Root ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 (file system/recovery utility) update 01/12/12 FIXED

Extended partition if your kernel supports it android sees that ext3 formated partition on your sd card and reads it just like it is part of the internal memory.

hmmm, i wonder if CWM is trying to look at link2sd's 2nd part, as the sd-ext? maybe that's why it keeps changing it to a ext3?

also maybe why it can't mount the part. the first time??

sounds like 3 different parties trying to use 2 things

btw is this a bad to remind everyone that i still have to reboot twice each time, i enter recovery? am i the only one that has this problem?

now i'm a little confused, because i just did a test run with link2sd part.s and after doing a couple of backups and restores it seems to working ok now??

maybe the error happened during the 1.0 -> 1.1. -> 0.9 phase???

so now i'm wondering, if that sd-ext thing works why do we even need link2sd?? because they probably don't work well together

and since i just formatted my sd card, might as well give it a go, unless someone has already tried and knows if the CWM sd-ext works just as good or better than link2sd?

back to the drawing board

1. is the first partition where regular stuff is stored or where the linktosd is stored

2. and when you use file browser on phone does it show the first or second

3. does link2sd let you choose which partition you want to use

1. regular stuff
2. hold on i'll check later
3. somehow link2sd knows to choose the 2nd one, even if they are identical partitions, but no it doesn't let you choose as far as i know (it just asks you to specify what kind of partition you are using fat vs ext2,3, etc..)

does anyone know why you would want to create a Swap partition? (just curious, though i'm not going to for now)

it sounds like you have done alot of things to the phone

you can alway use odin and start fresh and see if the problem is still there

i think you're right (was trying to avoid that), is there a reason why we can't odin back to a stock ee14? i don't recall seeing a thread talking about that

you can return to stock ee14

Sorry but imma just c&p a post by "murderousone", hope he doesn't mind

NOTE: THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA

1. Download and unzip the file.
2. Install the Samsung USB drivers
3. Put phone in Download Mode by holding Vol down, Camera Button, and Power button until the Yellow Downloading message appears
4. Plug phone into USB port
4. Open Odin, you should see a yellow box with a com number
5 Select SPHM820.ops file and the Pda, boot, & phone.tar in the appropriate Boxes
6 Click Start

If you have a really screwed up phone you can flash all three tar files and everything will back to EE14

i am actually working on that now, in testing phase, i will probally release it today

well it may be that link2sd works with etx files system, but maybe our prevail kernel does not support ext, but I am not sure

i did not create cwm i just made a version of it for this phone, so I am not a cwm expert, but it sounds like it tries to use the first fat partition it finds, when looking for files to flash, and backup and restore and such

I believe the prevail does support ex2 out of the box. I have it working on mine. I made a partition with cwm and Link2SD can read it and store my apps on it. When I plug in my phone to my pc I can only see the partition with my backups on it not the partition I made for my apps.

I found this by accident. I made a 500mb partition with cwm. The Shabby 1.1 didn't work so i odined back to stock, rooted it, and removed the bloat. I installed Link2SD and selected ex2 as my other partition. Link2SD seen it and started saving my apps on it.

When I made the partition with cwm I am about 80% sure I selected ex3, cause thats what the Shabby 1.1 was suppose to support. When I returned to stock and messed with Link2SD I had selected it look for a ex3 partition first. It said my phone didn't support it or there was no partition made. I then selected ex2 and it found the 500mb partition I made. Since my phone was Odined back to stock and I didn't do anything else to it that leads me to believe that it does ex2 out of the box.

cool, thanks for the info, I will play around with it when I get a chance

I just finished making some more odins for EE14

I used EASEUS 9.0.0 home edition to create a 3gig partition as fat32 and chose that w/link2sd (didn't think to use cwm) using ES file explorer all the apps I linked are in
/data/sdext2 ...What I'd like to know is there any benefit to using cwm and making a ext2 partition (other then it being way easier and faster) when I used EASEUS my sd card showed as a fat32-primary w/drive letter for a label I created the partition a fat32-primary w/o a label the computer sees the first partition only and appears I have only a 11.82 gb card as does the phone ...all seems to be ok w/all the apps I linked so is there a good enough reason for me delete that partition and do it with cwm as ext2 or should I leave well enough alone (the old "if it's not broke don't fix it")..I would like some seasoned advice on it...Thankz

from what i could gather from psp_noobs posts is that cwm does not work right if you have two fat partitions on sd, i did not test this myself

i think i figured some stuff out, link2sd needs either a fat32 or ext2 partition on your sd to work

CWM formats that partition into a ext3 which doesn't currently work with link2sd, when you do a factory wipe (which was causing my confusion)

if you don't do a factory wipe, CWM ignores your partition and doesn't back it up or mount it

----

i think i figured out where the double recovery screen occurs, after doing your odin (ee14 stock + cwm + shab) and then batching it to shab 0.9 i rebooted a couple of times and the double recovery is still there, it happens whenever you do a software reboot into recovery but not a hardware recovery (vol up) it works normal then

i don't think it has anything to do with how much stuff you've done to your phone

however now that i have odined back from scratch, i do have a new set of problems :( now when the phone starts up, it says google talk authentication failed and i can't download apps from the market because of [ERROR: "app" could not be downloaded due to an error] ???

anyone know about this?

odin again for luck??

ok so, a factory wipe seems to take care of the google talk - market download problem, but of course it also reset the link2sd partition to ext3 which doesn't work, so i had to tether back into the PC for a fresh new ext2 partition *starts foaming at mouth*

can someone either get the CWM to factory reset the partition to ext2 or make support for ext3 with link2sd?! *starts to cry*

i'm tired, crashn

what it sounds like is, when you go into advanced and partition sdcard it creates ext2, but if you factory reset it makes it into ext3 or maybe ext4
and our kernel does not support either ext3 or ext4, but link2sd does

so we need a kernel that supports ext3/ext4

and in the mean time if you want to use link2sd with the ext2, instead of doing factory reset, go into mounts and storage and format data and cache and then go into advanced and wipe dalvic

Maybe Shabby can make a new kernel that supports ext3/4

can someone either get the CWM to factory reset the partition to ext2

We dont want to do this, if we start changing the CWM code, that is a sure way to piss off the makers of CWM and then they will not support our phone at all in any of their software

The proper way foward is to wait for a new kernel, and use my work around in previos post, just be patient

Maybe Shabby can make a new kernel that supports ext3/4

that might fix it, that might even get cwm to make backups of link2sd's partition at the same time? worth a try. two birds with one stone

you have my vote shabby :)

just remember kids (using link2sd) that factory wipe will format the partition so be sure you back up first

and if anyone is interested i think the link2sd dude can be found here:

[App] Link2SD - xda-developers

if you need some technical help, good luck

that's weird, because i did a bunch of formats and factory wipes before i odined, and even if it did somehow keep old info, it would have been my info which was correct

and doesn't the odin process clear out any info anyway?? strange

/anyways a factory wipe seemed to fix it, but thanks anyway, i saw your post after i did it

odin doesnt touch sdcard, it writes images to a few of the partitions, but not all

i used to have es14 but i removed it and now have ee13. is ee14 better or should i just keep ee13? also what does it do and whats the difference.

ee14 update is a modem update and it will block your exploit which means youll have to reroot. it also addresses other issues but not sure what...

The ota update had a few things that seemed to help. First it had a update for the phone modem, seems to have given a better signal to most people, and some it increased the network speed.
Second it looks like there were some bluetooth issues fixed. dont know how much though as my bluetooth worked before and after just fine.
And finally it may have helped with battery life, though that is just speculation based on my results.

:UPDATE:
If you have taken the EE14 official update you need to remove /system/etc/intall-recovery.sh
If you do not remove this file the stock recovery gets flashed back when phone is rebooted

i have looked for this file its not in there but i have the update ohh well ill try it anyways

ok i tried it nothing messed up but the cwm partition sd card doesnt work it says i need cwm recovery first ?
