more product.

So, in conclusion, while HTC is not "obligated" to update the Dinc, they are goddamn business fools not to.

It was interesting to read Molbassers Letter from HTC. I received the following response to my inquiry:

Dear xxx xxxxx,

I understand that you are inquiry about a Gingerbread Android 2.3 update for the HTC Incredible. I know the importance in having the most recent updates for your device.

Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier

Just a canned email. They probably get thousands of emails asking when their phone will get so and so update.

No offense, my friend. I have big respect for your posting in general but I completely disagree here.

HTC and Verizon are giving us a second update. They promised us nothing and people are again getting mad at them for taking their time. This is despite the fact our phone understandably NOT FIRST IN LINE.

Until HTC or Verizon come out and officially announce something, do NOT read into the form HTC emails nor the speculating articles written based on the reported emails.

Folks, be patient. Update will come. We are 5 months or so EOL and yet they have worked to update our phones.

Autobot central at HTC. I'm sure that it is a key word recognizer form letter generator.

Dear MolBasser,

Thank you for your response.

I apologize that we do not have more information to provide you regarding an update to Gingerbread Android 2.3 for the HTC Incredible. I would be more than happy to pass your feedback along to the appropriate parties so that it can be heard.

Please keep watch on our website at: www.htc.com/us along with our Facebook and Twitter social pages for more information once it becomes available. I apologize once again for any inconvenience you may have experienced.

You misunderstand my anger. I'm not angry about not getting the update. I'm angry at the way they distribute information.

If they don't want to update the phone, just freaking say so. How hard is that. The phone is already EOL. Can you buy one now in the verizon store?

My black helicopter opinion is that they had some issues, then decided to just bail on it and hope that everyone would buy a new phone.

Well, I have over a year on my contract, and I will just root and even have go from there if I have to. I would just like some honesty from my providers, most particularly with HTC. I expect Verizon to be bastards.

I will be looking extremely hard at other products for my wife's phone. Not because I'm pissed that I did/didn't get an update, is that I was so completely disrespected as a consumer that they could not be honest with me.

I couldn't agree more here. As a company it would make more sense to say "sorry, we couldn't make it work", "we are still trying to make things work", or something along those lines. I have received 2 emails stating incredible was not on the list and now molbasser gets "nothing to say". it is extremely frustrating going around and around..... my upgrade isn't due until July next year.... it won't be an HTC though.

This part I totally agree, I still have a year left on my contract, actually a little less, but anyway, they just can't say a firm "yes" or "no". The phones been EOL since March, but HTC cant be honest as proven from my last few emails, and your email. Try sounding out "yes" and "no". How hard is it to say the damn word?

Hello this is Evan from Verizon Wireless NRB,

Everyone please rest assure that the update is on its way. I will be providing an official report on Friday after our meeting.

Thank you,
Evan

They can't just post a calander on their website with tenative dates? Those dates will get pushed back, but that's still far better than the current system.

Nice. But since you have no "official" capacity, I will take it with a grain of salt.

MolBasser

I'll see you in the meeting Evan. Looking forward to it. Does anyone here have any notes for me to take to this "meeting" that I can address with evan?

Folks. Updates sadly get pushed back many times. I do not know of any company that gives firm dates because of this fact.

What is fact is that incredible was the first update to froyo that didn't need a patch or to be restarted multiple times(from any carrier or manufacturer)

The form emails are very poor but they have no control on updates at HTC. Verizon makes it policy not to speculate because they get pushed back often. Verizon feels it is better to wait until the update is for sure getting pushed rather than speculate and be wrong all the time. Trust me, this company policy is actually good business.

We have a great phone and our updates have been very solid and way ahead of Samsung and way more reliable than Motorola.

Go get another manufacturer if you want, I know I don't. Just stay away from speculations and you won't be so frustrate

Date is not the issue for me. Confidence that the update is actually coming is my issue.

All they have to tell me is that it is/isn't coming and I shut up.
